Vagner Love

Comments (25)

Has anyone else seen that on BBC gossip column which states- "CSKA Moscow striker Vagner Love, who is rated at £12m, has revealed that Everton are leading the race to sign him - but insists that he still wants to join Real Madrid." Now i know its only 'gossip'; however, if its true, let him go to Real Madrid.

They are not the team they were a few years back and let's be honest who exactly knows a lot about this Vagner Love fella anyway? He's banged a lot of goals in a crap league where I'm sure Jo from City has done the same, and he hasn't exactly set the world alight... has he?

He?s a goalscorer ? has scored plenty in the Uefa Cup already this year as well. Also, the Russian League, although not the Prem, is hardly crap. Zenit won the Uefa Cup, and the Russian team did pretty well in knocking England out, whilst making the semis at Euro 2008.

If there is some way we can get him in, perhaps a loan, with an agreement for a fee in the summer, then we could be on to a winner.

There?s always hope that we may have investment by summer ? Kirkby (love it or hate it) could lead us to a new owner.

Anyways, he could just be using us to flush out another club to buy him (Spurs for example). Who knows, but we are entering silly season and there will be plenty more strikers linked with us in the next 6 weeks!

When Brazil played England in the first or second ever game at the new Wembley he came on (with his blue hair) and I thought he looked a fantastic player.

Anyone else recall his stint when he came on as sub? (Sorry it was a while ago and he may have even started but I remember thinking he looked like another one of those players we would love but could never get!)

I always thought he was higher rated than Jo. But I have to admit I only saw him play twice or so. To get him on a loan would be good, although I think he would need time to settle here and the season might be over before he does...

Striker Leroy Lita, who is on loan at Norwich, could be allowed to leave Reading in January for only £300,000. (The Sun) Source BBC Gossip

Now did anyone else rate this lad highly? Also he was amazing in the Under-21s tournament in Netherlands was it?

Now the only thing I can think of is his attitude and personal life, which Coppell doesn't agree with and Moyes definately won't have.

It's an option though to get him for a month's wages of Michael Owen!!

It?s nice to be involved with £12 million rated strikers; fact is, though, we have fuck all to spend and I?d rather make do with what we?ve got than waste money on a short term fix.

Also, an honest question, is Obinna any good? If he is, why is he available on loan? Signing loan players is what ultimately separates us from the sky four.

I?ve seen him play and think that he could be good for us. But he wants to play for Real Madrid, whether they?re a spent force or not. So he?s see us as a stepping stone, just like M?Bia would have done. That?s fine, but to come out and say it before a deal is even done smacks a little of disrespect, I think.

I like the idea of Lita on the cheap if there?s little else; he?s quick and strong (although I think his record is questionable), and if Dave is right, worth three weeks of Owen?s wages...

It is nice to be linked with big players, and for the player himself to mention that we have made an approach. If we did get him on loan, then he would be desperate to prove himself in Europe and maybe attract the Madrids of this world. That, of course, though, would be good and bad for Everton if he managed it.

Not so sure about Mr Love. I have a feeling he won?t settle in the Premiership, not sure why just instinct.

Andy Crooks - "Also, an honest question, is Obinna any good? If he is, why is he available on loan? Signing loan players is what ultimately separates us from the sky four."

It may be an honest question, but in my opinion it?s a stupid one. No good players are ever loaned are they? Have a word! "Loaning players is ultimately what separates us from the sky four" They buy players because they can afford to, so ultimately it is the money that separates us not the fact we loan players FFS.

Neil, I accept that of course it?s down to money, that was my point. It was an honest question in that I know little about him and would like to hear from someone who does.

Why should he not want to play for Real Madrid? That?s the goal for many players from South America. Barcelona would be another choice, as would either Milan Club, Man Utd, etc...

These are the historically big clubs, especially in latter years, and you can?t expect a Brazilian playing in the Russian League to have any understanding of our pedigree and think any differently.

This understandably irks us Toffees but let?s not take it out on a young player. Comments like "let him go and play for Madrid then" do little to help OUR cause. It?s not his fault, it?s the fault of the club for not getting our name out there. The only way to do this is for quality players like Love to be courted and persuaded that they can fulfill their ambitions with us and others WILL follow ? they need to be convinced, as do the fans, that ambition is paramount ? not comments like, "we?re solid, with solid foundations, and that we?re doing everything right, both on and off the field". It?s another feather in our cap. Feathers mean fuck all without the odd trophy.

Unfortunately I don?t see our present board and management team being able to convinvce a young talented player that they can be a superstar here. Let?s not chastise him for not knowing how great a club WE are.

In my mind Vagner Love is overpriced, Pavel Pogrebnyak is a better looking player who I think would suit the EPL more and don’t even get me started on reasons why moving for the glass ankled Welsh midget is a huge mistake; the first would be short memories of anyone who saw just how shite he was at Goodison for the skunks for the last game of last season where he was anonymous and now a shadow of his former one trick pony self.

Lita isn’t a bad shout at the money being quoted as he always looked decent for Reading but then they played attacking football where at least three players swept forward into the opposition area to attack the ball being crossed in, at £300,000 he’s not a bad punt.

I?ve seen Love play several times and I?ve seen enough to say with absolute confidence....STEER CLEAR !!

This is just another Benjani/Jo waiting to happen... thank the lord we have no money as to spend big on this one would be a HUGE mistake believe me!!

Sean, Dave, ? That was my point, hence the question mark and the remark that followed.

Of course good players are loaned out Sometimes they are surplus to requirements, have an internal dispute or just aren?t settling. I thought Andy was suggesting he can?t be that good if they are willing to farm him out, but I?m willing to concede that maybe that?s not exactly what he meant.

The players you list are just a few of the many valuable loans that have been made by Premier League sides in recent seasons.

David Beckham was loaned out at one point in his career. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was. Both players went to Real Madrid later on.

Love is not the man for Everton. We need a bigger player that can hold the ball up for Tim as well as bang in a few himself and wingers to go with him. Obinna plus 1 other.

Madrid signed Huntelaar earlier than planned due to the injury to van Nistelrooy. They don’t normally do much in January, unless it’s for stop gaps (Tommy G springs to mind).

Two ways of viewing this. If we got someone like Love in for 18 months and sold him on at a profit, it’s good business.

Look at Diarra in Portsmouth. They only signed him in January - a lot on here wanted us to go for him, and a lot felt he was using Portsmouth as a stepping stone.

Portsmouth are likely to rake in 4 times what they paid for him. I bet Chelsea are pissed off now...

Like it or not, Everton has a history of selling for the right price. Rooney, Ferguson, Michael Ball, Lineker, Alan Ball. Only Rooney wanted to go.

To me there are two reasons as to why a club would loan a player out to another club. The first is to get rid of him whatever way they can. Normally this means he?s rubbish, has an attitude problem, is too expensive or is past it. Not a very attractive proposition any way you look at it. I know we are only looking for a short-term fix but I would still rather a player come in with a positive reputation.

The second reason is to give a young player you rate highly some valuable experience. Last August, we were a much more attractive proposition for this kind of player than we are now. I may just be overly pessimistic here but surely there are clubs in better positions than us right now to attract quality loan signings.

I second the Leroy Lita post, that would be a bargain. Young, strong, bags of pace... his value would only go up.

Owen would be a waste of money and would be automatic first choice when fit. Too old, not got the pace he once had, and he needs excellent service, which I doubt he would get. I'd rather have Yakubu any day over Owen.

Anyone else think the lad Leroy Lita might be worth a punt in the window (even on loan maybe)? I remember the lad playing at Goodison for Reading and he looked fast and strong with an eye for a goal. He's out on loan at Norwich at the moment so he's obviously not doing the business at Reading but you don't become a bad player overnight as they say. I reckon he might give us "something else" up front...?
