What happens next?

There is a wide-spead assumption that should the DK project get `called in`, the whole concept is dead in the water. Indeed, Wyness has gone on record as saying that the inevitable delay will escalate the club`s contribution to a figure beyond their means. Now as a retired Town Planner, I have little doubt that `calling in` is inevitable. Amongst the guidelines for such action, the Planning Inspectorate list:-

  • Development that could have wide effects beyond its immediate locality.
  • Development that raises significant architectural and urban design issues.
  • Development where there is significant regional or national controversy.
It would seem to me that all three of these issues are present in this application and that, in comparison with the 150 or so applications called in each year, this is a `no-brainer`. Indeed, were it not to be called in, neighbouring local authorities would raise some very serious questions. Again, contrary to what we have read, the planning Inspectorate NEARLY ALWAYS holds an inquiry before the Secretary of State decides on the application.

So, if the inevitable happens, will the Club pull out or will they use the delay (up to two years) to do nothing whilst they await the outcome?

Going on their inaction following the King`s Dock fiasco, my money is on the latter!

If the latter does happen, my feeling is that the board will sit and wait. They seem to me to be very re-active and not proactive.

However, I couldn?t see Tesco sitting on their laurels. They'll go ahead anyway. Here you go Knowsley. We?ll update Kirkby Sports Stadium for you....

It is just all typical Everton. Anyone else would of had the fuckin’ stadium built already.

EVERY single thing that Everton FC do is a shambles; tickets, signing players the stadium. It has been the same for years and, in my opinion Wyness has a lot to answer for.

Like Malcom, I think it inevitable that the plans will get called in. In spite of what Wyness has said in the past, we can expect to hear that the club will hang in there:

??Whilst it is disappointing to learn that GONW have decided to call in the plans, our advisers assure us that this need not necessarily result in a protracted delay. All the partners continue to believe that the scheme offers an ideal way forward for both the Kirkby community and Everton FC and in the absence of any affordable alternative, the Board asks for your patience whilst the matter is determined.??

Who needs Ian Ross?

Yes, Mal, but do all the 150 applications called in have a £255,000 ?sweetener? attached to them? Now we know how BB spent his talent show fee ? hope it was worth it!

Oh God! The prospect of another two years of this nonsense fill me with horror. Why can?t Government office just say NO and have done with it?

I?ve got bad news for you, George. Brighton?s new stadium at Falmer was under enquiry for 5 years and still not finalised. Any luck and we?ll all be dead by the time Kirkby is reality!

The sooner this project gets called in and rejected by the government the sooner this club can sack the people responsible i.e. Wyness and get on with pursuing a future for Everton FC within the City of Liverpool or at Goodison Park site itself.

I wrote a post a short time ago in which I asked if anyone could defend Keith Wyness or Bill Kenwright. Bill came out ok but the defences of Wyness were damning in their praise. Also, I wrote a post asking if anyone at the club ever read ToffeeWeb. My reasons for doing so were really about how negative criticism could affect the players.

Now I would like to ask if anyone on the Board ever reads this site? If you do, surely to God you must realize that Kirkby is dead. Bill Kenwright strikes me as a sincere, honourable man. So Bill, stay and keep Everton in the city, or go and take Wyness with you.

The political "path of least resistance" would be a call in - the Govt have little or no political capital to be gained by simply signing it off (apart from appeasing a Labour authority ahead of Liberals) if they didn’t call it in, there’d be poilitcal fall out from LCC & Sefton - so they’ll follow the easiest path.

How long it will take & what the future holds for DK is anyones guess.

What I find strange is that LCC have waited until AFTER the original decision was expected to formally announce that they’re going to ask for a call in - wtf is that all about???

Todays news about LCC is just theatre, absolutely nothing new but just a reaffirmation of their view that the club should look at a plan B from them and reaffirming their desire (Their REAL desire? Hmm) for a call-in by Blears- all as we head into the week when we?re likely to see that big decision ? so too little, too late from LCC.

I think LCC are expecting DK to get rubber-stamped by Blears but they feel they have to do the occasional flowery publicity stunt just to keep the fanatics off their backs, it's worked because most "no" people are praising the efforts of LCC despite the fact it was Bradley who said "hands off" to the ideal Walton Hall Park location. Anderson meanwhile is a well-known "City-Regioner" who bitterly opposed our move to the Kings Dock and who said at that time stadiums should be built on the outskirts ? another example of todays news being theatre. Only 2-3 months ago Anderson was putting his name to a press release alongside Kirkby MP George Howarth, Knowsley Council leader Ron Round and Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly in promoting the Merseytram Line One from the City Centre to... Kirkby ? and we all know the only thing that would need to happen to Kirkby for a Line One to be viable to Kirkby dont we?

To be honest if its the end of the Kirkby nightmare that will do for me... although part of me resents politicians poking their noses in.
