Moyes Knows

Comments (16)

This is the only year since we had Rooney where other clubs are interested in making large bids for our players. I think this is a fantastic sign of Moyes's transfer dealings and how far we have come since he took over the club. The fact is that his entire transfer spend could be recouped by selling only one or 2 of the players HE has brought to our club for bargain prices.

Arteta was bought for £2.2 mllion. He has given us fantastic service and now looks a top midfielder in our new system. Bentley, Barry, Modric, and Diarra have all been priced at just under £20 million and, in my mind Arteta is at least their equal.

Lescott has been bought 'on the drip' for a fee rising to around £5.5 million. An England international and recognised as a top player in England. Alves has gone to Barca for £25M; Woodgate went for £9M... Lescott must be worth around £15M.

I wouldn't want either of these players to leave under any circumstances to either City or Arsenal, I don't imagine that anyone else would either. But what I would say is this: Arsene Wenger has consistently sold players such as Anelka, Petit, Overmars and re-invested into the team and acquiring top class young players from around Europe earning praise from Arsenal fans e.g. 'Arsene Knows'.

One thing is for sure, if both Arteta and Lescott were sold and Moyes given upwards of £35M to spend on transfers I would have no problem with that simply because;

1) Baines, Jagielka, Yobo and Neville cost a total of £18.5M.

2) Pienaar, Gosling, Fellaini and Cahill cost £21M.

3) When Moyes has been given money we have signed a much sought after player (Fellaini) and the prems top scorer (Yakubu)

4) Moyes has entirely rebuilt us from an old team under Walter Smith into a young top 6 side on peanuts.

I hope these two stay and we receive investment but one thing is for sure... Moyes knows.

Krøldup, Beattie, Wright, Johnson, Van der Meyde... I'd rather keep hold of the players we've got and let Moyes get his bargin buys from the lower divisions.

Good article, Mark ? and you?re right: it?s a fantastic sign that we have players being linked with the Sky 4. It?s an indicator that we?re close to that arena and with a bit of luck (and money) we can breach it again.

If only Moyes was given more money at the end of last season (yes, I know we don?t have it so I?m not ?complaining?), we?d be top 4 now.

Chances are, however, that we may well have to sell to buy (as we had to do with AJ) and so don?t be surprised if a few players left to bring a few more in. That?s the current financial landscape unfortunately.

Mark, we have some top quality players. But at the moment, Arteta and Lescott have only been touted by the media, not Arsenal or Man City.

?Moyes given upwards of £35M? ? you?re having a laugh aren?t you? If either Arteta or Lescott were sold there is only one place that money is going and that?s to cover our ever swelling debt. There?s absolutely no other reason to sell your best players, you just don?t do it.

The Arsenal players you mentioned, none of them went on to achieve much after leaving. Wenger gets the best years out of a player and then sells, unless you believe that either Lescott or Arteta?s best years are behind them, then there is simply no comparison!

Mark

Wenger has sold top players... that's why he stopped winning things. No matter how good a coach or man manager Wenger may be, selling people like Henry and Viera has seen Arsenal sink from being the unbeaten invincibles, to a side desperately trying to get into the top 4. Teams that sell their best players will go backwards

I don't accept that we have to sell either, certainly not at £12 million. Martin O'Neill showed everyone the way to do business last summer when he told the Shite to pay through the nose or sod off.

The people from the Emirates should know that to land Arteta ? a far superior player to Barry ? then the figure has to be raised considerably and Ramsey has to be part of the deal.

Come on Kenwright and Moyes, you?ve seen how the Villa dealt with a similar situation... Make them pay big time or fuck them off!

It?s silly season again in the papers. Moyes doesn?t like doing business in January, he?s said so on many occassions. So chances are Kase, it?s unlikely we?ll be selling anyone. I expect there to be very little movement in January between any of the Premier League clubs.

One aspect which has received little comment today has been the role of agents. They make fortunes when players move, and will try to unsettle them. Do we know how Mikel, and possibly Joleon, are represented?

Unless someone offers him loads more money and the chance of playing for Spain, I can?t see him going. He will move eventually of course, but probably back to Spain, and not for a while yet.

A big danger is, of course, that if the stupid money (£12M ? an insult) becomes silly money (£20M) then the club could unsettle the player. But we will have to wait and see.

Well, the Guardian article on "possible ins and outs" says possible "ins" (loans only) include that Pazzini fella and, Jesus wept, Nugent and Larsson, and has Mikel and Leighton Baines as the only possible "outs".

if Andy fucking Reid was worth £5m than Mikky is at least £20m for starters. £12m... cheeky pricks!

The talk of £12m from the Arse could simply be a ploy on their part to bring Zenit down on the price they?re asking for Arshavin ? the man they really want. Arse could be hinting to them, "Look, why would we pay £20m for your lad when Everton has a proven star who we could have for £12m, so meet us half-way and accept £16m?". They wouldn?t be the first club to pull such a stunt.

I think Moyes should raise the cash and buy Benni from Blackburn. We really need a good finisher to be able too end the season on a high note and push for a CL spot.

Tom McGrath ?I think if you weigh up the signings he has made, the positives far outweigh the negatives. Don?t forget that we made a profit on Johnson!

Kenwright has today come out and said there will be players coming in.

Moyes has clearly demonstrated ability to see player potential and shop for them where his resources dictate for best value ? a hallmark of good business governance, which can go awry however, as has happened at Man City. So be careful what we wish for.
