The Mail Bag

Same old same old

Apart from a succesion of corners at the start of the 1st half and the Saha chance on the break (which he should have done better with), we did absolutely nothing in tonight's game, the players looked devoid of any ideas, only Howard comes out the game with any credit.

What bugs me is why was Cahill playing on the wing? What does Baines have to do to get a start ahead of Lescott? Where was Vaughan?(he needs to start ahead of Yakubu cos he's just not producing the goods). Arteta is contributing nothing to the team ? either drop him or switch him to the middle so he can get more into the game!!! And what was the point of taking Neville off and switching Jags to right back and sticking with 4-4-2 when were chasing the game, would have made more sense to have gone 3 at the back and putting Baines on the left wing and switching Arteta to the middle and Osman out to the right wing or if Moyes had any balls brought Lukas on and gone 3-4-3!!!

But we all know come the Spurs game on Sunday nothing will change it'll be SAME OLD SAME OLD!!!

I have just watched the Wigan game and I am hugely frustrated, as I am sure many Evertonians are. After starting well, we faded badly and some of the performances from our boys were infuriating. Osman contributed nothing, Arteta was anonimous, Lescott was badly at fault for the goal, Yakubu fell on his arse a few times and missed a glorious chance. Howard was super and Jags was our best defender. Cahill was full of effort and Saha was lively.

However, overall I have to say that we are carrying a lot of dead wood. Let's face it, we are not a team that can afford to do this. The biggest culprit is Arteta who has been very poor all season and just looks disinterested. A few of our players need a serious kick up the backside. And as for Moyes, what the fuck was bringing on Baines all about? 5 minutes left and he brings him on. No offence to Baines but he is hardly a fuckin match winner..... I am sick..... sick I tells ya!

I totally agree with 1 thing in your article:

Taking off Neville and bringing on Baines????

That was absolutely ridiculous. Even I wouldn't have done that change in Championship Manager.

Whats more ridiculous is that Neville is our captain and will be for the remained of his now extended contract...
The guy either gave away the ball or just hoofed it long almost every time he got it, which is the equivalent of giving the ball away...

You are correct Graham. Arteta, even if out of position(?), just isn’t interested. Apart from some tracking back his overall game was awful. Lescott looks uncomfortable and Yakubu needs stabilisers. I am not sure what is going on here, but I do know that we are playing some totally uninspiring crap at the moment. Key players go into hiding when the going gets tough, and we appear to have no game plan from the off. Its a hopeful, unimaginative, embarrassing crock of shite style of football that belongs in the lower leagues. Whilst I appreciate that we are no Chelsea, Man U or Villa for that matter I do expect well paid premier league footballers to be able to pass to one another, and move a little more effectively of the ball. I can’t imagine why attendances are down at Goodison..... Oh, of course, the credit crunch.

Does DM follow an unwritten rule of bringing Victor on in every game after 65 mins?

I was a fervent Moyes supporter up until last night. I really thought we’d start to play when we got our better players back, but we’ve just underperformed to a degree where you have to question the management. We’ve seen that the players are capable, but now I am doubting if the manager is.

Last night’s performance was embarrassing. I’m so sick of substitions in the last five minutes (and switching the full backs at that!), how on earth can anybody change a game in five minutes??

There are several players that need dropping, I agree. Thank God Jagielka and Howard are still playing well.

Awful.

Looking at the team last night and my eleven year old daughter asks :

Why are we playing Cahill on the right ?
Cahill is better in a 4-5-1 & Screech is probably a similar player, how are these two going fit into a 4-4-2 system ?

Luckily after watching 30min’s of total rubbish ( & this was our best bit of the game ) she went to bed early, otherwise I’d have had loads more questions that I couldn’t answer.

Then again I’m not paid £65,000 a week to answer them but I know a fella that is.
MOYES SORT THIS FUCKING MESS OUT OR PISS OFF TO CELTIC OR WHEREVER IT IS YOU REALLY WANT TO BE !!!

And there’s me thinking that Neville had started playing reasonably well at right back! The main culprit in terms of loss of form / influence is Arteta in my opinion.

However, having watched several years of most matches home and away, I can reveal that his form away from home has rarely matched the best of his performances at Goodison. Now even they are a distant memory.
