Transfers

Looks like we missed out on signing boyhood Evertonian Robbie Fowler as well. Transfer speculation... I mean come on let's all get a bit real. I'm fairly sure the media will have no idea who Dave is really after and when the new players are signed some fans will reject them for being nobodies. These players will no doubt reveal themselves as hidden gems and be capped for England by the time the season is out, aka the normal pattern.

Ok, this does it for me! I am familiar with these pages and I knew that there would always be comments about the lack of transfer activities and I didn't see a need to add to that. But the latest Echo report and Cpt Neville comments was a step too far for me. If the PR machine of the club is telling you to forget about signings, then you can FORGET IT!!

In all our wildest dream, the club would make a sensational announcement one day that the manager and 3 world-class players have signed a contract and season ticket sales will rise thru the roof. We will upstage the RS and finish in the top four.

FORGET IT! It's not happening. Our transfer activities have been restricted to a failed bid for a unproven teenager and a career 2nd choice keeper on loan.

Whatever BK and DM talk about in their 10-15 calls a day.... it ain't about signing new players. Even if it is, it goes something like this:

DM: Hey Billy boy, I want to sign XYZ before I sign my new contract.

BK:Hey Davey boy, I ain't got the money but I am answering calls from 20 different countries 24/7 to take over this club.

DM: Well...how come no-one is buying us yet if you have 20 calls a day from all round the world.?

BK: Beats me. I am only a fan, i don't know how to run this club. Why don't you give a call to Alex Ferguson, there is always someone he wants to get rid of... Or maybe Stubbs/Pistone/Weir/Gravesen wants to return on a free?

I know that there are some who will say that I have lost it and that i should be patient. Well, how the hell can I be when we are one of the last to NOT have signed even a youth player in mid-July!!

Charlton reached their peak by finishing in the top ten for a couple of seasons. Boro reached their peak with those cup finals. Bolton..... well who cares about them! My point is, we may have reached ours already. I am hoping with all my birthday and Christmas wishes combined that there is more to come for this club of ours but I am afraid .... really afraid.

Get a grip.

Kenwright may be a cabbage, Wyness a dodgy, dodgy Estate Agent, but Moyesie will sort it. Even with a budget of £4m ( all from sales ) in 2004 he still found us Cahill and Bent and we all know what followed.

If he can do that, he’ll get a result this time even with limited cash. It’s when it’s been freely available he’s not done so well.... Beattie, Ferrari, Van der Meyde, Davies, all came when money was readily available.

Maybe he’s better in a corner?

Yes well Moyes didnt sign us a striker or a replacement for Gravesen when we finished 4th did he. We all placed our faith in him and he let us down. A chance of a lifetime went begging.

Was Steve Round signed as an assistant to Moyes or was there an ulterior motive?
I just love conspiracy theories don’t you.

Time to stop worrying. I’ve got this friend, right. Well last week he was abducted by aliens who have bugged Moysies office. They told him that they have heard Moysie talking to Blue Bill and we are definitely signing Manny, Arshevin is going to quit Zenit and will sign for us on a free, and Pele has found the fountain of youth and will be at Goodison within the week to sign terms.

Oh yeah and Bill Gates has decided not to give his fortune to charity, he is giving it all to DM so he can buy Everton and take us all the way to the top.

And my friend never lies.

I am getting desperate for some news like everybody else but would our new assistant have signed if we could not afford players? Would we have signed him instead of players?

If the signings of the teams below us WORK then they will catch up. If not our squad is OK but a bit short of numbers. 3 or 4 more players of the standard we have now would have got us fourth last season.
I think we would have to spend a lot to win the league but I don’t think we are that far from the top four.
Benitez has spent 100 billion since he got the job and has yet to win the league which shows that no amount of money will substitute for ability and not all foreign managers are that good.

Moyes has made it clear that it might take a long while yet to build back to the very top level. Fourth or fifth with a cup win would do very nicely for next season.

Positively looking forwards.

Don't laugh, don't scold, but I just read City are willing to let Samaras go at a knock down price. I've seen this boy play, GREAT touch and skill for a big man, but lazy. What better coach to turn that around that Moyesy?? He was second fiddle to Vennegor of Hesslink and McDonald at Celtic on loan, and still as a sub scored a bag of goals.

We have no money, could use a tall striker for Yak to feed off, he is cheap, tall, good in the air, great at control and lay-off..... so Moyesy works on his work ethic and we could have a bargain!!!

Gary Tan,

I do it. You’ve lost it.

The PR machine ? Surely this is the invention of a paranoid lunatic. Does anyone really (really?) believe that the powers that be sit round a table and decide that they’ll ask the club captain to break it to the fans that there will be no new signings ?

That, I’m sorry to say, is laughable, childish nonsense.

We have this lunacy every summer. We had it last summer and ended up breaking our transfer record for the second year running. Will you people never learn ? Just chill out and let the manager get on with his job.

Dennis Karanik - ’Samaras, big but lazy’

That would be good with the Yak up front, all we’d have to do is buy them a couple of sunbeds & some cocktails. That would be great watching them ’Lounge around’ up front all afternoon !!!

James Braid - Good point BUT when we qualified for the CL we didn’t strenghten so there is evidence for both the ’prosecution & the defence’ of our recent transfer record.
I think most fans would chill if they thought the manager was being given the funds to ’get on with his job’.
It’s NOT Moyes I worry about but ’ Bill I don’t know what I’m doing, I’m only the chairmen ( lend us a fiver Robert ) Kenright’

What is starting to bother me is that Tottenham, City & Villa have more or less got there main men or have filled in there replacements. We have not replaced what has already left.Missed out on 1 or 2 targets ie Engelaar , Huddleston and Moyes has still not signed his contract.
I do beleive that there will be players coming in but it will be when the Sky money comes which is when we got the Yak.

BK is taking this club to nowhere. Moyes is a man of principal and will walk at the end of the season if not pushed before.
There is no money BK is a totally useless prat who couldn’t run a raffle. Moyes has had enough .

Everybody overlooks the fact that for the last third of the season we were absolute crap and there is no guarantee that the run wont continue in August. The squad was found sadly wanting and there is absolutely no reason why players who are not up to putting a full season in should be any different next time.Just tell me when the great heroes, Cahill and Arteta did it last?Just when will the midget Baines ever be fully fit? Will Vaughan ever string half-a-dozen games together?I could go on.
I’m telling you, Moyes will need more than the £10M he’s asking for AJ to get this lot back on song-and dont start me on bloody Kirkby!

Alan Simmonds,

Have you overlooked the fact that for the first two thirds of the season we were excellent. The best we’ve been in years. We ran out of gas because of injuries to key players, not because we’re shite.

I’m guessing you’re very much a ’glass half empty’ person ? Calm yourself down and trust Moyes to do his job. Do you think he’d have appointed an assistant manager (who spoke glowingly of the vision and plans Moyes had for the club) , if he wasn’t sure that he could sign the players he wants .

And no-one is starting you on Kirkby. No-one in this thread had even mentioned it until you did (and now me, in response).

Sounds to me like you’re desperate to have bit of a moan.

The reality is we’ve already lost almost half the squad that scraped over the line to get 5th having held 4th for a lot of the season.

No other teams around us have reduced their squad in fact quite a few have beefed them up so far.

But to put it into context we have lost Carsley,Fernandes,Stubbs,Graveson,McFadden,Davies and Wessels and the only current replacement we’re currently in for is a GK that cant play until September and will be on loan.

Now this is not Glass half empty its almost Glass totally empty.

Nail on the head Jay - just to get to the numbers we had never mind add quality would mean the signing or loan of 6 players (given the keeper loan is in hand) that would be a trick of biblical proportions. To add to that we have Cahill with his injury prone foot, Vaughan, who I would love to see have a long run, having spent more time injured than playing, Hibbert missing from the start of the season, Baines prone to injury, an aging Valente who must surely not be considered beyond a squad player snf our numbers look very shaky - we couldn’t even scratch a squad together to play two friendlies on the same day.

I am not saying that I don’t think we need signings - we do need new faces and or squad is to thin right now.

But come on Jay, Stubbs, Gravesen, Davies and Wessels were alle squad filling, we should be able to replace them easily when the transfer deadline comes. Fernandes only played up to his normal games the last 5 matches or so. McFadden hardly cut it for us, although I admit that we really could have used him early in 2008. Carsley is the only first team player that left us, all the others were squad players or below their normal level. If the glass was almost totally empty then Arteta AJ Yakubu Lescott JAgielka Yobo Pienaar etc would have been gone.

Again, I’m not saying we don’t need more players, we obviously do. But I think you’re overreacting a bit.

Jay,

You forgot Anthony Gardner.

Seriously, we’ve lost Gravesen and Stubbs ? How will we cope without them.

Erm, we did. For virtually the whole season.

There is plenty of time to go yet. Moyes is back from Sion this week and knows what we need and how many. Clubs are only now starting to sign players and, if I’m not mistaken, it was late on last summer before we started signing players.

I’m as impatient as anyone when it comes to new signings. I hoped they’d all be in the day after last season ended. But the annual bout of hysteria (yep, happens every summer without fail) is reaching ridiculous levels.
