Steve McMahon

What a sad bitter tosser McMahon is, did anyone else hear his pre-match and half-time interview?

He never had a good word to say about Everton, even after our good first half. He said, "There's only one winner of this game and that's Man City, they've got more about them than Everton."

Every time I've seen him on TV or heard him on the radio, he always seems to put us down one way or another. Sad wanker.

Not surprising really. He was the Rooney of the 80s.

When I was 14 he was my favourite player.... an ex-ball boy at Goodison who lived a mile from the stadium and was a breath of fresh air when he burst into the team at 18. Remember ’’Stevie McMahon, Stevie McHahon, Hello, Stevie McMahon....’’ He got stuck in, but could really play as well.

And he had that great ’wedge’ haircut too!

Unfortunately, he left Goodison after a row over money in 1983. Things turned sour when he was pelted with traffic comes in his car on the way to the League Cup Semi 1st leg at Goodison in 1984 and I always believe our fans were particularly hard on him because we wished he’d never left.

In 1985 he then committed a final act of stupidity by signing for the Redshite and gave every bitter Evertonian every reason to abuse him... which of course they did. He was actually a superb player - like a younger Peter Reid... ironically a boyhood Red who ended up playing for us directly against McMahon in many a Derby game.

Sadly, I don’t think he’s ever forgiven us... as proved on Saturday. A shame really.

As a player ? not bad; but as a person ? lacks class. Typical rednose: if it's blue, knock it... and we get called bitter. Proved his loyalty when he left over a rise he didn?t deserve.

I?m really surprised by all of this. A few year?s ago I saw Steve McMahon at the Milk Cup watching his son play for ... Everton!

Steve McMahon ? when a young man at Everton, shared a club house in Maghull and drank in the Hare and Hounds. Removed from the club house for bullying and being a bad influence. Removed from the Hare and Hounds by local heavies for bullying and acting the ?hardman?. Definitely a psycho.

Went to Villa and carried on, including an incident when he purposedly pissed on Villa ?Legend? Dennis Mortimer in the toilets. Has anyone inside the game got time for him or a nice word to say about his career or personality?Fellow Scousers who played with him at Villa, ex Everton players, ex LFC players ? anyone who has come into contact with McMahon throughout his career? The answer is a resounding NO.

That is why he is far away in Asia spouting his usual shite.

Read ?Sharpy? the way he describes Fuck Off McMahon, it's hardly surprising he is still a bitter twisted red shite. You only have to remember the tackle on poor old John Ebbrell to see what a twat he is, a poor man's Peter Reid... but fat.

Yeah, remember the tackle on Ebbrell very well. McMahon tried to do him and ended up breaking his own leg, that sight of him being carried off will live with me forever.

What makes me laugh is, no matter how much money the red crap spend, they can never finish more than a couple of places above us in the league. No wonder they?re bitter.

Steve McMahon is a pundit with ESPN Starsports in Asia and trust me, I hate his guts. We have listened to him week-in, week-out and never has anything nice to say about EFC. I love it when he predicts a 3- or 4-nil loss for us and we actually win the game such as against City last weekend and the most memorable was against RS when AJ ripped them apart at Goodison. Brilliant!

While I didn’t hear what he said about us during the City match, I’ve watched him at other times and he has said good things about us. But it’s not his job to talk us up, he’s not paid by the club and is independent. I watched him before and during the Wigan match and all he was talking about was how we should come away victorious, how Moyes has done such a good job, and how good Arteta can be. So he may have been wrong about the analysis on Saturday but who cares. And he was not a shit player, he may have played for the other side but he was very good.

He’s been out in Singapore for a couple of years now, and signed a 3 year extension earlier this year.

Having had a few beers with him, I was surprised to hear that he still considers himself an Everton fan. He reckons he asked for 10 quid more a week in 83, and that Liverpool wanted him straight away, but out of "loyalty" to Everton, he went to Villa first - and not with a pre-conceived notion of then moving on to Liverpool.

He’s okay to have a beer with as long as you don’t talk about football. He nearly lamped a mate of mine (Brighton fan) who asked him and Ian Rush whether starting off in management at a lower league club was tougher than in the Prem.

To which Macca heard "You were a failure at Blackpool"...

He’s got the gig at ESPN STAR Sports cos he speaks his mind, and antagonises the other "pundits". Given that this market is full of top 4 sycophantic "supporters" the coverage is always biased as hell as that’s what the market wants. City, due to their wealth, have bought their way into that. Asia is the most fickle football market of all.

Fortunately ESS lost the rights for the Prem in Singapore and Thailand so we get the joys of Joe Morrisson on the Football Channel, and their gaggle of ex-RS punditry.

I recall 20+ years ago discussing McMahon in a pub near Goodison.

Chap told me McMahon had been chucking his weight around in a bar both EFC and RS frequented in Southport. Apparently he?d been getting increasing lairy towards Kevin Ratcliffe and so Pat van den Hauwe twatted him. By all accounts not one of McMahon?s RS team mates came to his aid ? such was the respect he held among them.

That twat is a pundit on ESPN Star Sports in Asia. Along with the other twat Shebby Singh. What a fine pair of twats they make. Doubt the two of them ever have a good word to say about us, irrespective of the performance.

It’s good though, because it exposes their bias and shows them to be the idiots they are.

I think Matt Traynor has a point with what he says about McMahon.........

Years ago I was in a Chinese restaurant in Southport (China Wall or Garden I think) with my Mum, Dad and Brother (all RS) and he was sat down in the foyer waiting for some takeaway which they did as a favour, my brother saw him and started saying to Dad "that’s him, it is, that;s him" then McMahon turned round and said "he’s right, I am Steve McMahon" and signed an autograph for my brother and had a good chat with my Dad about football.

He seemed to me to be a nice guy but then again, he hadn’t been drinking and there was no reason to be confrontational or antagonistic, to me, he’s controversial at times because it draws attention but I will admit that from all I’ve heard over the years, he does appear to be an arsehole.

When RS do us down, from Fat Rafa and his "small club" jibe to their ?wacky? banners, its because they know, deep down, we?re their biggest rivals and always will be.

For all they?ve won they?re still obsessed and insecure about Everton FC. Enjoy!!!

Ahhh... Pat Van Den Hauwe, what a legend.

I recall sitting in the upper Glawdys Street, watching him come back to defend after a corner, and he purposely went out of his way to deck the Spurs striker Nico Claesen who was stood in the centre circle. A great moment in football.

McMahon was a decent player but no more. Not in the same class as Peter Reid either as a player or as a person. He left Goodison in 1983 ? cue the most successful period in Everton?s history. Says it all really.

I don?t know McMahon in any capacity, except from what I saw on TV during his playing days, and the occasional time whenever he is doing his punditry.

I can understand the anger about him leaving Everton and all, but get a grip. He is a good player, if you remove all the bias clouding your eyes. Mind you, he played for Liverpool during the tail end of their successful period, albeit one shared with us in the mid to late 90s.

His partnership with Ronnie Whelan is probably one of the best. Both can tackle and pass, short and long. Yes, we got our Reid and Bracewell, who are a dynamic duo. But these guys are good too.

But what am i saying? This is a fans? corner, and fans like to get together and blast someone else off : ) Point taken.

Anyways, from what it?s worth, Shebby actually gives quite insightful commentary, and to be fair to him, he said very positive stuff about the mobility of our midfield. Check it out if you don?t believe me. McMahon, while he didn?t exactly praise Everton, gave a valid point about how Man City defended a corner with NO defenders on either post.
That?s a valid point.

Steve McMahon was one of the greatest players to have played for EFC. He practically carried the side for 2 seasons. He was on 300 hundred pound a week while that tosser David Johnson was on a 1000 pound a week. All that he wanted was a small increase. The real truth of the matter is that Kendall didn?t rate him and allowed him to move on.

He came to manage Perth Glory, Western Australia a few years ago. he had the whole side against him (and injured) within a few weeks with insane training schedules and continually gave the impression that he was way above everyone else. He only lasted half a season and was incredibly unpopular.
