Getting what we wish for

A lunchtime discussion amongst Evertonians somewhat naturally focussed on where we see Moyes's priorities being by way of signings.
The majority view was that a replacement for Carsley was vital (although if he was so important to our set-up why the hell was he let go?) as well as the sturdily built play-maker we have needed forever.
With a solid defence in placeand the goalscoring skills of AJ and the Yak to hand, our view was that any other signings would be very much squad players and the annual over the hill "make-weight" that Davey always manages to turn up.
What do others think?

Could not agree more.
The Aimar, Arshavin rumours are keeping me going this summer though. After watching the toffees all last year this is exactly the player we need to progress. Get Ronnie Corbett, Prince, Mitch Ward and Bonaparte in the mix as well and the midfield is starting to take shape Give Popa Bing Bob Dolop and the other brutes in the Premiership a run for their money.
Pretty much spot on I’d say.
I think Cars was out of contract and with his family situation he wanted a move closer to his roots.
We seem to be constantly linked with Aimar although I can’t see it myself unless Arteta is on his way.
Of every one linked so far Lorik Cana from Marseille would be my number one pick.
From what I have seen from the YouTube video of Cana, he could well turn out to be our very own "on the field" Joey Barton
I have not been watching Spanish football for a while but I was wanting people's opinions on Aimar. Is he still as good as he was at Valencia?? Or would he be going to Goodison (If he does come) for a final pay day??..
Sorry to inform you, lads and girls. I have been told on good info that David has only got £12mil to spend. What a joke, Bill and Ben have got to go soon... otherwise the manager will be gone befor Xmas. Sorry it's bad news but it's the truth.
Frank Bird, how do you know this is true?
Tony Hughes, Frank Bird knows nothing.
Same as every other sad sack who pops up on here with their "Well, that’s what I got told" bilge.
Although, apologies to Frank - doubtless his neighbour knows the fella who lives next door to the bloke who looks after the Park End car park. So it’s gospel after all.
I would not listen to any ?I have been told? rummers until they are actually proven. Everyone hears something. And we do need a playmaker so the Yak can feed off
Surely it’s time to give Captain Marvel his rightful place in the Carsley role.I’d be more than happy with Hibbert at full-back-we won more games with him in the team-but if he’s still injured Gosling can get his chance. That way,Moyesey can blow all £12M on the playmaker!
Would have liked to see the Dutchman Engellar at Goodison.
Don't know wether Shalke have bought him though.
He was rumoured around £6 million... anyone know if he's signed anywhere?
Den Maddock please tell me you’re joking. No really please. That was sick of you, sick and wrong.
Forgot to chuck my two penn’orth in. Buy Manuel Fernandes for holding role/central midfield and a more out and out defensive holding midfielder, preferably one who could cover centre back as Hank the God of Irony will no doubt cripple two of Yobo, Lescott and Jagielka if we start the season with only 3 centre backs. I’d also buy two more midfielders, one a left winger (with an actual left foot) and another attacking/creative player, personally I’d buy a wide right player and look to play Arteta inside more often. I don’t think we need a separate playmaker, we need the conditions created to allow Fernandes and Arteta to dominate the play.
Den M. just the thought of what you propose makes me feel quite ill. I suspect a bit of wummery or hopefully your tongue is firmly in your cheek.
Aimar is only 28 so is probably not after a final pay day but his goals scored record is awful. But he is very very similar to Arteta. And please don’t even bother to mention Arshevin - no chance.
Annual Over The Hill make-weight? (Scratches Head)
It is clear for all to see that our midfield is the priority, if we can see it I am sure Moyes can.
Defence looks solid but we need back ups now
My nominations for ?over-the-hill make-weights' of previous seasons would certainly include VdM and Gravesen. Last season, Wessels and Gardener would also fulfill that description. Hope Davey?s a bit more discerning this time even if his £12M spends can be supplemented by loan signings!
I suspect that Davey will have much more than £12M to spend but if he were to be resricted to that amount we could, at least, be sure that he would secure £20M worth of value!
I reckon Moyes will get Fernandes and Bradley in and I think there will be a "big" signing like Joaquin or Gonzales. Nearly forgot, a back up goalie as well. I agree with Richard Dodd, whatever Moyes gets to spend he will get value for it.
£12M in Moyes’ hands is like £150M in Newcastle’s hand. Maybe even more.
To match or better last seasons effort in all competitions I believe we need no less than 6 players as the bare minimum - Goalkeeper, Centre Back, Defensive Mid, 2 x Attack Mid and Left Winger.
If we have about 20 Mill - goalie will have to be free and 2 positions will need to be loans of which one hopefully manny.
Well, whether it?s £12M, £20M or £150M - he'd better be close to spending some of that. Any idea when he will sign to extend his stay at Goodison?
Never mind who?s coming in, has Van der Meyde got his P45 yet?
Let's no get carried away here, DM has made some good signings but he?s also made some howlers, claiming if you give him £12 million, he?ll get £20 million worth of talent is wishful thinking
I think with the signings of Krøldrup, AJ + Biffa he actually did the reverse!
If we could get a full season out of Vaughan and Cahill, I think we would see a substantial difference. Add to that a return of form of Arteta and we are laughing. Finally a holding midfield man that can play, my preference would be fernandes, but some others mentioned would also be great (Not PN!), finally the expensive playmaker to complement the squad and challenge Cahill & AJ. Aimar? I would be happy. Anyone know what Lucho’s position is? Have Porto been throne out of the CL? does that make any difference?
We need a fair few players as we could barely put out a squad with players in their preferred positions at the moment so fingers crossed we do but it needs DM signed up before we do anything surely? You could save yourself the salary of more than £7500 a week by sacking the fat fiddler for a start.
Ver Der Meyde will be like a "new signing" this season, mark my words
New signings:
Left-back - Baines
Defensive-mid - Neville
Winger - VdM "I want to prove to myself and will knuckle down and fight for a place in the team" (fucking groundhog day to me)
Forward - Vaughan
Goalie - Jags
The rest will be loans. Therefore we won’t hear any new signings until 2 days before the season starts where the remaining unsigned up players and agents start to get desparate.
Fernandes is not a holding midfielder. Since when has he suddenly become the replacement for Carsley????
Fernandes is never gonna put his body on the line to block a shot, or sprint back 50 yards to get a tackle in like Cars did. He’s more of a playmaker than a defensive midfielder. He just likes to sit and spread his passes from deep, so that he has more time on the ball.
However, if DM can get the Carsley part of the game into Fernandes, then we’d have a proper holding midfielder who can play.
Sadly, when we lose the ball, he just looks like he can’t be arsed.
Fernandes naturally position is defensive midfield...
A lot of people seem to think he was cráp last season....and conveniently overlook the idea that Moyes played him out of position on the wing...
come to think of it..moyes plays a lot of people out of position.
That’s because he runs the squad on a shoe-string and never signs enough players to cope with the inevitable injuries/suspensions/international calls. His fault or them as are supposed to find the money???
If we rely on the ugly chuckle brother in midfield we’ll get torn a new one as he is shite there. We need players and not just one or two, the numbers are shocking but BK and KW are wasting it on that shithole in Kirkby.
I heard on the radio last night that Rangers haven’t yet completed the signing od Steve Davis.I think we should move in immediately. He’s a good tackler,he doesn’t give the ball away easily,he can pass and he has a bi of skill. In addition,he gives 100% and is a team player.I’ve seen he play a lot at international level and he looks god against the top teams.I realize he wouldn’t be the dream signing we all want but he’d be a decent addition to a threadbare squad.
Sorry,I’ve over-rated Steve Davis a bit.He actually looks good against the top teams.
I thought Steve Davis was a snooker player!!
Showing my age I guess. lol.
Speculation.... You lot need to just wait and see I reckon.
We are skint, it is as simple as that... I just hope Blue Bill sorts something out otherwise Moyes will be out the door. I wouldn’t be fuckin surprised.
We would end up with Kendall or Reid then...
Emergency noose time.
Richard Parker - you?re just wrong. In Portugal, Fernandes was seen as a Makalele type player.
You are right - he can play a bit and spot a pass - but this is more a representation of higher skill levels on the continent rather than unsuitability for any particular postition.
See the holding players at the Euros - we are wrong headed in thinking of players like Carsley as a good example - he was too slow, too last minute, too happy to lump the ball forward.
I do think that we need Fernandes but that Moyes has been playing him in the wrong role.
It might be worth keeping an eye on the Gareth Barry situation! If Liverpool pull out of buying him and Villa now seem ready to let him go? he would be an ideal replacement for Lee Carsley! and he could just be the man to win us a trophy but that would be our £12million gone?
Wouldn’t John Parrot be a better signing than Steve Davis? At least he’s a blue.
