Wrong team?

Comments (40)

Ok, the game hasn't started yet but Moyes looks to have picked the wrong team to me. Cahill and Screech in the centre of a 4 man midfield? They are way too similar and no one will protect the back 4. Also no Pienaar and Yakubu back in alongside Saha who looks far better on his own up front. Moyes clearly has his untouchables (hello Tim, hello Yak). Let's hope my fears are totally misplaced.

Lescott. Sigh.

Its time for Moyes to be brave and drop lescott. And not just for a game either. He really has been the poorest defender I’ve ever seen this season. Surely Moyes can see that too?

On the plus side for him, capello obviously hasnt been keeping an eye on everton games this season...

I suspect there are a lot of unhappy english defenders out there at the moment scratching their heads.

Its just embarassing watching him at the moment. He has been awesome for us in the past, but he is making mistakes every few minutes this season. Moyes needs to sub him, pronto - before half time. Make a statement that he can see whats going on.

I cannot understand why he is persevering with him.

Although I’ll just say that he is getting forward a lot and he is always excellent in the oppositions half. But we need a left back who doesnt make defensive errors!

Its not Lescott’s fault. Midfield should have followed Oneil in.

When was the last centre half expected to play left wing for us? Cant remember seeing Ratcliffe crossing ball after ball into the box. Moyes couldnt pick his nose, let alone a proper lineup.

It looks like we need another late show! We are battering Boro, they are very average...but they will get chances on the breakaway. It could go either way. I would like to see Pienaar on for Cahill. Get Arteta in the middle and picking up the ball from the defence so we don’t just lump it up to the strikers, that is Boro’s defence’s strength! We can play our way through this lot. Riggot and Pogataez are there for the taking.

Joeynkoo,

Lescott is playing more central defender and left midfielder than left-back for us today. It was his fault.

Think it is time to change the team around... Tim Cahill is just no good in 4-man mid. No matter how many chances he gets to prove it, he does not deliver. Fellaini and either Rodwell (who was shit last week) or Castillo need to come in along side and sit and do the donkey work..

Too many square pegs in round holes!

A four man midfield of, in my opinion, three central midfielders and a second striker.

A defence of a right back and three centre halves.

And Fellaini and Cahill obviously can’t play in a four man midfield together!

I’d take Yak or Saha off for Pienaar. COYB!

Joeynkoo,

Ok, lets give you that (dont agree with it, but still)... what about the time near the line where he got nutmegged rather than shepard’ing it out of play? Lucky to get away with that. A shocking display.

Their final attack of the half, lescott was nowhere to be seen, and we were lucky they didnt pick the man out again on his own in thr position where a left back should have been,

He is never in position.

We’ve been playing well generally and I would normally have expected us to win this match - but its tough to wn games when you give so many away.

Lescott must be replaced at half time.

Yak - one on one - miss
Cahill - free header - miss
Yobo - header miss
Fluke Lescott cross - hits post

1st half like against Portsmouth - can’t get ball in net.

Cahill having a good game in central midfield.
Arteta coming inside so much leaving a poor Lescott exposed ala Standard Liege at home.

It should be 1-1.
Jags should have got England call up.
I am sick of hearing Lescott whinge about playing left-back.
He should remember he plays for EFC 1st not England and if it was not for EFC he would not even be in the England squad.

Come on Blues 2nd half - get tighter at the back and carry on creating the chances and hopefully we can make a come back.

Got to be rammed home now by Moyes that a win today puts us 2 points behind 4th place and right in the mix - not bad for playing crap so far this season

WTF??? Are we watching the same match? Gareth was dead on about no one protecting the back four, but what has Lescott done wrong? Neville didn?t get back, there was no one in the middle, the other three defenders moved over....... leaving Lescott to mark two men....... and the WORST keeper in the league one-on-one made certain of the rest.

Other than that.... this is the best we?ve played in ages. At least in the other teams? half. Fellaini: FINALLY a midfielder who can actually win a challenge and maybe then do something with the ball (unlike the golden boy Carsley, who was incapable of anything beyond a five-yard square ball).

We do need to create more clear cut chances, though.

I cant believe we arent level or ahead. Boro are playing classic counter football. Theyre having all the luck so far. I predict another late show . 1-1 and Screetch’s afro to be booked forpersistent offside.

Any thoughts on Arteta’s corners today? We’ve had about 10 and apart from the Cahill header none have come to much. He does seem to be getting past the first man but they still come to nothing. Anyone else think we need some variation in taker / what we do with the corner?

I don’t know what happened to Arteta. His worst series of performances since joining Everton recent weeks. I’d say let Osman take the set-pieces. Also, why is Yakubu diving so much lately. Just play ffs.

Good cross Neville, shame about the header.

All players go through runs of bad form, but Arteta’s is alarming. I can only think Moyes is taking the ’play through it’ approach rather than belligerently sticking with him. Ditto Lescott.

I want to see Pienaar on.

Disappointing, but definitely an improvement on recent performances.

Fellaini had a few decisions go against him - which were never fouls - except for that, he was excellent.

So was Jags.

Unlucky.

Some good football today - Saha looked different class.

Neville has come in to his own at full back and Jags was solid. Ossie should never get the nod over peanuts though. Glad to see they tried to keep the ball down whenever they could but midfield needs to have a better balance.

Two points dropped I think...

I?ll second that, Richard.

What the fuck is it with Fellaini and the referees? Do they think he?s Duncan Ferguson?Boro handled the ball thirty-seven times and not once was it called. Granted, thirty-five of them were accidental, but fuuuuccckkk me, will we ever get a break from these bastards?

I just thank fuck that Rob Styles or Mother Riley weren?t reffing. Either one of those twats would?ve given a pen for Joey?s shoulder barge on Alves in the first half.

He (DM) has absolutely got to get rid of Howard. I know that he?s not about to, but that doesn?t make him right.

Still, by some distance the best we?ve played in some time.

Poor, poor, poor performance today, so one paced and slow at that and back to the usual hoofball at times in the game today, shocking! Moyes is too loyal to some players and its got to change because there’s players like Arteta, Cahill, Lescott and Yakubu who are playing, basically shite but he still persists with ’em but there not the only players who are’nt at there best just yet either but how much longer is he going to give these players, are so called better players the chance to recapture there form, too many of them, especially Arteta, have been playing shite for weeks now and its about time he dropped some of ’em if not all of ’em at some stage to make ’em realise that there not untouchable and that when they are playing wank they will be dropped, i think one or two of ’em could do with it to be honest to give ’em a kick up the arse like he did with the Yak last year!!

How much longer can we aford the luxury that is Arteta....

Fellaini starting to silence them annoying dickwads that said we haven?t replaced Carsley...

Cahill in a 4 man midfield.... not on my shift...

Moyes did nowt but wave his hands around asking for more once we scored... chocolate teapot.

Thanks be to god we never got Downing, he is shite...

Impressed with some of the play between Yak and Saha; Screech, looked a yard off the pace but he can usually find a man first pass... Cahill offered little apart from reckless challenges and huff and puff.

Arteta... when running down a man, why oh why does he never cut inside and either shoot or thread a ball through the middle???

Lescott is the worst defensive left back we’ve got ... but the best attacking left back... figure that one out.

Jag was solid, Yobo was okay but his distribution is chronic.

I feel Howard could have done better with their goal... though he was left right in the shite by lack of cover... you could have held a garden fete in the space we granted their attack for the first goal.

Not a bad match though
