?A little patience... yeeeaah!?
I don?t mind fans speculating on who we may sign or sell during the summer, especially when a major tournament is on. It?s all part of being a fan & the reason why Pro Evo, Fifa, Champ Manager etc etc, all sell so well as they do.We all know the tabloids, gossip columns & rumour mills all fuel this speculation & as I say it's all a bit of fun and decent pub/work banter, but in a day when every time a manager or club even enquires about a player it is reported on one of the said outlets above, we should take all these reports with a pinch of salt and not get too excited when a top/big name player is linked or too disappointed when deals 'fall through' as there probably wasn?t a deal there to begin with.
My point is that reading the posts & columns, on this site particularly, there seems so much concern when a player is even mentioned!! To quote the legendary Axl Rose, we need a little patience.
As we know we don?t have the buying power or general clout in the transfer market as say Man Utd, Arsenal or any of the CL clubs and we are not on a par (financially) with Spurs, Newcastle, Pompey or City but we are an exciting proposition for a player. We are viewed as a club on the up with a good manager at the helm; with what little money we have, it is prudent for DM to take his time assessing any targets he may have ? both in terms of on-the-field ability & off-the-field personality ? as we all know how much emphasis Moyes puts on the team spirit and togetherness of his squad. It enables him to get more out of them.
So chill your boots lads & lasses, you can only judge someone by their own track record and what they have done in the past & I would back Moyes's record against most in European football in his time here.

Not very many Premier League clubs have actually made any signings yet, so it?s probably a bit too earley to hit the panic button just yet. Even so, it would be good if we could make some signings before the big scramble for signatures on deadline day!!!
It is interesting to read the speculation regarding Everton transfer targets and fan comments about them. Will they be good enough? Can we afford it?
None of us have any idea about how much can be spent this summer, if the sale of Bellefield will have any implications on that budget, who Moyes actually wants, why Moyes has not signed a new contract as yet.
There are either unresolved issues within the club or they are playing the cards close to the chest in order to quietly achieve their targets. I would suspect the latter but who really knows anything?

John, good to have another sane mind here when others are panicking let fretting house wives. i just posted something in the mailbag in the same vein. it is ridiculous the overblown worrying going on with people on this site. I don?t see massive transfer movement anywhere at the moment, yet we are "slow off the mark", "leaving it late again" and so forth........ apparently.
It's a marathon not a sprint, and Moyes usually doesn?t disappoint. If you just want signings early on for signings sake you're a tool. And as bad as those Newcastle fans I always heard getting slammed as they are won over by a trophy purchase every year. Grow up and stop fretting you?d think we were in a creche.
ps: I?m not taking a shot at those who run TW who don?t tend to fuel what is ridiculous hyperbole over non-events in rags and rumours from attention seekers.

Having said that..... I am a bit worried we are heavily linked with the 5ft 7" Portugese midfielder though. We need more height in the middle. I think that was the reason that Baines did not play so much last season (because we needed height at set pieces). But I have faith in Moyes to put it right this summer.

I decided last year that the speculation / rumour mill is a complete waste of time......a combination of lazy journalists, gossip, rumour and the internet making all of this stuff by-pass any editorial scrutiny alot of the time. I’m giving it a miss this year as it is clearly a complete crock of shit most of the time. It’s not confined to footy either. Some idiot put an album review on Amazon recently (3 out of 5 stars) while openly admitting that he hadn’t heard it and it hadn’t yet been released!

The reason for not signing anyone is quite straight forward. The selling club want to make as much money as they can on the player. They realise that Man City / Chelsea / Spurs and a couple of others have a huge transfer budget and these are usually the clubs that buy first because they don’t worry about paying above the market value. Then as the transfer window develops valuations tend to be more realistic and the majority of clubs begin purchasing players. However we are far more prudent as a club and will stick to our valuation for players. This means we have to wait for any clubs who are likely to outbid us to finish their transfer business before clubs will drop their asking price to meet our valuation.

I’m amazed that we’re beating the likes of Man Utd, Barca and AC Milan to the signings of Moutinho and Veloso. I’m confident we’ll get them for the paltry sum of £30 million. It says so in the papers, and they wouldn’t just make it up, would they?
More worried about Moyes not signing his new contract to be honest. Could it be that he’s been promised the funds he wants this summer but we haven’t yet aquired them? Hope so!

In view of the rejection of the planning application for Bellfield all this talk of transfers is just twaddle. Everton will need all the cash to finance the move to a second rate stadium tacked on to the side of a supermarket in Kirkby. Sorry to bring this old chestnut up again.

It’s never any different in the close season, we will be linked with pretty much everybody. However to echo a few of the early posts Moyes will take his time and try and secure the best players at the right prices for Everton. Arteta,Cahill and Lescott all for under £10m shows his capabilities in that area. I’m sure there will be a ceative loan deal that will also come to fruition. We have a good squad that needs tweaking, not overhauling. Let’s all wait and see and keep our faith in Davey’s judgement.

As regards saving wages there is nothing to stop us getting contracts signed now to be effective later (say mid July).
My major concern (apart from the obvious one of DM not signing his contract nor getting a numer 2 in)is that we always have a better season when we have a good preseason with the whole squad and while it is ok to squeeze one or two late ones in like Yak last year with the number of new signings we need we really have to start early.
We need Fernandes,Carsley,McFadden,Wessells replacements and some squad cover.
That will take time so I cant imagine we’ll be buying 4 or 5 players all at once in mid July.

On transfers in the summer we along with Spurs Newcastle Villa and maybe City and Pompey are second choices, all the top players will go to the top 4 who have a bigger pot and more chance of winning things, IE Aaron Ramsey, therefore if you are a good but not great player and you have a choice to come to us or say Newcastle what do you say to yourself, well Everton are a top 8 club with an outside chance of winning something but have offered £40,000 a week Newcastle massive under achievers but still outside chance of winning something £60,000 a week, doesn’t take a rocket scientist does it. Yes we can now offer European football, which is a good bargaining tool, but in my opinion most players are money orientated and can live without Eufa. So until we get some serious investment, which isn’t as easy as some supporters think it is, we will have to settle for top 10 finishers with the odd run in a cup. I go to the match because I love football, only 4 teams can win things in a season so to win something is a major achievement. Anyhow lets gets DM signed up before anybody else

The transfer window doesnt officially open until July 1st. Any deals that are done and announced are still not technically official as their paperwork hasnt been sent through so none of our competitors have signed anyone!!!
I’ll believe the misinformed transfer rumours the day that we have a Government that votes to detain without charge for more than a month. There, now that’s settled the summer speculation and we can all go on holiday and wait to see the new signings unveiled for the friendlies.......

In any negotiation - if the club says "we have ’x’ to spend" the club is automatically put into a poor position since the opponent in the negotiation knows exactly what you’re prepared to spend.
Hence the club has done the right thing keeping figures close to "Bully’s" huge chest. It keeps prices down - in an already inflated marketplace.
Also re: Patience, since the best contracts for the club invariably involve some sweetneers and contract clause advantage taking (al la Pienaar £2.05m)... its all about PATIENCE as the club’s lawyers and advisors scope the best deals in Moyes’ target list.

Yes, it would be great to have a wish list of the best of these, drooling at the mouth to come to EFC. The likelyhood is we’ll have about 20million or so at best, to spend.
If that’s so, then Moyesie will have to spend every penny wisely. If we can get two really good players (one midfielder and one forward) plus a couple of decent squad players, then, I think that will be it.
I hope he can also find one or two young uns who might just make it.

It worries me that nothing has ben done yet especially in midfield where we should have had a replcement for Cars lined up especially with A vdM and Gravo slinking off and seemingly nothing settled with Fernandes.
I have a mate here at work in Lincoln who is a Gooner - they have lost Flamini,possibly Hleib and it looks as though Adebayor wants to go - so it’s not just Evertonians who are starting to panic !!!

If we can make just one big early class signing it might just sway a lot of other players to come and join us, with the luxury of Europe a big reason to come here and them knowing that we mean business next season! But I am pleased that we are looking at, and investing a lot of money in all the younger star players that are available, if we can unearth a couple of class first teamers out of them it will be worth the while!

Let’s be honest guys, if we had a fully fit squad last season we probably wouldn’t have stuttered over the finish line. We were without so many of our ’midget gems’ after January and it quite clearly took a toll on our football. Getting Arteta, Cahill, Vaughan, Pienaar + Osman fit for the full season would make us a formidable side. Not saying these lads are the only ones to do it for us but certainly all bring something to the pitch that enhances our team. For me the biggest replacement required is Cars but maybe pushing Yobo up to that defensive midfield role would be a good idea, he seems a bit more composed on the ball than Lescott or Jags and has the pace and energy to cover the pitch, dare I say, better than Carsley. A couple more players are definitely needed but think the biggest ’signings’ we will get next season are all the boys coming back from niggling injuries.
Rory agree with your sentiment but what happens if we get a shedload of injuries again and we did use McFadden, Gravesen, Fernandes and Carsley for at least 60 games between them.

Kevin Thomson of Rangers doesnt really set the pulses racing either and to be honest when it comes to Everton Football Club doing summer dealings I am always worried and nervous until they players have signed on the dotted line. How many times in the past have we been in a transfer window where every man and his dog has known we either needed a striker/wide midfielder ect ect: and then the window has closed without one being brought in?
Moyes has got a lot of his transfers spot on I don't think anyone could ever doubt that but there are some examples where his stuttering has been a pain in the arse like in the summer of 2005 when we had qualified for the Champoins League and had the best part of the Rooney money and he spent it on defenders and a injury-prone Simon Davies. I am not at a state of panic yet but if it goes on and we still haven't signed anyone by the first week of July then it comes a bit higher the level of frustration..
Perhaps the transfer window will develop late again like last year but that's a very risky plan to take up.
Arshavin is just what we need, a playmaker of quality who will thrive in the Premier League, stop twatting about and get him in, before somebody else does!!

But what does concern me is that Moyes should've had his targets already as he does prefer to have his squad gelled together for the big kick off.
Another thing that worries me is with the Euros on surely someone like Arshavin that Moyes likes and has watched more than once ? why on earth have we not tried to sign him already before there is a chance of his valuation increasing! And another thing that is still worrying me is that Moyes has not signed his contract, which still means no No 2, which also indicates the board still have not satisfied him yet..

I cant understand why people are saying we are slow off the mark again this summer? How many other clubs have made a signing worth talking about at the moment? Spurs maybe with buying Luca Modric. Other than that no-one else has bought as it is quite obvious that clubs are waiting for the Euro’s to finish. Have faith in Moyes, he may have made a couple of bad signings in the past, but his good signings far outway the bad and i believe he will deliver again.

I would not class Peanut as a new transfer. I wouldn’t class Manny as a new transfer (if that happens). Because we had the use of these players last year. We have had Cars, Tommy, Wessels, Stubbs & possibly/hopefully Shandy VD Meyder all leave the club without them being replaced. We need to build our squad depth as well as the quality. This summer is a very important summer in terms of the numbers and quality that we sign. I have no doubt that DM is looking at all the right players, but signing them - that’s another story! That is where the EFC board get involved......

Why get annoyed with transfers at the moment?? It's all speculation... NOBODY has started buying players yet, give it a few months then start getting annoyed. Until then chill out and enjoy the Euros!!
For those who think we are not slow off the mark; Sidwell going to Villa. Jo going to City. Riise going to Roma. It’s not a case that I thought we should have bought any of these players but, clubs are talking to players and lining them up for transfer. We haven’t been talking to anyone.... yet. Should we already have been talking to Arshavin? Zenit say they want him gone before TOMORROW. Should we have sorted it before the Euro’s?

I still fondly remember Houllier’s dramatic early swoops after the 2002 World Cup. Who can forget such legendary signings as Diao, Diouf and the never to be forgotten Bruno Cheyrou. Let’s all breath in, stop trying to link everything back to the Kirby stadium (BORING!!!) and wait to see what Moyes decides to do.
Once again pre season is here and everybody has an opinion of who we should and shouldn’t buy.Alls that i would say is trust Moyes.Hes got it right before and he’ll do it again.Last season everyone moaned about Jagielka coming but fuck me what a player hes been.Also when we say other teams have more dough then if a player is coming to you just for money then we don’t want him.I f hes coming to play for everton f.c and wants to play in a good team then thats what we want.We don’t just have to go out and buy everyone just because they’re available.Of course we want to see quality but also we have to be sensible with what we spend.Just look at the other shite and see where the monies got them.Come on Blue boys.

If we sign 6 players at the end of May (in our dreams) say at an average of £25k a week I make that a wage bill of approximately £1.2 million before we are in August and not really kicked a ball in competetive action. Thats a lot of money for our club, and must have some bearing on the timing of new signings.
It just worries me that pre-season approaches and we all know the frustrations of awaiting news from Goodison as the clock ticks to Deadline Day!!
