Attacking the Park End

Comments (33)

Has anyone else noticed in the last three games we have attacked the Park End in the second half? We always attacked the Street End in the past but I dont know why it's changed. I know people might say that the sun will shine in the Gwladys Street goalmouth to distract the keeper but against Villa it was dark the whole game and we still attacked the Park End? Maybe Moyes wants a change in plan or maybe its just coincidence. Can anyone answer my question?

Tom, is this a trick question??
I see you?ve put your abode as Ireland. Surely this is also a joke??
At least your mail has lightened up the place from the recent DK stuff...

I have a feeling that Michael may have had the first and the last word on this.

So can the stats maestros give us any guidance on this topic ? does attacking the Street End in the second half really matter in terms of results? I don?t know ? does anybody?

Tom, there is a coin toss before each game between the captains and the winner of the coin toss can decide which goal his team will attack first. Usually this is a mere formality as whoever wins the toss the teams attack the goal in front of them as they?ve run out onto the pitch, sometimes opposition captains like to switch it to try and upset the rhythm of the other team ? or like you suggest because of the low sun. Don?t worry about any rude comments; we all had to ask about this at one point.

As a slight divergence from the original question, which Mr Kenrick adequately answered in four words, has anyone moticed that, over the last few years, we tend to score most of our goals at the Park End? Or am I imagining it?

What? We?ve been scoring at home? (Apart from the Villa match obviously.) I do tend to think this topic is all about perception rather than fact. Has it got to the point where we are clutching at straws like this? Frankly I don?t care... No1 aim: win; No 2 aim: play it on the deck ? I loved it this time last season when we were in the Uefa Cup and we proved (albeit against weak teams) that we could play it nice when we wanted to ? need I remind you of Osman?s goal against Larissa?

Surely the afro debate has more merit than this?!

All to do with season ticket holders in the Park End wanting some 2nd-half entertainment.

We must have lost the coin toss as Everton don?t rate the support that comes from the Park End... after all, why else would the proposed new Park End be given to the away fans?

(I bet you all thought we?d actually get a topic that didn?t mention Kirkby!)

Colin, when did you ask it, I was about 5.

Anyone, anywhere in the world who professes to be a football fan and who watches it live or on the television will watch a referee toss a coin prior to every game, what else could anyone derive from watching that?

The politically correct brigade cannot defend everything anybody else thinks or does, the guy cannot know anything about football or he has never watched it, don't patronise him with comments like "Don't worry about the rude comments and such...", educate him, yes but you cannot believe for one minute he is a football fan in the true sense of the word with posts like that.

I am responding when I said no one should but defending things like that are the fundamental reasons why mediocrity is the desire of supporters like Tom yourself and Stephen and I am afraid a growing majority of Everton fans.

The Irish comment is downright ignorant and again not welcome, but be honest, you must have laughed out loud first, then decided to make him feel better, I bet the minute he saw Micheal?s response, nothing from that point on was going to help any way.

I apologise profusely, Tom, for giving you grief and more so if you are really blind.

Down the pub the guy would be slaughtered for it and rightly so.

At the Villa game, it's no surprise that Laursen won the toss as he is the biggest tosser in their team. I remember him doing the ear thing at the end of the 2 - 2 last season when there had been vociferous support for us and no real grief for them. When we finished 5th, I loved it. Gutted he got us back after we floored him with the equaliser on Sunday.

Sorry, well off the point! I know the players and fans and clearly the opposition know that we prefer to attack the Street End in the 2nd half but I don't think the heavy groan every time we lose the toss helps the lads' confidence!!

Some of the responses to this post are disgraceful. OK, the answer may be obvious to many, but that should not give them the right to ridicule the original poster. He wasn?t offensive in his post, and you who have replied in a piss-taking or derogatory manner should show more respect.

Paul,

Hating that you have driven me to respond to your comments made both about myself & others, the so called "politically correct brigade" ? maybe we are just the polite brigade.

The guy has never claimed to know anything about football; he has never given his age (maybe he is young). Maybe he does or doesn?t know anything about it but can I ask what is a football fan in the true sense of the word? And do you have to be a so-called football fan in the true sense of the word to ask the question or participate on this website?

Also to decipher out of our response that mediocrity is the desire of "supporters like us" is just ridiculous. You have absolutely no idea what kind of supporters we are or what kind of desires we have for Everton Football Club.

You were right when you said the Irish comments were ignorant & unwelcome but I didn?t laugh when I read the post. I read it again to make sure I wasn?t misunderstanding something & thought to myself he has to know that but I didn?t laugh & I certainly wouldn?t ridicule somebody for it so I did not reply to the post.

I replied to a comment about the rude replies that were posted. If you read them again you will see that they were actually rude no matter what the question, whether easy or complex. To presume what you did about me (& the other guys) out of that is crazy. I?d like to know how you did it to be honest. What avenues of thought you took to end up with that answer.

My point, to put it simply, is maybe if you have nothing reasonable to say, in a polite manner, no matter which side of the argument you fall on, you should just say nothing at all.

What?s wrong with the ?Ireland comment?...there?s nothing wrong with a little bit of Irony on a Friday afternoon...

Personally, I raise a smile at the suggestion of Irish intellectual inferiority.... After all, continual academic evidence suggests that Ireland, both North and South are head and shoulders above the rest of the British Isles in the intellect department...

Why do you think Terry Wogan is now British.

QED. Irony eh!

Say nothing, do nothing ? they used to call them concientious objectors at some time in History.

One thing I am not is an apologist for other people, if you come on this site and make a comment then be prepared to be taken to task, sometimes ridiculed and sometimes down right abused as we all have at times on here.

My overall point is just let it role, good feedback, bad feedback, positive or negative it's what makes this site special ? it does not need a knight in shining armour coming along every time someone gets a bit of grief.

It makes no difference how old he maybe or if he is a supporter or not really, it's about education and in this instance he learned a little bit more, and to be honest when he looks back in a year's time he will remember the ribbing he got and not the apologies from you and others.

Sit on the fence, you suggest, I think not, the world needs black and white in more ways than one.

Of course I fucking know about a coin toss, Jesus when I captain my football team I do it every weekend. FFS I'm not stupid don't insult my intelligence. And even if we lost the coin toss, why would Laursen want to attack the Street End where the daunting EFC supporters are instead of the Villa fans in the corner of the Bullens?

Tom, you can't be serious, can you?

On the valid point re Why attack the Park End? ? Well, if I was the away captain I would not want the home team motivated in the part of the game when normally the away team are under more pressure, we also score more winners in the second half so why give Everton more of an advantage attacking the end they prefer?

If my post is so shit then how come it took you that long to answer my original question, you gobshite? And now don't say "because you?re stupid I had to tell you a basic rule" or something like that. I know what a coin toss is and I'm surprised it hasn't been replaced by technology but FFS sake you haven't understood my original question and it was a simple post.

Paul maybe you?re right and he was playing mindgames but don't attempt to call me stupid when you clearly aren't the sharpest tool in the box. (There's an Irish phrase for you). And Ciaran is right Ireland have consisently held better 2nd level grades then Britain so fuck off insulting my country.

Shane, which bit are you referring to, the first paragraph cut and paste from my post, or the rant that basically admitted he did not know that the end a team attacks in the first half is determined by a toss of a coin? He still does not understand his original question was ridiculous.

Lose the toss and you have no choice as to which way you play. He was referring in his question that Everton took the decision to attack the Street End in the fist half, which clearly they did not, Villa decided that for them. So therefore Tom cannot understand the toss of the coin.

I have not called you stupid, I deplored the comment made about the Irish, I have rightfully questioned your lack of thought post as any right minded poster would.

So Shane which bit is left that won the debate, if there was one in the first place? Was it the bit that said Fuck Off? If it is, then well done ? you won the argument.

I would not get so upset about it Tom, you made a mistake, live with it.

No I didn't I know what a coin toss is, and no, I think the traditional coin toss should be left as it is. I'm just saying I'm surprised new technology hasn't past it by.

Ok, I apoligise for saying Fuck Off, but I stand by my post. I think ye all just misread what I'm asking and I'm sorry if it's not clear enough. Just to prove to you, a coin toss is done by the ref before a game, usually the away team picks heads or tales, if he wins then they decide where to shoot. My question was asking why Laursen/Neville attacked the opposite ends they usually do? That's all.
