Am I missing something?

Comments (42)

According to the Premier League website in the article with Phil Neville they say "So far the club have only confirmed the extended loan of Manuel Fernandes for next season, but Neville is not worried." I remember reading something about this a little while back too, but it was never confirmed by the club's website or anything else. Normally I would shrug this off but it coming off the Premier League website I figured it may be legit. Any ideas?

It doesnt make any sense.

If Fernandes had been signed for another year the echo etc would have been all over it and Manny would be in for pre season.

The question for me is whether or not Manny is prepared to hang around all summer for us to make our minds up. What?s to say that another season on loan at Everton or anywhere else would suit him.

Theres no truth in it. If we had signed Fernandes in loan then it would have been on the Official sites breaking news by now..I thinks its just pie in the sky bullshit to keep fans interesting in reading the Premier League website as there is nowt else happening at Everton

It also says on the OS that Phil Neville was hit on the head with pine cones by some team mates today, but don't worry; he was wearing protective headgear.

You heard it here 1st (2nd).

He’s not listed in the player profiles on the official site and Valencia are apparently preparing to sell so I’m sure this is an error by premierleague.com.

I just hope we get him in reasonably early and get him settled. A pre-season under his belt is key as is bonding with the team.

I’d be happy with a loan but a permanant deal would be best for him, Everton and Valencia. We’d be able to see his undoubted talent, they’d get him off there books and Fernandes himself would have a home. He’d have stability and he’d feel wanted. We need to stop messing with him and end this. Either sign him or don’t.

Do you think Neville said the line about the players coming back being like new signings with a straight face? It is a line often used here on TW in jest but he can’t seriously think that this is what us fans want to hear?!

Maybe he was still a little dazed after being hit on the head with the pine cones?!

Phil Neville is basically the club's ?yes-man?... The club send him out because he deals with the media hounds the best so that's why we hear him every five minutes and anyway I don't know why they are asking him about possible signings, shouldn't they be asking the manager or our chairman. (Haven't heard from him for a while have we? Strange that...)

I have a terrible feeling the ?Neville Influence?could become even greater at Everton. If the unthinkable happens and Moyes ?takes a walk?, I suspect that Blue Bill will give Captain Marvel his first opportunity in management... Strictly in the interests of continuity, of course!

Whats the chances of an article in the coming weeks on Andy VdM latest attempt to be re-born again as a first team player?...I bet that would be like just a new signing too!!!

Re: Fernandes I took a look in the spanish media and at the CF Valencia site ( I speak a bit of spanish) - theres no sign of news of a confirmed loan or impending transfer that I could find. Maybe he is still on holidays as Valencia haven’t started back yet?

Also lots of Valencia players are for sale something like 11- mostly international players too...Abelda as a Carsley replacement anyone?

Premier League unlikely to get it right, they’re (the FA) a shambles. On that note, Simon Jordan is a complete ponce but he’s 100% right on his criticism of the FA and their valuation of Bostock. How can they be expected to develop the next generation of British talent when they unearth a potential gem only to have him snatched for a paltry £700k.

If he was signed, loan or otherwise, it would be straight up on the OS as the club are only too aware of the growing frustration of fans regarding new signings.

As far as Neville is concerned, what do you expect him to say.

"This is not good enough and we need more players. I don?t know what the manager and the board are doing about it. Frankly, it?s all a pile of shit and I?m off"

I don?t think so either.

In 10 years time if Glen Johnson has 6 Premier League medals,1 Europeon Cup, 3 FA Cup medals, 59 england caps(or more), and played for two of the most succesful teams in English football then I'll accept Glen Johnson is better.

Neville could hack it at the top level for a long period of time an d I still think he can; Johnson was a Chelsea reject.

Just reading on the Echo website that St Helens have been granted permission to build a new stadium. It was looked at by GONW but they decided not to call it in.

Included in the plan is a 140,000 sq ft Tesco Extra.

Not that far away from Kirkby !! Can Tesco pull it off twice ?? Let’s hope not !!!

PN is shite. Sorry Shite (with a capital S).
It is a sorry state that he is our club captain. I don’t care how many medals he’s got. He them for basically being Fergie’s arse scratcher and is the biggest brown noser I know. He was a bit player at Utd. His England caps were for his versatility and not for his footballing skills.

As a right back as a midfielder; take your pick. He is qually poor in both positions.

What is frustrating is that there are better players at the club.

I’m with Tom on this one.
I think Neville is the model pro. He is an unsung hero as far as i’m concerned and i think we would be a poorer team without him.
On the other subject. Stop moaning about not signing anyone.
I posted on here a few weeks ago that we will end up with the usual couple of prem rejects and the obligitory loan signing.
WAKE UP ! WE HAVE GOT NO MONEY!
We can’t compete with the big 3 and a fair few of the others, it’s called investment and we have none.
Loans from banks and mortgages is how we survive, as well as selling our best assets.
You will just have to accept that this is the Everton way at present.

To anwer the original question the PL site have nicked that piece from Setanta (it was word for word) & Setanta have obviously got it wrong.

Barry / Tom- PN is absolute shite in midfield - but to be fair he’s a decent fullback - Moyes should have the balls to tell him that 2 decent performances vs Patrick Viera for Utd years ago - doesn’t make him the new Makelele.

Say what you like about PN, I’m indifferent, but what’s all this nonsense about Glen Johnson being a better player? WIthout doubt, Glen Johnson is the poorest defender I have seen for many years. Do you remember him as a rabbit in the headlights for Chelsea? He panicks, makes stupid mistakes and his no bottle. He can’t hack the pressure, which is something you could never say of PN.

Tom.
We will agree to disagree here mate. IMO PN is a poor player. One or two average games or talking a good game do not qualify as a good player. He is a model pro. Without doubt you couldn’t get a better trainer or professional player at our club, but does that really put him in the Kevin Ratcliffe or Dave Watson bracket?

If "hard work" is what I’m paying to watch then maybe I should pay £30 quid to go down a coal mine and watch the miners do their job on a Saturday afternoon? But then maybe they couldn’t be arsed to tell the media how good they and their fellow workers are before or after a shift.....

One other thing: I’m not negative. I think we have got the best manager in the league. I think we are a club on the up. I think we are going to have a good shout in Europe and in the cup competitions this year. I love the club and for that reason IMO we should have a better player as our club captain.

Phil Neville - piss poor midfielder, decent full back, good captain and a great influence on & off the field. We’d be in a far worse state without him and he deserves alot of credit for where we are today. All top managers will tell you they need eyes & ears on the pitch, and thats what Phil Neville is for David Moyes - all the bitching about him is unfair and he deserves both credit & respect for his efforts since we signed him.

He may be poor in midfield but thats because he’s only really ever filled in there and is a full-back; a bloody good one in my opinion.

Just had a look at the official site for some clarification on this matter. It’s no help!
Fernandes is NOT on the official squad list.

However

Look on the transfers out section of the official site, Gardner and Graveson are both listed as ’Loan Ended’, Fernandes isn’t there.

Also, look on the past players section. Gardner features in past defenders but Fernandes doesn’t appear anywhere.

Does that mean that .....

a) The person who runs the official site has dropped a bollock
b)He’s coming back on loan as in the article but it hasn’t been announced yet
c)We’re still trying to sign him and the kit delay is to announce his signing
d)We should stop guessing!!

Like it - or him - or not, Capn Pip’s time at EFC has coincided with our best run of results in 20 years. Fair criticism is good, and things could be better, but some facts shouldn’t be ignored when playing the what might have been game.

And I’m looking everywhere I can here in Spain for news of Fernandes - nothing yet. But my bet was that DM wouldn’t have let Cars go if he didn’t have Manny. I could still be right.

And - if Andy VDM did a Lazarus, and performed anything like he can, that would actually be a new player on the field for nothing more than we’re paying already. I suspect that it will turn out to be a case of Jesus wept, again.
