Johnson heading to the JJB
Despite vigorous protestations by David Moyes that he isn't for sale, Andy Johnson looks to be on the verge of joining Wigan Athletic for £9.5m. Well-founded rumour has it that he spent today (Monday) in talks with Wigan representatives — although the Official Site has him among the traveling party that flew to Switzerland this afternoon — and will sign for the Latics tomorrow morning.
If true, it might be the clearest indication yet that another strong rumour, namely that Everton have very little money to throw around this summer despite needing about half a dozen players, also holds water.

Aimar hoping for English interest
Argentine midfielder Pablo Aimar is in no rush to complete his anticipated move to Benfica as he is hoping that an English team will express interest in him.
The 28 year-old has apparently been linked with Everton and Newcastle but only has offers from Portugal and Greece.
"I know that there are offers from Panathinaikos and Benfica exist, although we still expect a call from an English team," Aimar's representative, Gustavo Mascardi, told Equipo.
The Daily Mail say that he would cost around £7m.

Suchy's agent claims talks are underway
The agent of Czech "prodigy" Marek Suchy claims that Glasgow Rangers and Everton have both made inquiries about his client and that "there have been some opening negotiations going on."
The 20 year-old central defender plays for Slavia Prague and after two seasons with the Czech champions is keen to try a new challenge elsewhere.
The report says that Everton sent scouts to the Czech Republic to watch Suchy, a key member of the Czech Republic side that lost to Argentina in the final of last year's Fifa Under-20 World Cup, last winter.
It goes on to say that he can also play in midfield and is valued at around £2.5 million.

Call for an EGM?
There is talk of some Everton Shareholders calling for an Emergency General Meeting of the club, to address the disparities between promises and reality regarding Destination Kirkby. The call is being led by Tony Bennett and Mark Grayson who are distributing an EGM petition to shareholdres.
Other concerns include uncertainty flying around regarding any transfer kitty for David Moyes, possible bids for Andy Johnson, DM's claim that he is not for sale, David Moyes getting frustrated at a lack of funds, transfer money being linked to Destination Kirkby... DK being called in, etc, etc...

Impromptu Board meeting causes a stir
An impromptu Board meeting, planned on Wednesday, took place at 5:30pm at Goodison Park this evening, giving rise to much speculation on Everton-related websites, with everything from a Saudi investor, another approach from the Britain's richest man, Lakshmi Mittal (whose family own a 20% stake in QPR), Moyes spitting the dummy over plans to sell Andy Johnson, and the calling in of the Destination Kirkby project being put forth as reasons for the sudden meeting of minds.
Given the apparent announcement that a decision has been delayed on Destination Kirkby, it's most likely to be the latter that was up for discussion. Our source believes that the Board know that the project will be called in for public inquiry — that would likely end Phillip Green's financial interest in the club — and are preparing their next move.

Johnson continues to stress that he is happy at Goodison and is not looking to move — rumour has it that he admitted privately that if he has to leave then West Ham would be his preferred destination — but if the bid from Sunderland is genuine, Everton may find it hard to turn down.

Villa join 'chase' for Johnson
According to The Sun, Aston Villa have joined Wigan, West Ham and Middlesbrough in the race to sign £7m-rated Andrew Johnson.
There is a growing unease that David Moyes may have to sell in order to buy this summer and AJ would arguably be one of very few replaceable members of a squad that remains depressingly thin.
Meanwhile, Andrei Arshavin has narrowed his desired destination to Spain or England. (Yes, we know Everton haven't a hope in hell of signing him but we may as well see this story through to the end.) It's no secret that he wants to play for Barcelona and that back in January he publicly declared in a interest in playing for the Blues but Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester City are also reportedly in the frame.
On the subject of Arshavin, the best rumour so far is that he agreed to join Everton before Euro 2008 but "it has not been announced...because... Arshavin requested for it to be announced after the Euros so that media in Russia pay all the attention to Russia's performance and not his transfer. Everton have not announced that Moyes has signed his new contract as they are waiting to announce it at the same time as Arshavin." Ace.

Record contract on the table for Moyes
The Sunday Express and now The Times report that David Moyes "is close" to signing a £12m contract extension with Everton, obviously a record for a Goodison manager.
The Blues's boss is expected to get his summer transfer activity underway after returning from holiday on Wednesday but rumours persist that his transfer kitty is dependent on the decision on Destination Kirkby.
He's admitted that "Everton can't afford the roubles" for Andrei Arshavin after his star turn at Euro 2008. The Times report cites the Russian magician's value as £10m (which, assuming they could persuade him to sign, would surely be affordable for Everton) while others suggest a more realistic £20m.

Zenit give Arshavin 20th June deadline
Zenit St Petersburg are apparently upping the pressure a little on Andrei Arshavin by suggesting that he'll be staying with the Uefa Cup winners if he doesn't seal a move away by a week today.
The talented Russian international has long been linked with Everton but his £50k-a-week salary, £12m price tag and apparent desire to play for the likes of Barcelona mean that David Moyes's interest may have cooled through lack of hope that he could land him.
A club spokesman said: "Andrei wants to try playing in one of the leading European leagues, but if he doesn't leave us by June 20 he'll stay in the team."
Getting a move negotiated and signed could be tricky, though, seeing as Arshavin is on Euro 2008 duty, albeit suspended for Russia's first two games.

Bradley: I'd be honoured to play for Blues
Michael Bradley is keeping his options between Germany and England open. If the rhetoric from his agent is to be believed, the versatile USA international seemed to have his heart set on a move to Germany — where Hamburg SV are believed to be interested in his signature — but comments made by the midfielder in the Daily Post today leave the door widen open for a switch to the Premier League.
“I’d love to play in England,” he said after an admittedly less-than-stellar display for his country in their 2-0 friendly loss to England at Wembley last night.
“It’s a fantastic league and there are some terrific players. I watch the games on TV and the speed of them is incredible. They are competitive and I would love to play here.
“I have one-year left on my contract at Heerenveen, so I am looking to move this summer.
“Hopefully something will work out. I know all about Everton. It is a great club and I think anybody would be honoured to go and play there. I know I would.
“We’ll just have to see what happens in the next few weeks."
David Moyes tested Heerenveen's resolve with a bid in January but they refused to sell a player who went on to score 18 goals from midfield in 36 appearances as the Dutch side secured Uefa Cup qualification.

Talk of an Everton takeover
EFC-related forums and websites are abuzz with rumours that Bill Kenwright and the Board are in talks with an unnamed Russian billionaire about a possible buy-out of Everton Football Club.
We have, of course, been here before but sources suggest the interest is firm. A few years ago, Kenwright announced that he was in negotiations with Russian paper magnate, Boris Zingarovich, and his son, Anton, regarding the purchase of an eventual majority stake in the club.
Then there was the Fortress Sports Fund "bid" co-ordinated by Geneva-based businessman, Chris Samuelson. But after leading the media and the fans on a merry dance for months, it eventually emerged that the whole thing had been a mechanism for forcing Paul Gregg out of Everton; FSF may have existed but the Board had no intention of selling up.
That has remained the situation since. Rumour has it that CEO Keith Wyness — and, perhaps, Samuelson as well (it is believed that he continues to search for investment for EFC and he could be the link to this latest opportunity, see below) — have brought interested investors to Kenwright's attention but he has not been interested in relinquishing control of the club he purchased from Peter Johnson seven years ago.
This time it could be different. Facing unprecedented cash demands from David Moyes in order to strengthen the squad for a serious crack at Champions League qualification and another long run in next season's Uefa Cup but without the funds to provide it without a further cash injection from Robert Earl and, perhaps, Sir Philip Green — not to mention escalating projected costs for an increasingly unpopular move to Kirkby — Kenwright is believed to be considering giving up control.
Long-time friend and financier Green is reportedly looking at switching his interest to Tottenham Hotspur and Earl's continued investment may have always been tied to the success of Destination Kirkby, where retail and leisure opportunities provided potential for a good return on that investment. With that project under threat by rising costs and local opposition that may force the Tesco-backed initiative to be called in by the Government, the Planet Hollywood entrepreneur may be reconsidering his options.
That leaves John Woods, the most elusive of the remaining Board members, and, again, rumour has it that he could now be prepared to sell his stake in the club too.
Most of this is conjecture but Kenwright is in something of a dilemma: if he doesn't come through with cash for his manager, Moyes may walk (if rumour was to be believed last August, Moyes threatened to resign then until money materialised for Yakubu and Fernandes) out of frustration. Having achieved back-to-back top-six finishes, the manager holds all the cards at the moment and if the Chairman were seen to be responsible for the loss of arguably the club's greatest asset, his position may become untenable in the face of the fans' reaction.
Providing the transfer kitty necessary, though, will likely be difficult given the level of borrowing against future Sky TV revenue that has already taken place and the impression that Earl has been calling the financial shots in recent months.
How real is this latest prospect of a buyout by foreign interests? If insider information is to be believed, the approach is genuine and it isn't the first but talks are still in the initial stages. Liverpool Echo reporter, Greg O'Keefe, on his Gwlad Tidings blog, was the first to mention rumours of fresh Russian interest in Everton at the beginning of the month. Then there is the story that Kenwright held a meeting with a representative of the interested party before the home game with Newcastle United and then told another Echo journalist — outed by a couple of sources on the Blue Kipper forum as John Thompson — that talks were ongoing with a Russian businessman and that said journalist immediately spilled the beans to nearby acquaintances.
Finally, in an interview on Brian Reade's City Talk radio show yesterday, Keep Everton In Our City spokesman, Dave Kelly, announced the same thing live on air — that the Board were in talks with a Russian billionnaire regarding a takeover of the club.
Speculation on message boards has assumed that the mystery man is Boris Berezovsky, the ex-Russian oligarch and member of Boris Yeltsin's inner circle now exiled in London due to his opposition to Vladimir Putin. A bit of piecing together of information — both public and private — on ToffeeWeb's part, however, leads us to believe that the man in question is Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the former head of oil giant Yukos and once Russia's richest man before he was jailed by the Putin regime on charges of fraud, a move widely believed to be politically motivated according to The Times.
Serving time behind bars in Siberia he may be but that hasn't stopped his partners and lieutenants from investing in various projects in Europe on his behalf and there is some hope that he could soon be released from prison as a symbol of new president Medvedev's promised legal reforms while also receiving vast compensation for the improper liquidation of Yukos' assets by the Russian government two years ago. His personal fortune is believed to be £220m but he has controlling interests in Gibraltar-registered Group Menatap Ltd (many of whose assets were and could still be managed by Valmet, the Geneva-based trust headed by none other than Chris Samuelson) which is worth an estimated £3bn, but a complex setup of foreign and off-shore accounts apparently extends to around £15bn of Yukos' former profits.
Taking all this conjecture a step further, would it explain the fact that Moyes has agreed to stay in principal but not yet signed a new contract at Goodison...?

Blues lodge £10m bid for Turan
According to Galatasary's manager, Everton are have lodged a firm bid of £10m for striker, Arda Turan. The offer is the only one the Turkish club have received from those Premier League clubs to have shown interest so far.
According to the report on Mynet Spor (link is in Turkish), Turan is not amused at having his future discussed in the press when he has been oblivious to plans to sell him. [Thanks to Barry Scott]
UPDATE: It appears as though the comments about Everton's interest and a £10m bid for Turan came not from his manager but his agent, the confusion likely coming from the Turkish word for agent, menajer.
Additionally, it seems as though both early reports linking Everton with the player and subsequent stories adding Newcastle and Spurs to the equation have been rubbished by Galatasary, even though they are in desperate needs of funds for their new stadium development.

City to hijack Arshavin and Jo
The prospect of having Andrei Arshavin at Everton has had many a Blue salivating since he first expressed a desire to don the Royal Blue jersey back in January but it's Manchester City who are in pole position for the exctiting Russian's signature.
Media speculation suggests that the winger could complete a £12m move to Eastlands next week but it will be dependent on the managerial situation being sorted out over there. Sven Goran Eriksson will learn soon enough if he's getting canned in favour of Scolari and the delay could provide an opening for David Moyes... if he is even thinking of spending that much on a player whose value was £8m five months ago.
Update: Additionaly, it is believed that Arshavin's salary demands are in the region of £80k a week which would put him well beyond Everton's wage ceiling. A recent article in The Observer about the newly rich Russian league says, "The talented Arshavin earns a fortune, estimated at a basic £50,000 a week plus huge bonuses."
Meanwhile, the BBC's gossip column suggests that Brazilian striker, Jo, has arrived in England to complete a big-money move to City just days after he was linked with an £18m switch to Goodison.

Bodde is also the subject of interest from Derby County who have also had an approach (believed to be £750,000 rising to £3m) knocked back by the newly-promoted Championship side.

Moyes poised to ink new deal
David Moyes will put pen to paper on an extension to his current contract after thrashing out his future with Chairman Bill Kenwright.
The Guardian report that Moyes will get an additional £10k a week on his existing £40k weekly wage and that he has also received assurances of his transfer kitty for the summer... though the report suggests he'll only have enough for one high-profile acquisition.
That could be Alou Diarra who is now being linked with an £8m switch to Goodison in more respected organs like The Independent and The Guardian who also raise the prospect of renewed interest from West Ham in Andrew Johnson who was the subject of a £15m bid from that club last year.

Agents trying to keep Gravesen move alive
Representatives of Thomas Gravesen are apparently hoping that Celtic will smooth the Dane's path to Galatasaray with a golden handshake that would compensate for the pay-cut he would have to take by joining the Turkish club.
Celtic fans site, Randalstown CSC, suggest that Gravesen is currently on $40,000 a week at Parkhead but with first-team opportunities slim both there and at Goodison, the 31 year-old is hoping to resurrect his career with a move to Turkey. Galatasaray are reportedly looking for midfield cover for the injured Tobias Linderoth who played with Mad Dog at Everton a few years ago.
