Don't bite the hand that feeds you
As Jose Mourinho found out recently and the fat Spanish waiter is about to find out, you never bite the hand that feeds you.Today?s football manager particularly the foreign ones, possess a form of untouchable arrogance and when the rug is pulled from under their feet there are very few if any football fans that feel sorry for them. Mourinho did have the Chairman dictating who he bought and played so I do have a degree of sympathy with him, however Benitez with his arrogance and branding of Everton as a small club will receive no sympathy from a Bluenose. His comments after the recent derby still stick in my throat.
Mr Hicks owner of baseballs worst ever team the Texas Rangers who have the worst record in baseball for the last 7 years has achieved his success as being a ruthless man. Being a Texan he shoots from the hip and doesn?t suffer fools gladly. You remember JR Ewing he didn?t care who crossed his path, Rafa is now like Cliff Barnes from the old Dallas show, with JR Hicks ready any moment to lasso him in and feed him to the coyotes.
We are lucky to have an owner like Bill Kenwright ? he may not be a businessman he may not have billions in the bank, he may annoy you, but he is an Evertonian before anything else. He has always shown great loyalty to his manager, he was left with no choice with Walter Smith to get rid of him but with Moyes he has shown great faith through all the adversity.
Remember Everton were a very sick patient when Dr Moyes began the long painstaking treatment, serious illness takes years to cure and Moyes has gone about his business year in and year out strengthening the team each season, an addition here an addition there and this season with a little more cash about astute purchases of the likes of Yakubu who after a slow start is looking the 11 million pound man now. This coupled with the blooding of youngsters like Anichebe and Vaughan and the always ever willing Osman improving all the time. Arteta, Neville, Pienaar, Cahill, Baines, Lescott, Yobo, Johnson, McFadden all Moyes acquisitions have strengthened the squad in various areas of the pitch. The squad now is one of the best squads in the premiership and if we stay injury free with one or two additions we are going to be serious challengers to the big four this season.
Turning a football team round overnight is not an easy thing, Kendall did it over a few years in the 80?s when the huge amounts of money and Sky TV revenue were not about, to create a massive gulf between the rich and not so rich. Look at Newcastle lack of managerial stability, throwing silly wages at average players, not building a strong defensive foundation and they continue to flounder. Moyes has built the team from the back, he has five forwards at his disposal and Cahill the best in the business at his position. Three or four more additions a right back, midfield playmaker, wide left player and a centre half, all these players not necessarily starting 11 players, will give the squad the type of depth needed as still one or two injuries in key areas leave us a bit threadbare.

Never mind Everton being a sick patient we needed a triple heart bypass and an endoscopy when Moyes come after the dark days of Walter Smith. Too many seasons of curing illnes with two paracetemol and a dose of night nurse, we are going places now with the right cure GOOD PLAYERS.
Things on the pitch have gone incredibly well since the derby fiasco, and fair play to the team for producing such fine results and, with some regularity, some beautiful football. Nuremberg away and Chelsea away were the only two really tough challenges in this period, and we got very good results from both trips, so it cannot be said that we’ve only been performing against the mickey mouse clubs.
Pienaar must be secured and I think he will be; injuries permitting, a bit more midfield cover, that mystical, allusive creative holding player and we are indeed set for a storm on the top four over the next few seasons. COYB
1) An Evertonian
2) Put money into the club
3) Had the foresight and judgement to take a risk on a young David Moyes
4) Kept faith while people were calling for Moyes?s head during the season after we finished 4th
5) Given much of the TV money to Moyes to spend
That gets respect in my book
I much prefer a down to earth manager like Moyes who is creating a team with only a small percentage of the cash the fat Spaniard has, instilling in them as we see with Yakubu a work ethic. There is no room at the club for big heads like Rooney quickly become, the team spirit seems good as the competition for places fierce creating better performances. I dont with his extra players Davey keeps faith in the league games with the in form players.
I thought McFadden made a bit of a difference when he came on as sub against Chelsea but he couldnt make the bench on Saturday, which shows the depth Moyes now has if they can stay injury free.
I hope despite the larger squad Davey keeps faith with the in form ones in the league games.
The redsh at this end of the East Lancs got a very rapid Business Studies course when they lost the keys to their own ground, mortgaged by some absent landlord owners - in the USA as I recall.
And I note that Beneath Contempt is now saying that time zones lead to misunderstandings between him and the owners somewhere in that fine country. This means that the Texan probably added a few juicy terms in Spanish when, wiping the sleep out of his eyes, he told his hireling - ’get off your fat arse, get the people you bought with my 100 million dollars in August to play, and forget the 6 million quid (10 million Euros) payout you’re trying to scam by getting me to sack you, amigo.’
It occurred to me that Hicks and Gillett may have been warned about international scams. You know the kind of thing. You get an e-mail or other message from abroad making wild promises of fantastic returns (results?) beyond your wildest dreams if you just stump up a few bob in advance.
Perhaps they were suspicious of Mr Benitez’s request for more cash, especially as they have not had much of a return on what they’ve stumped up so far.
Carl this is Texas Rangers record since 2000, there are 4 teams in their division
Year W L Pct Placing
2000 71-91 .438 4th
2001 73-89 .451 4th
2002 72-90 .444 4th
2003 71-91 .438 4th
2004 89-73 .549 3rd
2005 79-83 .488 3rd
2006 80-82 .494 3rd
2007 75-87 .463 4th
If someone is worse than that they are shite.
US press reporting Benitez spent US$103m of Hicks/Gillett money with nothing in return for it yet.
They would be better of opening a savings account at the post office.
Beneitez: But JR I can’t possibly raise that kind of Collateral!
Benitez is just a ranch hand in charge of the cattle, ie like Ray Krebbs.
The poison dwarf Lucy Rick Parry Ewing is pulling Cliff Barnes Benitez strings. Strike oil or your waiting on tables in Benidorm old son.
Give me another 100m bucks JR says Cliff so I can buy 10 more oil wells which with a rotation policy will eventually strike oil.
I want Premier Oil says JR, not fucking Cup oil, produce it or your cattle feed.
Surely UEFA can?t give an ?Haven?t killed an Italian for 22 Years? award, can they?
Personally, I think the title Blue Nose should go to Sir Alex. Blue onits own will do me nicely, thanks.
President Hicks here, yall can call me J R.
Let me set the record straight the purchase of the Liverpool Reds franchise was a god dam mistake.
Head coach Benny Tez has fooled George and I into parting with quite a few bucks for some low life ball players. I cant even pronounce some of them mothers.
I was told soccer is like NFL yall can have lot of substitoots. So i let Beni buy up half of the Spanish league.
George and I have set up a meeting with Beni Tez and Rick on Dec 15th, we have hired the upstairs of the McDonalds in Paradise St as I aint eatin in no Tapas place as last time I ate there the waiter looked like Beni.
If we fire Beni then we got Head Coach Chuck Siarkaywicz, who is coach of my grandsons little league soccer team lined up. Coach Chuck has won the Houston under 10 league for 3 years running now, and has indentified 3 Los Angeles Galaxy players to trade for.
We was gonna buy you guys but Toffees what kind a name is that, no way I could call my ball club that name. Everton Wildcats or Everton Mustangs yeah but named after candy bars no way
They sure are, even if I don’t agree with their choice and think they made a mistake. Kenwright’s biggest mistake is appointing Wyness but I’m convinced it was a genuine error and sadly I think he still can’t see it.
I grant you he has stuck by Moyes (who wouldnt of)
Whatever happens with the sale, if it happens it will be down to the manager? He has the final say. - directed at David Moyes as Bill Kenwright makes him solely responsible for selling Wayne Rooney. Nice try, Bill, but your spin is worn out
A classic piece of Kenwright move the blame somewhere else, Kings Dock, Fortress Fund there are loads of examples from his tenure. He is like a first world war general, missing when the bullets starts flying.
Its great we are playing well and like all Blues I am so happy to see us play genuinely progressive football and win in style. But lets not pretend we are a picture of unity at the moment. If Kenwright had said five years ago, that our only choice was to go to Kirkby, be on a retail park, have a stadium named after a supermarket, would we have thought this man was a successful chairman?
Why doe’s he seemingly allow some imposter like Wyness to have full control over this impending disaster?
James - This thread is about how lucky we are to have Kenwright, the author claims he is no businessman, does not have much money, and annoys us (his words not mine). His only attributes according to the author are that he is a blue and has stuck with Moyes. Therefore it would seem appropriate for people to challenge that view?
He did however appoint Wyness a cheeky fat twat who takes 420,000 yet makes a loss, and slags the miinister for sport for daring to claim footballers are paid too much. He is two faced git who guess what supported wage restraint in Scotland for footballers.
Who knows when Kenwright will get out, maybe when he can recoup his investment many times over if we go to Knowsley. Ooh sorry a nasty thought about cuddly Blue Bill. What i dislike most about him is the way he hides over every difficult issue.
Need I say more?
Let me know if I?m being too cynical here but the difference under Kenwright is that on the first point he?s had the likes of the Rooney and Sky TV windfalls to bail him out; on the second the decade that has passed between the Aintree proposal and Kirkby Project has allowed fans to believe that moving to Tesco?s car park is our only chance to survive.
Granted we are not as big as those organisations and by my calculation that puts Wyness on 8k a week which I am not sure he merits.
I am not a fan of Wyness I lost my season ticket on the front row of the main stand which I had many years near the halfway line and got shoved out by the corner flag due to corporates getting my seat ( I now sit somewhere else and can see my seat and the corporates returning to it 10 mins into the 2nd half) and I did tell him where to go at that time along with his number 2 a gentleman called Harvey Smith. I do not like the way the man goes about his business and I have serious reservations about Kirkby, the parking the traffic jams, the location etc etc just like many of us do, but as the majority that voted have sent us there I accept the democratic process.
However all I was saying that everyone was having a laugh impersonating Texans and having a go at Rafa, and were made up with the result so we could do without any mention of Kirkby on this thread and save it for another one, no other reason, I dont disagree with your comments about Kenwright at all and I did hear him again on the radio phone in on the way home from the match jumping on the bandwagon also.
Point taken touche. Like all Blues I have a dubious optimism that makes me thing we are special, different and unique. I am simply very concerned that the move we are embarking upon will destroy our identity. I simply want the club to live by its motto and I am not sure Kenwright plays it straight with the fans and he trades on his Blue roots too heavily. He is an actor by trade
To the very extreme yes but still within Liverpool City boundaries
However the hamperman presided over some bad times at the club, the Mike Walker era the sale of the Dunc behind Smiths back.
Leahy doesnt become Chief Executive of one of Britains biggest companies by being a thicko he knows what he is doing and it is well documented how ruthless Tesco are. He is pulling BK’s strings on this move assisted by Wyness. BK is happy for the businessmen to get on with matters whilst he produces theatre productions, turns up at Goodison on a Saturday shakes the hands of every cleaner, ex player and dogsbody he comes across inside the inner corridors of Goodison.
My appreciation for Kenwright was purely for sticking by the manager and I avoided any reference to Kings Dock, Fortress and Kirkby.
Wyness like him or not is slowly turning the club around and he deserves his money. HAsnt every one noticed we have stopped selling our best players. I am firmly of the opinion that nothing could have stopped Rooney from going once he changed agents.
We are on our way to better things I know we are
COYB
I agree with those who question Bill's business acumen, I agree with those who want/demand more investment. However, I temper all that with the realisim that we are and have always been outside the 'attractive club' label. It is what makes us unique.
I love us being the underdog and upsetting the applecart, it?s been a long time since we were innovators in football, I firmly believe that standing firm against the influx of speculative investment gives us that uniqueness and I for one welcome the move to the ?Tesco? arena or whatever, because we will get it at a cut down price and with reduced risk!
Need a lie down now.....
