I think we're going places!
I feel its time I let everyone know just how pleased I am with Everton's recent progress. I've read all the letters about 'Moyes taking us as far as he can' and 'A couple of defeats and we'll be in the bottom half', but for me, I only have good things to say about Moyes and the team.We are now comfortably looking to be a part of the group just outside the big three in the league (I just won't put the Kopites in with them to make it the big four). We now are winning a hell of a lot more games than I've been used to in recent years and I genuinely approach most games with a realistic hope of winning them. We are progressing in Europe (albeit early doors) and with players coming back from injury we are starting to look like a very decent side.
We no longer need to worry that our best players are going to jump ship or that the club are going to 'cash in' on our obvious assets. The team looks well bonded and there seems to be a good spirit amongst the players. Our squad is growing by the season and not diminishing, we've the youngsters coming through who fingers crossed seem to have very bright futures and at last Moyes seems to have some selection headaches for the right reasons!
Yakubu has his critics, but for me he is going to be a quality addition. Lescott, Arteta, Cahill are all top class. Around them we are looking good also with the likes of Pienaar also starting to shine and Leighton Baines is also looking like a very good player. The average age of our squad is coming down all the time and Moyes is putting together a good mix of youth and experience.
Moyes has made mistakes, everybody does, but in general he's done and is continuing to do a lot more right than wrong! Every season that passes. He is making us stronger and we are now starting to flourish. The road ahead is a tough one, but I am very happy with where we are so far.
I realize that in three or four games time we may have lost a couple and the doom mungers will reappear, but not me, I'm absolutely made up with the blues right now. We are not the finished article and at times its been tough to watch. We also need to strengthen further in certain areas, but I'm sure this will happen given time. We all know the weak links, but they are getting fewer by the season and I'm hopefull that will continue over the next couple of years.
I know alot of people will disagree strongly with what I have to say and I know the sort of arguments that may appear: 'If we hadn't of scored 2 in the last minute on Saturday we'd of drawn against a poor side', 'Hibberts awful' etc.... but this is an ongoing project that I am certain is moving in the right direction and with a little more patience and understanding I genuinely think we are going places! Well done Moyes and the Boys, keep it up!

However, I agree Ian but I don’t expect many people who sit somewhere inbetween to reply to this... erm, except I have so what do I know.
May the best bitches win!
To Nick Entwisle:
Please don’t take this as a bitch slap???!!, but its very difficult to please everyone with any article. Either you agree or disagree so isn’t every article provocative? To me its just a bluenose enjoying the clubs current state of affairs!
Its simple... if Carsley doesn’t play in that holding role, we’re vunerable against anyone. He’s so incredibly disciplined, more so than Neville could ever be in CM... then the talent of Arteta, Cahill, Ossie & Pienaar can keep the ball and create.
Personally I’d like Lee Carsley to be captain. Making Neville captain is one of the few important decisions I feel Moyes has got wrong... he’s defo not the first name on most Evertonian’s team sheet.
Keep up the good footy Blue Boys, and bring on Nurnburg tomorrow!!!
Plus if you read the title of the article it’s we’re going places - not we’re there!
Top up your drink lad, it’s half empty.
But hey-ho, it wouldnt be the same watching Everton if they killed games off like that would it.
COYB!!
However, there are so many of us who have experienced false dawns in the past, so forgive us for still remaining cautious to a large extent. The next few weeks have the potential to make or break our season, or at least clarify what our current level is.
Firstly tomorrow night’s game v Nurnberg will show us if we have enough Euro-calibre to the team. I’ll accept a draw, but a win should be within our grasp, as they are no great shakes this year, it seems. The Chelsea game will be yet another test to see how close to the big boys we are - will we fail to bridge the gap (the case in recent Man Utd games - I still feel the pain of last season’s reversal). The Carling Cup tie against West Ham is for me the most important one of them all, as that’s one where only a win will do. I’m dying for a domestic cup run, even in this competition!
If we come through these three games with some positives, I’ll echo your optimism. If we don’t, then I fear another under-achieving season of mediocrity - which will hurt me even more, because I do think that with the likes of Cahill, Arteta, Lescott, AJ, Baines and Graveson, and the potential of Vaughan, Anichebe, Piennar etc. (even the Yak if we continues to notch up his performance game-on-game), we have quite a good team! Perhaps where I’ve got the best vibes at present is with the improving standard of our subs bench, especially when the last one or two absentees return to fitness. For the first time in many seasons, we’ll have subs on the bench who will be good enough, and keen enough, to want to prove they deserve to start the next game and who the fans will welcome seeing as well (I can only think of a couple of obvious exceptions who Moyes still persists with, but this is not the post to get negative). It’s that build up in the squad quality and the fact that we won’t necessarily be losing any of them to other teams in the medium-term that means we may indeed heading in the right direction, Ian. Fingers-crossed eh? COYB!
"Tony ’The Jihad’ Marsh" - I’m loving that!!No offense Tony, it’s all good hearted banter, with the blues passions run high because we ALL love em...for better or worse, for Kenright or a russian billionaire, for Moyes or another...til death do us part!!
Who predicts a gut wretching, hearty stopping last minute nerve shredder thursday?! How about for once, just once, an easy win, sit back and just nask as the lads run away with it......we can all dream, we have to, we are Evertonians!
Dave, just with you saying about the newer signings coming on board with the club ethics, togetherness etc.. Did you see at half time in the Larrissa game, Tommy Grav and Jagielka out on the field, it looked like they were having a ball, all smiles and luaghing.. Jumping on each others backs. I feel that a lot of the closeness throughout the team is due to a number of really strong personalities that we have here, Cahill and Stubbsy to name two. I love it I really do. The players seem to be enjoying their football. I even spotted Yakubu grinning from ear to ear last weekend, and that wasn’t directly after his goal.
With regards to the article. Spot on. We are getting better as a team, as a squad and as a force at home and abroad. I know it’s early to tell about the long term, but there’s nothing wrong with being positive, We’re all Evertonians, God knows we deserve it.

Generally the quality of the squad is improving and getting Cahill back is a big bonus. AJ signing a new contract should put to bed the rumour he’s going back to Cockneyland and the Yak looks like a good prospect (jury still out though !!) .This squad does look like the best for many years.
My question is, what would it take for EFC to have a good season - silverware, top 4 finish, top half finish or what ??
Think I’ll go and have a lie down and get some shuteye until I get the knock on the door to start the travelling to the Fatherland!! Confident we can get a result, bu tmaking it easy for ourselves? (not while I still have some dark hairs to make grey)!..See you all in Nuremberg, and those he ain’t got tickets, count to ten and smile thru gtitted teeth if you got to, but don’t get involved..enjoy thee craic!!
Why don?t you both open a club for whinging, whining kopite loving twats (sorry, thats lfc) why don?t you just lighten up, just for once..your both probably suffering from SAD or are you just both that sad that you can?t see anything right at all with your???? club at the moment?
I?m goin back ta sleep now!!
I’m sure there’ll be some right ol’ miseries on to change the tone but away from the t’internet they’re only a tiny minority in reality.
coyb!!!!
Oh I know you’re probably one of those miseries I was alluding to...
We play best when we pass the ball on the deck which we are doing slightly more of late.
Real progress will however be when we pick up points against the top six. Probably not many fans realise that so far this season, all of our six wins have been against six of the bottom seven teams, so we have not done the business against the better sides.
Hopefully we can start with at least a point on Sunday against Chelsea. If we go at them and rough up their defence we could even get all three. And, despite the frustations, I still get excited watching the blue boys.
All I ask is why you use it and cant you think of anything else to say beside that one line?
good post lad I knock off work in a minute and you’ve set me up for the day
Gavin
you ask too much mate.
We are moving in the right direction, playing a good mixed game and the top teams show us respect now...
WE’RE ALRIGHT!!! WE’RE ALRIGHT!!!!!
they never did win that election did they.
Almost a full lot of positive responses!
How refreshing to see. Now lets bag the points in Germany tonight and enjoy!
And if we don’t bag the points tonight.....oh well, the big picture is still looking good!
Top article, lets have more from the perspective of the glass being half full, after all, its good to be happy! COYB!
I went to Carrow road in 1987 to witness Van den Hauwe score and seal our second league tilte in three seasons but i am sadly aware that i will not have that privilege again in my lifetime. Any supporters out there who think we are going to be premier league champions any time soon is sadly lacking.
I will admit we have a group of good players who on their day will give anyone a run for their money and there is an outside chance of bringing a trophy back home for the first time since a Conservative Government, but come May i will not be at all surprised if the Goodison trophy cabinet is once more vacant.
You will pardon my pessimism but Ive had twenty years of disappointment now and the Fa Cup win barely papers over the cracks.
its funny how micheal doesnt respond to well written positive articles eh?
As for the ’easily pleased’ comments...maybe so, but I’m genuinely happy at the mo so why shouldn’t we enjoy it, easily pleased or not?
Anyway, a much more positive response to this article than I expected. Its nice to see the majority of my fellow blues are feeling good about things aswell. And should things go wrong this evening and then we lose against a very strong Chelsea side at the weekend, lets not flip over to the dark side! Its a long season ahead and I’m hopefull that good times may be not too far around the corner!

Great article. Early days in know, and it might all come crushing down on our heads, but I prefer to be positive than negative.
And with all due respect to Luton, they have a great bunch of players and are a lovely club, that tie really should have been put to bed long before timothy came to our rescue.
And even in the last fixture, we should have been out of sight long before the equalizer, and it was only lee carsleys annual blockbuster that got us out of jail.
I dont want to berate or question individuals or players, but sometimes a little piece of common sense is needed.
we all have two eyes and a brain so unless anybody has been watching a different team to me in the last few weeks its been painfully obvious.
I have have had the good fortune to have been witness to some of the greatest teams this club has even assembled but from what i have seen of late does not exactly quicken the pulse.
correct me if im wrong, but the motto for this club reads "nothing but the best is good enough"
Its been a damn while since i have seen anywhere near the best and its simply not good enough.
Discussion Closed.
After that it was all upwards for us for the rest of 80?s
We also need an Adrian Heath, and IMHO it?s in the form of TIm Cahill
More positivity please!! I can?t stand these moaning gets, both on this site AND in the ground, they get on my bloody nerves!! Sometimes wonder why they actually bother. The truth is they are only happy when they?re moaning!! Sad individuals!! Yes, that?s you Marsh, Mr. Glass Half Empty!!
We are a solid side, I?d just like to see Lescott sign a new deal and then we have a squad for the top 4. If Man City can do it, so can we, no prob. Tonight Lescott first goal scorer 22-1, Everton to win 3-1 20-1, The Yak 80-1 for a hat-trick..... ok I?m getting carried away now............... COYB
Oh yeah, good article too!
kermit is a tosspot tosspot tosspot
I mean, all this pretty pass and go dainty one touch football and goalscoring exploits, makes their anti Moyes and his ?hoofball? agenda look redundant.
Less football please and more defeats. Please consider the effect its having on our large constituency of moaners.
