Pip Neville

This is a short one for once, but I just wanted to say how well Neville has done this season, and against Sunderland I thought he was brilliant! He could go onto pick up that most improved player of the season award. I know he's a Manc and you cant get worse than a Manc but he's even come out and said that he didn't think any other team could have a better team spirit than United .... but then he came to Everton! Anyways, I just wanted to hear all your views on Neville this season, and if you were happy with him in midfield yesterday with Arteta ? I think Arteta and Neville dominated the midfield most of the game.

Benji - I fully agree with you. I think Neville has had to fight an uphill battle from the first day he joined Everton. Coming from United and being a Neville didn’t endear him to the Goodison fateful. But, for anyone who cared to see beyond this, it ’s clear that Phil Neville is a gem of a player. He has all the ingredients that define a typical Everton player - hardworking, dedicated, honest, loyal. And he’s a natural leader to boot. Neville will always be a good player for Everton, regardless of whether or not he has an occasional off day, or lays off a stray pass or two. The sooner Everton supporters come to see him for what he is - a good Everton pro - the better for all of us. Give him the support he deserves ! Wishing all on this website a very Happy New Year. Onwards to the FA Cup final in 2009 !

He’s playing well, he has done for most of the season in all honesty. Hopefully he continues to push on and lead like a captain should.

Despite what people say he didn’t do that last season, he was the weak link in our side and he was very inconsistent. I want a captain who’s performances lead by example and Neville wasn’t offering that in my opinion.

Now he’s playing well and he’s offering us alot more on the pitch which is what I want to see. Good on him.

Honestly speaking, Pip is showing good form of late because of decent ball-playing players surrounding him i.e. Arteta, Pienaar, Felliani. Just like his old manu days playing alongside Becks and co. When we paired Cars with Pip he was utter shite and useless. Pip is a water carrier, which to be fair is essential to modern teams.

We still need a captain who would stand up and run through a brick wall when the other players’ heads are down or when playing against the top4 sides IMHO.

What does PN need to do to win over bitter fans such as Jason and Connor. PN has been our best player this year.

I think he?s the best captain we?ve had for a long long time, and he?s definitely playing much better, maybe confidence maybe something else, but whatever it is I hope he keeps it up.

Invaluable experience and versatility (well, to a point!).

So unlucky the other day with what would?ve been our goal of the season had he taken an inch or 2 off it!...

That new extended contract he signed in the summer?s looking a better and better move, there were a lot of unhappy campers when that news came out ? I?m guessing not so many any more.

Phil Neville should be a good player since he has been playing top level footy for the best part of fifteen years. Whilst I agree that his form has improved a little and he is a very good pro, if he tries anything beyond the ordinary then he makes mistakes and looks crap. Leave him at right back where his work is best and let him run the team from there. In the meantime, let's hope Moyes has got his eyes on a replacement the coming years as Pip is no spring chicken either!

The reason for our current form is PN being moved to midfield. But goats like Pete want him moved back to full back. Leave it to Moyes.

Did Pip not do that for us against Man U. When the chips were down he took matters in to his own hands a made a massive tackle on Ronaldo.

Arguably the turning point of the game if not our season.

I believed that he?s always been brilliant as midfield. But, since we already had Lee Carsley, it made our game very stagnant.

I mean, with two Defensive Midfielder, it made PN very much a waste and hampered smooth play in the middle.

Phil Neville has played well at right back, but I don?t think playing him centre-mid should be a regular thing because he?ll get found out against some of the better teams. We need a natural defensive centre-mid to help protect the back four, I thought that was why Fellaini was bought but obviously not. Essien or Yaya Toue would do or what about trying that Stephane M?Bia again? Actually on second thoughts we have no money!

Phil Neville has always been honest and committed and a great captain but his performances were too often, well, poor... UNTIL he fucking snapped Ronaldo against United. The lad has not been the same player since. He?s turned into a demon and his displays have been awesome ever since!!!

His whole game has gone up a level since that moment and I can't remember a bad performance lately. It's like a weight has been removed from his shoulders now that he has shown us he is fully committed to us and loves the blues!!! CLASS PLAYER!!

As long as Pip just sticks to the Lee Carsley role i.e. back up defender ? quick decisive tackles and simple passes, combined with good leadership ? and let the others doing the attacking work, we will be fine as long... as he doesn?t try anything too fancy.

Pip is doing really well this season and that goes for Tony Hibbert as well. But Cahill has to be captain.

Does or does not Neville pull on an Everton Shirt and plays for us? So I don?t bother if he is a Manc or whatever. I?m Portuguese and support the Blues ever since.

I did watch the games on TV, Chelsea and Boro. Is it me or is Jagielka pure class? Possibly the best in England. I think we have a wonderful squad with classy players.
GO BLUES!

What?s the fact he?s a Manc got to do with it? Sorry but I stopped caring about those sorts of things when I was 12... OK, maybe not 'til I was 14.

I think Moyes has found a role that works for Arteta & Neville together. We either stick with Hibbert who isn't that bad or we look for a new right back and a high standard.

A timely shout Benji and Ben has added some fine points. Anybody who had doubts about Phil's allegiance to the Everton cause, saw for themselves after that tackle on El Diver. The reaction from his former team-mates showed us all how committed Phil was to his Everton mates, and our performance after was the start of our present run.

Must hold my hands up and say I was one of his biggest critics last year. However, this year he has been absolutly brilliant whether at full back or midfield. I do agree though that having an easy outlet in Arteta has probably improved Pip's performance.

Chris Brigden... Keep your dickhead comments to yourself lad and just get on with the posts in the manner of the rest of us. I suppose you think that we have become world beaters just cos Pip has been moved to the middle? Well, if my memory serves me correctly, he has generally been piss poor in the middle in the past although his effort has been excellent.

Something else that you missed is the fact that Arteta is doing a good job in the middle, Baines has given us a bit extra on the left and Lescott is in his best position and just finding form.

When I watch a match, I watch both teams: apart from Chelsea, the others we have played recently have been rubbish and we SHOULD be beating them. These past games have been good confidence builders for the very difficult games coming our way, in which we may need a little bit more than pure effort to come away with results. As long as the effort is there, I won?t complain too much....

I’ve never been a Phil Neville fan, but I do admire what he has that is severely lacking in the majority of EPL players of today - PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOUR.

I’ve watched him suffer a few ridiculously dangerous fouls against him over the last year or two (Kuyt the Shyte?) - what does he do - shakes it off, gets up, gets on with it, no complaints.
You would like to think that the Ronaldos, Drogbas and other nancies (aka cheating twats) in this league would take note - NO CHANCE.
Phil Neville is a model professional of the old school and I am proud that he plays for Everton, being a Manc or not. I hope that the other players continue to learn this kind of attitude from him.

Phil has had a tough time winning me over, but this season has done it for me!

I thought I?d never say this but Phil Neville now ranks as a true blue in my eyes, which for me is the greatest compliment of all.

He?s now showing class on the pitch (not always been true) as well as off (which he always has done).

The problem Pip used to have in CM was when he played with Carsley, they are both decent players but together reduced the creativity of ourt midfield to less than nil.

Now he can play there without Carsley but doing the defensive job by himself he looks a lot better, as he?s not relied on to provide the creativity just to win the ball & give it to Arteta instead.

he has done a good job since moving to CM but he was doing an excellent job at right back before that. He is a good, honest professional who will alaways give 100% every game and wears his heart on his sleeve, as someone said earlier he is in many ways the perfect Everton player & arguably the best captain we?ve had for a long time!

Another positive to take into the New Year. Phil Neville has worked very hard and shown great attitude since he came, but he has become a much better player with us. Happy New Year skipper, and the rest of the squad.

And that means the rest of us too.

The man has been excellent on & off the pitch. Plays with the same heart as Cahill, like an adopted Evertonian. Doesn’t matter where & what he came from, he’s one of us now and I’m glad he is. Pity that shot didn’t go in against Blunderland, probably the best near miss I’ve seen.

Phil is not a midfielder in the accepted ball-playing sense but he can play there doing exactly the job he is doing now. All the times we and he have struggled, he has been trying to do the ball-playing role, now we have the horses for courses, square pegs in square holes, we and he are looking sound...

All of which begs the question??? Davey Moyes (and Round for that matter) ? Fluke-meisters or geniuses???

Phil Neville is playing very well at the moment and that shot he had against Sunderland was very un-Neville-like. He was immense against Man U and has been in that vein since.

But if Benji thinks Pip should get the most improved player award I will have to disagree ? have you seen Hibbert lately? I?ll have some of what those two guys are on.
