The worst that can happen

Comments (18)

So, Phil Neville thinks the squad's okay. I disagree... but admire him for saying what a captain should say. But suppose there really is no money ? what's the worst that can happen?

Let's assume that we get Manny on loan and take it from there. Tim Howard in goal with two decent young goalkeepers as back-up; not a disaster.

Gosling at right-back, Baines at left-back and Yobo and Lescott (playing where he wants) in the centre of defence. DM forced into playing a footballing and attacking back four. For cover we have Neville, Hibbert (when fit), Jagielka, Nuno Valente and Rodwell. Seems okay to me.

Now, midfield. VDM wide right (he will come good); Arteta in central midfield (DM forced into playing him where he is best); Fernandes playing in the holding role (where he is best) and Pienaar.

Up front the Yak and AJ (the combination we should always start with). That leaves Cahiil (and the option to play 4-5-1) Osman and Neville. With Victor and James Vaughan up front for cover. AJ can play wide if necessary. In emergency, Jagielka can have another shot in midfield.

Okay it's not what I want but it's not the end of the world. Time to stop the doom and gloom.

Write out one thousand times:

I will not sniff glue..........

Van Der Meyde will come good, and Moyes play 4-4-2 attacking football

ha ha ha ha ha

Shandy hasn’t played 90 mins in one game for us yet and that may even include for the reserves, and DM loves 4-5-1 ultra conservative football so expect Phil Chuckle as "the new Carsley"

so the worst that could happen is stagnation and the loss of momentum, football doesn’t stay still but we appear to be

’Van der Meyde will come good’ ?????

Wh are you? His Agent or Coco the Clown?

There is,as your analysis shows, a gaping hole in midfield ( where Neville must never, ever be allowed to play ) and a lack of numbers generally to cover the UEFA cup games and any other sort of Cup run.

We need at least 5 players just to replace Wessels,Carsley, McFadden, Gravesen and the injured Hibbert and that’s if Arteta, Cahill and Yobo are available.

Jags on the bench? Are you mad!? He is the new Kevin Ratcliffe. Reads the game like a dream. Blocks shots lightning would not reach in time. 1st choice central defender in the league.

I think he is quite good...

Sorry Andy but this article doesn’t really feel me with optimism. Especially this line.."For cover we have Neville, Hibbert (when fit), Jagielka, Nuno Valente and Rodwell." God help us if this turns out to be our cover.

Staying positive’s one thing mate, but Gosling as fist choice right back? I think most have us have seen more of Van Der Meyde than Gosling! I’m sure he’ll be good in time, but he hasn’t made it on off the bench yet.

Jagielka the new Kevin Ratcliffe ?

Hehehehehehehehehehehe

Hahahahahahahahahahaha

The prime mover in hoofball. Lashes the ball anywhere. And thoroughly embarrassing against Arsenal.

Can I have some of whatever you are taking.

John Andrews, Ratcliffe wasn’t a gifted footballer. He used to give the ball away alot and was prone to the odd hoof here and there.

He was just an excellent defender. Lightening fast, read the game well and was good in the air. One of the most effective players I’ve seen despite being so limited.

Say what you want about Jags but he is a superb defender. In terms of out and out defending he’s the best at the club. I loved the way you pick out one game to have a swipe at him. Ever since he came into the defense we have improved.

Look at all the clean sheets. He’s a quality defender.

Connor, I totally agree that Ratcliffe was prone to the ODD hoof here and there.
Unfortunately Jagielka is prone to more than the odd hoof. Every time he gets the ball there is the distinct likelihood that it will be a long punt upfield.
This may also culminate in one of Johnsons problems in that he is forever chasing long punts upfield supplied by.........no less than Jagielka !
We have also witnessed Jagielkas prowess in the air. Arsenal ?

John Andrews, if you look at the stats Jag’s distribution and pass completion is very similar to Yobo and Lescott. There’s isn’t much difference despite what people think. All three have a tendency to hoof the ball.

Johnson’s chases balls into the corner flag because he’s an average player. He hasn’t got a brain and there’s no other way to play to him. Do you give it to his feet? No because he miscontrols it concedes possession. There’s only one way to play to him and that’s booting the ball into the corner flag.

You’ve picked one game where Jagielka struggled. Other than that game there where very few where he was poor. He’s in superb form and deserves credit.

He’s brought alot to our defense. He’s an out and out gritty defender in the Stubbs mould and that is needed. We saw the likes of Lescott and Yobo struggling at the back at the start of the defender because they lacked a talker. Jagielka came in and seemed to solve all the problems.

Quality defender, good player and an excellent guy.

For the love of god!!!! Andy Van Der Meyde will never never never come good. Let us pretend that he no longer plays for Everton, because he never will.......well maybe in the carling cup against League 2 opposition and even then he will still probably be crap!

We shall have to beg to differ Connor.
But I do disagree that Johnson is an average player. I think it is because he is being made to look an average player by our defence.
At the risk of repetition unless the ball is played either to him or in front of him then he will remain looking an average player.
I do not recall either Yobo or Lescott looking either uncomfortable or struggling at the start of the season. And, in my opinion, Jagielka has added nothing to the team.
Mind you I had the privilege of seeing Jagielka at Crystal Palace. Nuff said !

VDM has took the piss out of our club since the day he got here.

By the time he leaves he will have cost us around £6 million.

That would be ok if he had actually contributed, but he’s done fuck all. The sooner we stop talking about him as if he’s some unfortunate injury prone kid, and see him for what he really is the better.

Each and every time i hear his name mentioned inside GP i’ll be booing at the top of my voice.

IMO Jagielka is an excellent defender but is still behind yobo/lescott in the pecking order. At least we have quality cover for a couple of positions though

I tend to agree with most of the comments on here that it is a long shot for Van der Meyde to come good.... I would like to think he could though because he is an undoubted talent at his best.

No-one who knows football can criticise Phil Jagielka after the season he has had and he is an ideal replacement for Alan Stubbs. He reads the game much better than Yobo.

As for signings .... We need plenty of them and in my opinion we need a Right back, a goal keeper, a central defender, two central midfielders and a striker.... possibly two if AJ is sold.

Also a left winger would be nice.

So if Moyesey would like to put all them on his shoppin list iIwill be more than happy =]
