Stubbsy

Comments (16)

Before Alan Stubbs joined our coaching staff at the end of September, we were played 6, goals against 13 in the league; since he?s been at Finch Farm, we're played 11, goals against 12.

When Stubbsy played for us, I always loved how extremely pissed off he got whenever we conceded ? usually utter anguish coupled with a downward fist-pump. It looks to me like he's communicated that passion to defend to the squad. Those stats can't be coincidence, and I just wanted to recognise his contribution.

I agree with you that Alan Stubbs has improved the defence. The ability was always there, but the defence had lost a bit of belief, which wasn?t helped by the injuries and the stop-start pre-season the team had this season. In particular, I?ve seen improvements in Joleon Lescott?s defending, and we all know how important he is to the team.

I would rather we had played 11 games and conceded none!!!

Good shout! Stubbsy must have an impact on things at the back.

A pointless post. Stubbs isn?t anywhere near coaching the first team. So coincidence is exactly what it is.

Brilliant shout mate, the thought had never really occurred to me.

Total and utter bollocks! You can take it from me, Stubbs has not been allowed within half a mile of the first team squad. To date he has been a peripheral figure, learning his trade whilst working with the kids.

Just get your facts right before singling out people for inappropriate praise!

This post is a complete, and utter, guess. You have no idea what contribution, if any, he?s made to the back four letting less in.

Honestly. I could make the same random guess, that with the onset of winter, and the colder weather, we?ve conceded less. Thus demonstrating that our defenders prefer harder pitches. Or that they are starting to perk up at the sight of the January transfer window. Or that they prefer playing under floodlights. Or fellaini has learnt some english. Or that Lescott has grudingly accepted that left back is his best chance of first team action. Or that they have finally listened to the rants and raves at half time regarding defending. Or any one of a hundred things.

Bill,

Ok, we’ll take it from you. Do you have any more inside information to impart? Any juicy bits to help while away these dark winter nights? Or are you just guessing too?

Bloody hell, I?m sure in whatever capacity Stubbs is fulfilling at EFC there?s no sanction prevent him from chatting with the lads during tea, in the hallway, in the shower or down the pub. He?s probably simply saying things like "I?m 38(?), dodgy knees, and can still defend better than you lot. Get your fucking act together!" Whether it has a effect or not, let?s try hiring Gary Lineker to find out at the other end of the field?

Whether he has or hasn?t had any direct contribution or not with the first team, the reserves or even the tea lady, anyone with as much passion for Everton as Stubbsy behind the scenes can only be a massive bonus. To see the desire for the shirt that he had and still does must insipre to some extent anyone connected to the club, and for me that is a massive positive ? something far too many so-called Evertonians serverly lack!

AND IF YOU KNOW YOUR HISTORY!!

Maybe good old Stubbsy is coaching our defenders how to stand on the ball and fall over and put opposing strikers clean through on goal just like he did in yet another Anfield derby disgrace. I wasn?t actually aware Stubbs was back on the scene but Jagielka's Villa debacle now makes perfect sense.
