Who will go down?

Comments (26)

It won't be Hull, Spurs. Newcastle, Wigan, Fulham, Sunderland and probably not Blackburn or Stoke. I'm worried. I feel this brand of football, tactical ineptness and players in with low quality such as Hibbert, Osman, given that our apparently better players are currently appalling too, the future is very bleak.

Arteta I cannot stand, I?ve put up with his dreadful set-pieces for way too long, why doesn?t Moyes change it. The man (Moyes) has not learnt a thing in 7 bloody years. Also what does Cahill offer if he doesn?t score?

We are in a bad bad bad situation in a dated, wooden stadium with restricted views. I really fear for this season, the luck has worn out, and thanks to Kenwright for offering this amazing contract for a guy that hasn?t won anything as a football manager, we are in for some hard times. It saddens me after supporting Everton since 1977, but I can see us becoming another Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, or Coventry City.....

This is completely over the top.

We’re playing awful but we’ll never get relegated this season.

I think WBA, WH and Stoke, if I was going to make a guess.

’Probably not Stoke or Blackburn’? Why not?

We?ve been shite all season and yet we are above all the sides mentioned so apart from maybe Spurs who have shown a massive improvement of late why will these sides be above us. It's ok to be negative but you should also be realistic. West Brom will definitely go down... probably with Blackburn & Stoke.

At the moment it could be about any three of about twelve teams that will go down, at yes we are in the mix as well. The league has become a little bit like the Championship this year with anyone capable of getting a result against anyone, and losing 2-3 games on the trot could mean going from seventh place to nineteenth place.

The thing that shocks me the most is our home form, usually by now we would have won at least 4-5 games at home, but this season we have one just once and it is not inconceivable that we could reach Christmas with just one league win which is a shocking statistic.

We lack any real width or pace and looked completely disjointed on Monday night. I can?t see things getting any better on Sunday either and fear a battering.

Also we seem to be getting injuries to key players, with Vaughan now out, both Saha and Anichebie are doubts for Sunday leaving just Yakubu as our only fit striker, and he is suffering from lack of form/service form midfield.

It?s certainly doom and gloom at the moment, let's hope they prove us wrong at Spurs and make it 3 wins in the trot at White Hart Lane.

And why not Wigan, Sunderland or West Ham for the drop?

The real point is that, unusually for early December (almost), there are at least a dozen teams who really could still go down. And who are playing like they deserve to.

And we are one of them.

(It?s easier at the moment to play ?who will definitely stay up?? I would say: Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool, Villa, Arsenal, Spurs, Man City... er, then I?m not sure!)

Oh come off it! What is the matter with some people? One bad performance against Wigan and it?s all over? Get a grip. It?ll all come good. Still think we?ll finish in the top six (Spurs being a major threat). Arteta needs to sort it pronto he?ll even admit he?s been poor but I feel we?ll get a new stadium and with that an investor you mark my words.

We’re 7th despite playing far below our possibilities. I’m not happy with the current level of performance, but fact is that the biggest part of the PL sides are playing equally bad as us. If we shape up we could coast into the top six easily. If we don’t shape up we will go down the table a little, but I really don’t see us being drawn into a relegation battle. We’ll finish anywhere between 5th and 12th. Even with our terrible football we’re still better than about half the league.

Steve Boll, are you serious? One bad performance? We have used up all the luck we?re going to have this season. There are not three sides playing worse football than us at the moment. I have supported Everton for 42 years and this is up there with the worst times. We are paying Champions League wages to a Championship manager.

If this post isn?t an overreaction I don?t know what is.

Blackburn haven?t won in 8 games, they look to be heading down quite clearly.

West Brom are playing poorly and Stoke have been erratic in form to say the least.

We need to stop panicking, get back to basics and learn how to play football again. But relegation isn?t going to involve us this season.

Fulham
West Brom
Stoke

I think we will do ok on Sunday ? at least a point with Cahill on the scoresheet.

Ok Ok.... maybe I was a little over the top. BUT I?m just sick to death of the shite this highly paid manager dishes us as supporters after 7 fucking years. And yes, many of our players aren?t Premier League standard, and with Yak not scoring who will? Even if we win our next home next month that?s the 2nd victory at Goodison this season, and worryingly it?s DECEMBER!

Fellas, Arteta?s set pieces last few games have actually been threatening. Sure, he misses the odd one (usually free kicks), but I gotta tell ya, there?ve been at least a half dozen corners each game that have fizzed in and looked good.

Dunno why everyone keeps bagging them?

The question I would be asking, is if some DO drop short, why are none of our players at the front post, or playing in front of the opposition defenders so the cross doesn?t go to waste??

Just a thought.....

We won’t get relegated but if we ever did I am afraid Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry etc isn’t the worst assessment I have ever heard.

How can anyone compare us to Coventry? They play in sky blue and were, for a long time, an overachieving outfit that somehow contrived to escape certain relegation on the last day of the season what.... 29 times in a row?

We play in royal blue and have been, for merely two decades, an underachieving outfit who only had to contrive to escape relegation on the last day of the season.... about 10 times in a row.

There?s no way we?ll go down. But concede five at the Lane on Sunday? Probably a safer bet than predicting that we?ll score.

COYB!!!

This post is garbage. Just as an example, "low quality such as Hibbert". FFS, when did he last play? At least if you are going to post this muck, pick on someone who has been playing. Hibbert is not my favourite either but to slag him when he's not even been playing tells me you dont watch us much.

Man, I?d hate to be a supporter of the lower tier and hear them whinge this much.

We?re 7th.. Get over it :)

Sure we could use more set kick options, but Arteta still manages some brilliance now and then.

It's a team sport. We haven?t got the funds of other teams. We try and get the best out of what we have, Moyes attempts to field who is looking the best in his view.

We?re doing ok, ok not great but ok.

For what we?ve got, it's good. I love how people are expecting the death of the club after a loss but it's all forgotten once we win again. Least we could be consistent in one frame of mind... lol

Bring on Tottenham! :)

Name one winger who ever gave Hibbert a beating? Go head, all you Hibbo haters, put your thinking caps on.

And another thing, he never throws the towel in or goes into hiding like the much adored Osman and Arteta.

Dick Fearon- I have to agree with you mate, Hibbert is a great defender and plays best with a good solid right-sided midfielder, which we haven't had for a while. How many times does Osman lose possession, and put the full back under pressure? On the other hand, I would make sure when he wins the tackle he passes it no more than 7 yards to a blue shirt.

Moyes is not doing a great job at the moment but can we please stop saying he is a ?Championship Manager?. He?s finished 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th without spending much money. I?m not sure of the figures but it must be around £20million net in 6 and a half years.

The club will never progress until Kenwright is out of ?our? football club.

Kenwright thinks he?s the only person capable of leading Everton. Well, I?ll not be going to a home game whilst he?s still the owner of the club.

I think the point the original poster is making, without realising it, is that the PL this season, is probably the most competitive it's ever been. Everyone is beating everyone else, and nobody has been cut adrift, nobody is playing that badly which makes for a very interesting league.

There's only a few points from the bottom to 6th place, and the gap from us to Villa is only about 5 points.

Taking all that into consideration and it means that theres everything to play for, for everyone.

Over the course of a season you would have to say we?re stronger than most, and with that in mind, a top 6 finish has to be our realistic aim. Us, Villa, and Spurs will still be the 3 team vying for 5th/6th/7th spots.

Chill out and enjoy the competition ? after all, that's what we all want isn?t it?

One bad performance Steve Boll? Maybe you’re right, but only if you class the rest as diabolical.

West Brom will go as they can’t score goals. Blackburn will go if Santa Cruz is packed off to Citeh and not replaced. West Ham’s financial problems are severe and put them in danger.

What would make Everton vulnerable to a real relegation fight is the lack of squad depth and we’re more likely to have the usual sale in January rather than buying. Finances aren’t helped by churning out a brand of football that is damn near unwatchable.

Joe:

As you?ve probably noted on TW, just about every Evertonian is sick of this season already (with possible exception of Richard Dodds, who presumably still thinks we?ll win the league).

However, despite the weekly diet of dross that we serve up, we lie 7th in the league because of the overwhelming mediocrity that exists outside of the top 4 or 5. Frankly, your forecasts about the impending fortunes of Stoke, Fulham, Blackburn, etc, etc, and Everton, are baseless and ridiculous.

Enclosed in our little Everton bubble, we think we’re the shittest team in the league. There are a lot of other supporters of other teams who think they are just as shit. There ARE 3 worse sides than us in this division at least.

My concern is not that we’re on our way down but the fact that any progress has been completely halted. We’re now just a mid-table to bottom half side going nowhere except a shite stadium nowhere near our natural home.

Please explain to me why you think Sunderland won’t go down? They are pathetic, can’t defend to save their lives, and just got beat by Bolton at home 4-1. They are in the relegation zone, so why can’t they go down but you think we will? I won’t even bother reading the rest of that crap after that ridiculous statement.

I can’t understand how so many people can be so negative, wer 9th and it’s only november.Wish everyone would calm down, we have the quality and you all know it - as it has been proven by finishing 4th and 7th
in recent years. I think we will come good, just need to get a few players back into form, as soon as the likes of Yakubu, Cahill, Arteta etc score a goal or we get a good 3 points the confidence will be restored and we will be right back up there, come on lads!
Most of the teams below us are nowhere near us in quality and ability!

Matty, it must be great in your world, behind those blue tinted specs?
You mention the confidence word, well, surely with our form going into the Wigan game, confidence would have been high? We wer’e after all, playing a team who had only won once at home all season, and were in the bottom 3, so their confidence must have been shattered to bits. But, we turn in another fucking woeful performance, to go with every other woeful performance this season.
Maybe you should look a little deeper Matty, you may realise there is a lot more to it than confidence and players out of form, etc. We have been shite since the Fiorentina game, and that was a lot of games ago, but you will probalby tell me that that was last season so doesn’t count? Also, I thought we were 10th?
