Euro Disaster Again
On our last Euro campaign it was a bad referreeing decision with Big Dunc's perfectly good goal being disallowed which was the turning point. How ironic that another bad decision ruling out the first penalty will probably be our downfall again.Stefan Wessels: Did pretty well and cannot be faulted for the goal. Looks a bargain for a free transfer. 7
Tony Hibbert: Not too bad a performance. Covered well when Everton were attacking in the first half. Still suffering from poor distribution. 6
Joseph Yobo: Had a fairly easy night because Metalist didn't have much attacking wise. Did pretty well. 6
Joleon Lescott: Everton's Man of the Match, which frankly isn't saying much. Great goal and looked solid at the back. 7
Leighton Baines: Did particulary well in the first half with several attacking charges. Looks a good purchase but struggled in the second half. 6
Phil Neville: Attempted to get forward whenever possible but never managed to control the midfield in the way we would have hoped. 6
Lee Carsley: Very average game. Will probably be more important in the away leg. 6 Leon Osman: Looked to be on form in the first half but but disappeared in the second. If only Arteta had been fit. 6
James McFadden: Deserved his start but as usual his form was up and down. A few good shots from outside the box, a few bad decisions giving the ball away. 6
Aiyegbeni Yakubu: Did Moyes seriously pay £11 million for this guy? Rubbish, lost the ball too often, couple of limp shots from outside the box. £11 million!!! Thats crazy. 5 Andy Johnson: I have to admit I thought he would miss that first penalty, when he put it away I was pleasantly surprised. Except of course the ref made him take it again and there was no chance that Andy "I've forgotten how to score" Johnson was going to find the net twice in a game. Bad second penalty. Sure he worked reasonably hard but never even looked like scoring. When we got another penalty I was already writing this report and hardly looked up because I knew Johnson was going to miss. Piss-poor, Andy. Missing two penalties on such an important night, I don't want to see him in an Everton shirt for awhile. 4
David Moyes: Sent out an attacking side and can claim poor refereeing and piss poor penalties cost us but the fact is its another Euro disaster and even I wont argue if people say he deserves the sack. 6
What a depressing loss. I mean draw. No wait its a loss. Feels like a fucking loss anyway. Really notlooking forward to the away leg.

If this is all so obvious to us, what are Moyes and Neville paid for? Our so experienced in Europe captain was a gutless coward. Moyes simply abdicated any responsibility. Absolutely unacceptable.
At least two of them won’t be playing in the second leg.
Treat it as a loss Dutch ... away goals count double !
Still it could be a good result as we know we have to score in the Ukraine. Come on you blue boys, come back soon Mikky
There was encroachment in the box on the first pen on both sides. Laws of the game order a retake. Spot on. After that, there may have been encroachment on the retake, but it would have been much harder to spot in real-time, and so is understandable that he missed it.
As for us missing the third... well, there’s no excuse really. We played well in the first half, and then in the second half we were poor, even against nine men.
We had chances to wrap this game up with the two penalties, and they weren’t taken. Had they gone in, the rest of the game, with its odd long balls and failure to make something decent with the final ball, wouldn’t have mattered. We made our own fate in this one.
In for a week and out 10 years
In for a week and out 10 years
Everton in Europe!
Ha Ha ha Ha fuckin’ HA!!!!!
A team that plays with that untried formation and has a midfield of Neville, Carsley and Osman is not goin anywhere. The lack of quality in the side was shocking. Hibbert and Osman are 1st division players and have no place in our team. Neville isnt a bad right back but Mcfadden can catch the 1st bus back to Scotland, who gives a fuck if hes got a new agent.
Tactically I thought we were a joke and the buck stops with the manager, i wont even start on the Yak!
Hibbert: 5 piss poor passing, he is gary neville in disguise, only not as good???? Lump it forward at evrey opportunity what a waste. I might take my boots down on Sunday, see if i can play full back!
Baines: 6 ok in the first, poor on the second
Yobo: 6 steady as, not a lot to do couple of good touches
Lescott: 7 same as Yobo except he scored
Neville: 4 Mr punt a lot what a waste, sorry pack your bags son it’s time to go home
Ossie: 5 where was he in the second half??
Carsley: 5 didn’t do much....
McFadden: 6 ran about had a couple of shots, poor distribution
Yak: 3 (Am being generous) he fell over lots
Johnson: 4 rubbish sorry.
This was a poor performance, but I bet the lot of you right now a pint that we are through to the next round come the end of the next tie....what say you...!!?
The reason we were so poor was that our midfield was piss poor. Neville, Carsley, Osam, McFadden.
We desperatly needed one or more of the following; Cahill, Arteta, Pienaar, Gravesen (dare I say VdM?). The midfield was simply unnaceptable at this level of football.
And whoever said Neville is a gutless coward - you’re dead right.
I can only say Yobo or Wessels played well tonight.
I hate the Hibbert-hating people who slag him off every week - I try and avoid this type of neagtive talk, and for no other than fairness I often defend him as I honestly think he tries his best every game - how can you possibly ever ask for more from a player. However tonight highlighted that he simply isn’t good enough to play in Europe.
I feel too depressed to continue.
After all the talk about ?we won?t let it happen again? what happens? It?s even worse! 1-1 in Europe against a team who would struggle in the English League 1 AND we had 2 penalties, AND they ended up down to 9 men ? hold on a minute.... what?s that noise? It?s the whole of English football laughing at us.... especially those in red shirts.
But what was worst was the shameful lack of commitment and planning. Not until Anichebe came on did it look like we had a player who cared ? no Phil Neville, clapping a lot doesn?t mean you care.
I see form the website that David Moyes is blaming the referee for disallowing the first Johnson penalty ? rubbish ? it was Everton?s ineptitude that lost us the game
If the players and coaching staff had any sense of honour they would donate this weeks (unearned) equally between the Madeleine McCann, Rhys Jones and Former Everton Players funds ? at least they cared about the club ? but I?m not holding my breath
Moyes initial attacking tactics looked encouraging (I assume Arteta was actually injured?!?) but as usual it looked like ’headless chickens’ time and despite hard graft from everyone, it was clear that we lacked class and flair in midfield, and eventually resorted to aimless punts (I don’t call them crosses!) into the box. Baines looked good going forward but left some big gaps in defence in the first half (thankfully not taken by the opposition). Yakubu looked sluggish (as I stated when we bought him) and what was AJ doing so deep in the second half! Faddy laboured with only the odd glimpse of his Scottish talent, Neville just looks so ordinary (as does Hibbo, but no change there) and Carsley just filled a space in the centre for no apparent reason. Sure, the re-taken penalty was unfortunate (the ref ridiculously sticking to the rule book, but he did warn the players beforehand!). AJ’s first penalty was a hope for the best blast, so I feared the keeper would read his style and clear lack of confidence and sadly it proved true. They scored a good equaliser - we just looked like we got stretched on the right again (shades of Villareal!) but then the final penalty (I though Vic’s earlier appeal looked more like one) was a chance to at least get the win, until AJ stepped up again! Is there anyone in the crowd who saw him step up and did’nt think "oh s**t!". It was a certainty to be saved and my only surprise was how high it went instead (a la Beckham!). Why didn’t anyone in the team or on the touchline stop a guy who is clearly lacking confidence (and decent service to be fair). Is this the start of the slippery slope Biffa started on?
In the end I hope AJ gets the time to heal and comes back stronger, but in the meantime we are left with the knowledge that unless we step up two or three gears, we ain’t going to reach the group stages yet again.
It’s wake-up time again, Moyes and Everton. We have a reasonable central (thank God we have Lescott as a striker!), a good reserve keeper, but without Cahill and Arteta we have a very non-creative midfield and as a result a woeful lack of quality ball to our twin strikers. More importantly, as has been mentioned, not a clue on tonight’s performance of what a decent attacking option is. Same old Everton - I just hope those neutrals watching it back home on Channel 5 watched the Spurs game instead to limit the embarrassment at work and on the radio tomorrow!
I am amazed by the people who come on here and praise the mans commercial prowess.
What can we expect on Oct 4th....god only knows but prepare for the worst, and do not watch it in the pub! I made that mistake in the Sports Bar on Haymarket against Dynamo...I will be in a cupboard with a portable black and white TV, fingers crossed till they bleed.
I am off to bed, god help us all tomorrow.
Seems like they were marking Baines closely all game and leaving Hibbert wide open as they know he is shit. If Yakubu wasn’t so lazy I would say he was our worst player but seeing Yakubu in ...errr... action, was something else.
MOM tonight? Only option is Wessels. Bargain freebie.
no plan b, even when every fucker in the ground could see carsley hibbert and neville were stinking the gaff out...
a good skipper would have stepped up on pen 3 and said to AJ, "i know you wanna put things right, but nows not the time lad"
instead he said nothing and just clapped like a clueless sea lion screaming lets go again once the penalty was missed...
garbage phill.... pure garbage!
If Jag was fit enough to be on the bench, then why didnt he start.
Cant Moyes see Neville consistenly giving the ball away when he plays midfield.
The only place he should occupy in the Everton team, is the right back berth, where Hibbert, for the last 2 years has been less than average.
If you are going to go 3 up front, you have to have the players in midfield who can pass a ball, and keep possesion.
Why play Hibbo, who is clearly lacking in confidence, when there is a better option to play there.
Neville is a better right back than Hibbo, and Jags is a better midfield player than Neville.
Can anyone explain ?
Hibbert: 5 piss poor passing, he is gary neville in disguise, only not as good???? Lump it forward at evrey opportunity what a waste. I might take my boots down on Sunday, see if i can play full back!
Baines: 6 ok in the first, poor on the second

If Wyness cannot do his job properly enough to ensure people get their tickets, how the hell are we supposed to trust him over the "deal of the century"?
If the players can barely muster a football brain between them, how are we to have faith that silverware awaits?
If the manager cannot or will not move on from tactics that belong in the stone age, how can we be confident he will take us to the "next level"?
All of this hurts. I have always had faith in David Moyes, and find his decency and integrity a breath of fresh air amid the stench of egotistical arseholes. He has done great things for us. But can he really take us any further? I just don’t know anymore and the sad thing is that I can’t imagine anyone I would want to do it more than I want him to do it. But best will in the world, my doubts keep growing.
Faith might move mountains. But does it win trophies?
the club has no vision and is self destructive
AJ must be feeling terrible now, but he hasn’t let us down with his work rate. If there’s anyone to bring back his confidence, it’s the fans.
The last thing we want is to spoil the whole season by turning our backs against the team.
Cone on you Blues.
neville ad carsley in midfield was always going to give us nothing going forwards, but what was even more shocking was that they didn’t give us anything defensively either. metalist breezed the midfield battle as carsley and neville had two of the worst, inept performances ive ever seen either put in. and then neville has the cheek to clap the fans at the end? im sorry, but he deserved the booing he got.
what annoys me and is starting to really get to me is moyes and his distain for substitutions. everyone at half time knew he had to change the midfield. he must have as well. but when does he finally decide to change it?? only after metalist get there goal. same on saturday with mcfadden (i know he was crap tonight but on sat he was coming off the game in midweek), he only brought him on after utd had scored, despite the crowd calling for it for a long time before that.
that’s before i even get started on yakubu. that lad’s got some cheek for putting in a performance like that. lazy. just because he wasnt getin the service he wanted he couldnt be bothered to do anything for the team. thats a disgrace, and it just makes what happend to aj even more unfair imo. he worked his socks off, always does, and now his confidence is through the floor. i do hope the fans dont get on his back, because hes done nothing wrong. neville should never have let him near the second peno.
yakubu’s got a lot to prove. anichebe should definately start in his place on sunday. no question.
One swallow don’t make a summer and we should be big enough to swallow this set back and be greatful it’s only HALFTIME! the Second half is where it’s at lads...it’s all to play for and I know the blue boys are gonna stand up and be counted. Humble pie all round for the soft naysayers then!
i may have had a moan about his decisions before, but i dont agree with any of that shite.
he may drop a huge bollock every now and again (like tonight) but the fact of the matter is, we cant do any better than him, so stop all that shite now.
as for the game why play 3 strikers and starve their service with such a dire midfield.? i dont know what hibbert was thinking with his positioning but someone should have told him we were still playing 4 at the back and his defensive duties were unaffected!
In all honesty with Yakubus total reluctance to contribute anything to team play then we can expect AJs goal drought to continue due to all the chasing he will be doing. i only hope that Yak returns at least 20 goals or otherwise hes going to have 40000 on his back immediately and will be gone by summer!!!
saying all the negative stuff though we need to remember we were without all 4 of what are going to be our most influential , skillful and attacking midfielders- pienaar cahill arteta and gravesen. throw jagielka in as well and we have a midfield that will compete and more than likely take apart the best in the uefa.
as for moyes i am a huge fan but last night his blind faith in the 3 obvious weak links was ridiculous. taking yak off was the easy choice as a blind man on a motorbike would have seen he was beyond useless but the key to this season , and the key to having a big squad, is making the brave change and seeing something us mere supporters cant and being bold with the changes. i know very little about the lad but Jutkiewicz would surely have been better to replace neville and chuck up front leaving yobo at the back rather than doing the sunday morning mundane option and sending the centre half forward and the little midfielder sweeping up!!! this debate could drag on and on but the simple fact is we cant help with team selection or changes during the game but what we can do is remain 100%behind the team and keep the faith. but one final point someone please tell neville we are not stupid and dont ever patronise us with a little clap after a performance like that!!!
He was beaten for the goal and looked clumsy when passing the ball, I thought he had an off night, Yobo had a better game than he had.
Why wasnt Hibbert removed then they had 9 players and Vidarsson or Justiewicz put on, I dont see the point of throwing a defender upfront when you still have a sub on the bench who is an attacker.
I’m off to dust down my boots and head off to the pitch....Still hope if he’s fucking playing
