David Moyes is quoted on the OS as saying that he is looking to strengthen the squad in January with such resources as at his disposal, but that in the meantime -
"There might be some games where we've got centre-halves and midfielders at centre forward".
I hope Vic just starts knocking them in, but if necessity is the mother of invention, who would Moyes put up front from the start — or move up if required? Lescott seems an obvious candidate to me, but 'midfielders'? Cahill perhaps, but is he thinking about Fellaini?

The Post is now suggesting that Vaughan's season is now over as well as Yakubu's. Since when does a cartilage problem keep a player out for 6 months?
Also, why does a simple cartilage op need to be done by the 'worlds leading knee surgeon' ?
If Steadman has broken his arm then there are a million other orthopaedic surgeons capable of performing a simple cartilage op.
Is there something more going on with Vaughan?
I believe Osman’s played up front once or twice, so he might be an ideal candidate. I’d rather have Cahill playing behind the forwards, so he can do his trademark late run.

FFS! Matt. Obviously Vaughan believed in this surgeon. So he had an accident; these things happen.
Stick big Mo up there and launch it Wimbledon style.
3 points on Sunday with Cahill scoring the winner as a belated birthday present.
It wasn’t too long ago that a cartilage problem would have ended a player’s career. Today the advances in surgical techniques can patch a player up so quickly it may not always be to their best advantage.
I remember that young Ball chap who was practically crocked when Wally Smith flogged him off to the highest bidder........................
You?d have to be pretty pissed off if you are Lukas Jutkiewicz. Surely he should get a run with Saha / Yak / Vaughan out. When else is the kid likely to break through but when we have no other strikers left!!
Other options: Jose Baxter, Keiran Agard. Give ?em a chance, surely better than a punt loan for a 30-odd-year-old in January.

As the Irish Uefa Cup presenter off Channel 5 once said "there?s always high drama at Everton!" Only Everton could have to delay an operation to one of their players, because one specialist has broke his arm. What next is in the script? haha!
And does no-one think Jutkiewicz should be given a chance? Maybe he?s not brilliant, but at the end of the day he?s a striker who?s job is to score goals and I?d rather see him given a chance before we start playing the likes of Lescott as an emergency striker instead!
Cahill, Osman and Fellaini can all play as second strikers, they all have done this season.
We definatly need a striker though, someone who can support Louis Saha and Vic.
While Baxter isn't ready yet and Lukas may never be good enough, throwing them on late in games is a better option than hoping Osman or Cahill can play up front. We must get a striker in in January and there will plenty available all over the world on loans or Bosmans ? we just have to look harder as plenty of other teams seem to be able to pick them up. Big Vic up front for the next few weeks, while not ideal, will get us through until January ? especially if Saha is back quicker than expected. We are better playing 4-5-1 anyway.
Jutkiewicz has vanished into the Goodison void, along with Van der Meyde, Vaughan, Castillo and that Danish fella. It?s a bit like the Twilight Zone.
Calling big Dunc, calling big Dunc, come in big Dunc.
Moyes has stated his intention to bring players in, more bodies can only be good for the overall strength of the side, but don't expect any more bench warmers, those brought in will do a job or the centre halves/midfielders WILL have to play out of position.
Expect another bid for Obina (a player to excite the fans), as touted Larsson, and don't be surprised if a Big Dunc type player, who can hold the ball up, is brought in, to allow Cahill to play off. I also expect Baines to go, if not in January then in the Summer, this could then free up some decent cash for a decent striker. In every grey cloud there can be a silver lining, COYB
I am available. Even though I?m 45 years old I still have a body like James Beattie, and, what is more, I once scored 4 goals in a game for Crosby Keep Fit. We live in Cape Town but my wife says that, even though she?d miss me a bit, she?s willing to exchange me for a decent tumble dryer, a new bedspread and a couple of Hannah Montana DVDs for our girls. If any of you have EFC contacts please put Mr Moyes in touch via toffeeweb.
You have to consider that, when Moyes says things like "There might be some games where we?ve got centre-halves and midfielders at centre forward" that he is taking the mickey, throwing rubbish out there for the media muppets to write about. I happen to think Moyes is honest to a fault but would you blame him if he fucked with the gentlemen of the press from time to time?
Listen to the video of these press conferences, listen to the whining passive-aggressive way the press pack ask questions. Deal with that week-in, week-out and you would be sorely tempted not to say, "So there?s this experienced striker named Brian Hill in South Africa and while we don?t like to talk about transfers, there is this complicated deal we?re working on involving Hannah Montana....."
There was an interview with Moyes before on Radio Merseyside where he said that Vaughan will not be back ?until the last few weeks of the season?, so it looks like he is going to be out for some time.
Brian, brilliant post! Especially after having just caught up with the last 3 weeks' mailbag.
I?d have to agree with the nay-sayers that Moyes has lost his sparkle for the club/game and that malaise has been transmitted to a number of key players. That so many decent players have lost their mojo could possibly be attribued to Moyes's general body language and disinterest in playing positive, attacking football.
Why do we only see positive substitutions when we?re chasing a game (West Ham, Man Utd)? Invariably you feel, If an attack-minded approach was taken from the kick-off, we?d be winning games and playing decent football. I want to see Baines and ?Shandy? play and Arteta in centre-mid... Hey-ho, soon be Christmas!
