How much further??
Watching the match last night with my wife and mum I commented after about 15 mins "Moyes doesn't do 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 or whatever formation we played, he is strictly a 4-5-1 man"... In the cold light of day I think im right. On the odd occasion we have mastered the 4-4-2 formation really well, others we look weak and over run in midfield. When he goes back to 4-5-1, however boring and dull, it seems to GRIND out resultsThis has all got me to thinking can Davie really take us tactically much further?? When it comes to Europe, he seems totally inept. Last nite he decided to throw the kitchen sink at them, Centre back and fullbacks getting forward at every chance. It didn't work and we looked shambolic when they counter-attacked. I read today that Moyes was suprised how good Metalist where, well I'm sorry Davey but from my seat mate you looked totally shell-shocked after they scored. I got sick of hearing "Chase it Faddy" or "Press him Phil" ? totally sick!
No width, no creation = no idea
He has spent £21M of the club's money on 2 strikers and offered them no service... is it me or does the Yak look totally disinterested????
I think Davey has brought a lot to the team. They are often well drilled, work hard and run all day BUT tactically I fear he has no idea especially in Cup ties. IMHO Joe Royle lost his way when he switched from Dogs of War to a more attacking style with Barmby, Kanchelskis and Speed. We went from being tough as hell to soft touches and sadly Joe couldnt get a happy medium, maybe he could have had more time but that's another story!
Maybe the same is true about Moyes, he has got us to where we are through hard graft, but at Prem and European levels you need more. Without a firing Arteta and maybe Gravesen me have no idea how to pass and create, that was totally evident last night to everyone in the crowd and watching around the world.
David's biggest test now comes a week on Thursday. Do we have the players to score? YES. Can we create the chances? HMMMM....
For what it's worth, I'm not a Moyes-basher or Moyes-hater, I just see him for what he is. A hard working coach who maybe hasn't enough techincal nous to take us to the next level. Prove me wrong Davey, I dare yer!!

It was also the formation Scotland used to beat Italy, with Faddy playing so well up front.
If it’s results we want then what is the harm? Moyes has become a victim of his own success. Our constant yo-yoing up and down the league has come every time he has attempted to play better football.
Absolutely mate, in all fairness we could have had Pele, Maradona and W.R. Dean in their prime up front on Thursday and it wouldn’t have made a jot of difference... as they say if you feed the Yak - he will score, likewise with Johnson, even McFadden , yet we create absolutely nothing from open play ... are we surprised with the midfield we put out; what about getting Anderson back from loan, what about giving Bjarni a look-in? If they are not good enough then why are they here ... surely something has to be better than Carsley and Neville !
