Tim Cahill ? Mr Everton
Comments (27)
Just got back from Boro and witnessed another gutsy Everton performance, albeit against a poor Boro side. Once again, our own Aussie dynamo gave an absolutely priceless performance as a makeshift centre-forward.
Looking at some of the prima donnas who strut around the Premier League, Cahill reminds me of a byegone age when players were happy to fill any roll in the team as long as they played. He took a real buffering today from the much more physical Boro centre-halves and gave as good as he got without complaint. Can you imagine Ronaldo reacting to a stamp on him from the Chelsea player Alex and getting straight up with a handshake? I think not.
Boro had a free-kick with seconds left today and piled men into the box, I feared the worst. Guess who outjumped everyone to head away? Yep, Mr Reliable. One of Moyes's best buys at £2M and a player who gives 100% to the cause each and every game, whether carrying an injury or not.
I hope when he eventually leaves the Blues, fans recognise the contribution this great club man made.

I agree. Old boingey works his plums off whether he is playing well or not. He sets the tempo to our team that is seemingly the difference between us being a top 6 team and a mid table team
Will all those grumpy old men who have slagged off our little Tim stand up. All those who said he can only play as a support striker, all those who said he couldn?t do this that and the other.
Woooooah Timmy Cahill. Timmy, Timmy Cahill.
Wonder who will be counted...
In my opinion he should be the Captain regardless of Neville?s experience, I think Tim represents all that is good about the team and he likes to win.
Commeth the man commeth the hour, Michael, stand up be yourself and honest on the site, I have watched us for a fair few years, about 3 of which we have been good.
During the 80s we were, for those 3, but had some real lazy players who if they were not playing well might as well have not been there.
Say what you will and what your agenda says, playing well or otherwise, Tiny Tim gives it all and sorry for anyone who cannot see it.
Talking of agendas, team selection and formation today, enough said, supporting a team and a club is about support and not about ones own pre conceived views, i.e. any chance of any credit where maybe it is due for our Manager? We are supposed to be supporters and wanting him to succeed.
I, for one, have been guilty on occasion of wondering just what the hell Cahill was doing on the pitch. Not today, though.
Can clearly see why Moyes always finds a way to fit him in the line-up.
His attitude and impact is priceless and is clearly infectious on the players around him.
How many times has he saved or won us a game? Absolute champion.
He is simply different class! List his goals, the only Premier League grounds he hasn?t scored at are Fulham, Wigan, West Ham and West Brom! How many other players can boast a record like that? He or Jags should be captain! Tim Cahill is Everton!
The Lord loves a trier, and so should we. Accordingly, Tim earns and deserves our affection. He is the team?s heartbeat.
It’s always good when a manager has his ’own representatives’ on the pitch (think Keane for Ferguson, Viera for Wenger). Cahill is the personification of the Moyes philosophy on the pitch, like it or not. Somehow that may be why our record with Cahill playing is so much better than our record without.
Do you think that giving Cahill the armband would take away thing from his game? Must admit though that Cahill is Everton! Let's keep this run going now! COYB
Good post, Tim is what Everton is all about. Get 11 players with his attitude & abilities and you would be a top four side.
Good with his feet, great in the air, great energy, great desire, a battler who must be a nightmare to play against, and scores goals ? probably Moyes's best signing.
Not only is Tim our most important player ? he?s my favourite player too.
The thing I like about us is the team spirit. Players celebrate together, they get involved with the fans and they work for each other. Yoy cant buy that sort of togetherness... COYB
Tim Cahill ? "the Blue Kangaroo"! Love yeah, lad.
We have had no one like Tim Cahill since Mick Lyons. Lyons would play anywhere, at any time. I think it is fair to say Cahill is a different class above, but the two deserve the tag of being true blue, loyal Evertonians. Proud of them both.
He genuinely loves the blues and will spend the rest of his career at Goodison, loyalty is something quickly diminishing in the modern game. Love ya Tim!
It maybe a good time to remind Evertonians just how we managed to sign Tim Cahill. The only comment you seem to get now is what a good signing David Moyes made and you get the impression that Davey had been after him for some time.
In fact the summer transfer activity before the 2004-05 season was a pretty miserable affair. Little or no money to spend, Moyes being accused of dithering, you know the usual, not unlike what's just gone on only worse. Everyone he went after went somewhere else.
Now Tim Cahill had all but signed for Crystal Palace. It was a done deal and this was right at the end of the window... I?m not sure but the season may have already started. Tim had passed a medical for Palace and had agreed terms. He just needed to sign on the dotted line but then a problem occurred.
Palace had that gobshite Chairman, the one that insulted Everton Football Club that time claiming they were a bigger club than us. I can?t remember his name he may still be there. Anyway he refused to pay Cahill?s agent and stated that Tim should pay the agent himself. The deal broke down.
It had got to the stage were Moyes was desperate to sign someone, stepped in and took a chance on Tim. The rest is history... do you get the feeling that history is repeating itself with Maruane Fellaini?
Loyalty is EVERYTHING. Tim is a class act.
Time to make him Captain ? simple as.
Tim Cahill is for us what Bryan Robson was for Manchester United.
Money cannot buy what Tim has hence my disappointment when we failed to nail Moutinho.
However I think Steve is right. Fellaini is beginning to show signs of becoming a second Cahill and I guess in a few years £17M will look like a bargain.
The best thing bout Timmy is that you feel he’ll never leave for money purposes.. he has a blue heart and will never leave Everton ..
Bless you Tim Cahill..
Cahill for PM and Captain :P
If only he did not play for Australia. I understand his devotion to his country, but what more could he have done had there not been any running around the globe playing (often injured or getting injured in the process...) for the Socceroos. Tim, I love you, but this might be the difference in between your being great (and I do not use this word lightly) and your being a legend. I will however always think of you as a top Everton player. Thanks, lad.
His passion for his country and club is what makes him what he is. Reckon he wouldn’t be the same player without the fire in the belly he clearly gets from playing for both Australia and Everton Jonathan.
Precisely, Steve P... and Jonathan, with respect, you have to understand the Aussie psyche that makes Tim what is he is for us. Every Aussie boy with any interest in sport dreams of playing for his country. There?s no club v country dilemma downunder. Club is a means to an end: being good enough through your club performances to be selected for your country.
In addition to what Steve E says, we?re also lucky to have Tim because, were it not for his size, his growing up in Sydney?s western suburbs (rugby league heartland) coupled with his Samoan heritage would otherwise have almost certainly seen him playing rugby or rugby league ? Ben Roberts (Canterbury Bulldogs halfback) and Joe and Jeremy Stanley (former All Blacks) are his cousins.
Cahill is a great player a class act. Typical someone has to moan about him playing for Australia. If he was English no one would care about him playing internationals. Isn?t Australia's World Cup qualification as important as England's? I think that if Moyes had tried to stop him from playing for The Socceroos then he would quickly lose his passion for the Blues.
What is our record with and with out him?
