This week, I have been mostly feeling...

When I think back over my posts during the season so far, I'm starting to feel like that bloke on the Fast Show. Instead of a different food every week, it's emotion.

Here's what I mean. Last week, for example, I was thinking about how there was a lack of conviction in the squad and that this was the reason why we just weren't performing on the same consistent level as last season. Last season as a fan, I went into every game believing we would win. Even against the top four, I always thought we would get something out of the game. I thought that this was the fan's equivalent of a team feeling confident and believing that it was going to win every game.

This season I thought that as I did not have this conviction as a fan, given how the summer and the season so far had gone, the team by extension did not have it either.

Then came Monday night's performance and all of a sudden this week, I'm going into the Christmas run of games feeling great about our propects and expecting great things. I'm now fully convinced that the team is full of confidence and will put a great run together.

It's just been a weird season where I think most fans genuinely don't know whether they've been coming or going and it has been awful to endure. If we do get a run of good results over the next ten days, I think things may settle somewhat. Then again, the January transfer window will be open and I'll have something else to moan about!

I reckon most fans think more or less game to game.
Get a good result and the season kicks off and we will finish top four.
Have a stinker and we blame Moyse and Kenwright and will be lucky to escape relegation.
Win the next game ...... etc
Regardless, in my opinion I think how a season pans out has a great deal to do with how the pre season goes.
Not so much as results of pre season games but the fact that a full squad is in attendance and routines and general fitness levels are ironed out.
This year our pre season was non existant and games early doors reflected this. Our squad is wafer thin when everyone is fit and available. Look at the personnel available to us before the Blackburn game. Winning and losing is so tight we need eveyone.
Considering all the cock ups we’ve had during and after the close season we’ve not done too bad. Luck and a few good results will give you less to worry about Kieran.
Then again if you weren’t a worrier or moaner you wouldn’t be a BLUE !
Compliments of the season to you and all blues everywhere.

The bitter irony of Monday night is that it was played with no miraculous new players in the squad, no additions, no multi-million pound superstars, just the squad we’ve had most of the season at DM’s disposal. As a season ticket holder and Evertonian I demand this sort of spirit and football fight from the team every week not just in a single match or sporadic bursts.

What is great about our present team formation is that with NO target man to aim at it is absolutely pointless for defenders to just hoof it up front.Once again Moyes has come up with a totally inovative team formation which he should now stick with.Friends closer to the action than I am tell me he is salivating at all those clean sheets and believes he has found the perfect way ’to play it tight and try to nick one’.The man’s a fucking genius!

It has been a frustrating season Kieran and I certainly miss the feeling we had last year of expecting to win. Still with the wit of the likes of Tony and Gavin demanding spirit and fight, maybe we will get it right before too long and finish top half. Not good enough for the Nil Satis brigade, but i’ll take it for now :-)

This has all the hallmarks of another of Moyeses 50% seasons 04-05 the classic 50-50 split. This may be the poor 1st Qtr, the good middle and the poor last Qtr fade out capitulation.

I pick us to finish with a 6th Round FA Cup defeat in mid-March and then coast on the back of a Uefa Cup type hangover.

Today, and Monday, were examples of what a committed squad and coach can achieve. Team spirit overcoming injuries. What a shame so many points were lost when our early season injury hit squad were coached by a man committed to lining his own pockets.
