One City One Club!

Comments (18)

According to the Daily Mail, BBC bosses were furious that the Sports Personality Awards (held in Liverpool) were disrupted by the absence of representatives from one of the City's football clubs... but no, it wasn't us this time; apparently it was our neighbours who didn't show much enthusiasm for the event, whilst a number of Blues including David Moyes were in attendance. Are we really going to leave them to be the sole representatives of the City? .

The RS are no longer about the city and haven?t been for many years ? not surprising since 70% of their support couldn?t even pick Liverpool out on a map!

They identify with the Sky billions and all the rank commercialism that goes with it

Liverpool FC? Liverpool Plc more like ? it should be them confined to a fucking business park in Kirkby!!

Given that it's invite only, they had no reason to turn up if they didn't want to. It's now like many football trophies, a bit pointless. Expanding the whole event to cover more awards etc devalues the whole affair and to top line sports stars is just something their agents push them into attending.

I think if you yourself didn?t watch the programme you can't complain if none of them turned up when they wern?t up for an award.

Good point, well made Shaun. The beeb are obviously hurting that one of the so called "big four" they so shamelessly favour have rebuffed them publically.

Oh dear.... love hurts!

Kevin Chung ? Genius Fella! Nick Entwistle ? WTF are you on about? Are you telling me you had access to the official invite list and only Everton representatives were on it, or are you a RS supporter defending a bunch of mercenary, glory hunting, classless shower for not representing OUR city at the BBC?s most prestigious awards ceremony?

Proud and blue! COYB

Sorry Chris, there?s an An missing before invite, didn?t mean to say Invite Only as such... but what is so prestigious about it nowadays?

I don?t think it takes pride of place in many sports people's trophy room. It's an old relic of an award from times when there wasn?t the massive number of award ceremonies we have today, and this one is just one of many pointless peices of tin.

While we are on the subject of the RS. There was a good piece in the Daily Mirror this morning about a survey of Clubs and supporters. The survey reveals that the RS have more glory hunting ’supporters’ than any other club. I wish they’d tell us something we didn’t already know! Why didn’t they just ask us?

I was listening to this on 5Live in the car and, as Pip and Rush where delivering their award, the Commentator said, and I am paraphrasing here, "Its a real shame the Liverpool FC couldn?t be bothered to put up someone from the current first team or management for this event, given that it is in Liverpool, Capital of Culture etc. Not even "Fat Waiter" is here. And Everton have David Moyes and Phil etc" Co commentator "Disgrace". Words to that effect. No Class etc......

Mind you the event was IN LIVERPOOL so the only people present would be Evertonians anyway. Should have held it somewhere in Scandinavia...

The reason the RS had nobody at the event was because both the Spanish and Norwegian air traffic contollers were on strike.

Case closed.

Apparently they are still sulking because they didn't get Team of the Year in 2005 when they won in Istanbul (the cricket team got it for the Ashes).

Ok, so Moyes was there like most other managers and Neville had been asked to present, not like our whole squad was there.

Besides, I was under the impression that Rush has a Liverpool FC ambassador-type role and Benitez has been in hospital getting kidney stones removed...

We?re stretching to find an ounce of one-upmanship here people, let's just win the next derby eh?!...

Scott,

It isn’t a case of trying to find a measure of one-upmanship. It has always been evident. Maybe Rush had something else on and Benitez wasn’t well but there are any number of other employees of LFC who could have attended, players or otherwise.

What did Gerrard have to do that prevented him from attending? This is his home town after all and he plays for one of the Clubs in his home town. Considering the event and the fact of it being held here in Liverpool I would have thought at least he or Carragher (as scousers themselves) would have broken their necks to get there.

Don’t have to find one-upmanship mate...it’s already there for all to see.

Compare what Everton do for charity; for the community and for its old players with what LFC do and the difference in class is self evident. We might not have the silverware and we may have our own ’internal’ differences at the moment, but the Everton Family is an entirely more fulfilling experience than that offered by the self-serving and arrogant crowd across the park.

It’s almost worth a trophy for me!

I don?t think the shite care about the city ? most of their support comes from elsewhere. The conceited bastards probably think they are above it. Never mind, though... Bill and Co will give them the City for a handful of silver.

Steven Gerrard didn?t attend an event in his ?hometown??

I didn?t realise the awards ceremony was staged in Whiston....deep in the heart of Knowsley (where the darlin of the Kop was born). Amazing how will our darling neighbours adore a ?woollyback? not from ?der citee!?. Perhaps they should switch the captaincy to another super ?scouser? ? Jamie Carragher for example. Shame he was born in Bootle (deep in ?scouse? Sefton borough.

It does prove that the whole ?our city? saga is pretty stupid, when all is said and done (and blues and reds are both to blame in my view).

Wow, Alan, that is inviting hate mail unto the third or fourth generation. The idea that you have to be born or at least live in the City of Liverpool to be any part of it. But never mind.

Moyes was there. I guess that several burley bouncers would have been needed to keep him out. And he wasn?t needed to present a prize. He just knew what was right ? and did it.

Class? Simple decency ? a huge difference between us and those cheating bastards.
