Summer of Discontent

Comments (19)

Been a while since my last contribution. Still visit the site daily. The mood in recent weeks has plumetted. Just wondering - with or without reason?

I do not normally read Pravda... you may know it as the Liverpool Echo... but when Everton's mouthpiece David Prentice starts to make noises, it is indeed time to be concerned. Let's not descend into 'doomonger' or 'naive clown' name-calling... let's keep it to the facts.

David Moyes has not signed his contract. More importantly (and worringly) he has not uttered a word to press and fans alike since his post summer break return. The statement on AJ last Sunday was a release via the club quoting Moyes.

Given that there's always something to say on return to pre-season and he has a new Number 2... this is decidedly odd. I am now concerned. Those who thereby brand me a doomonger... please also take time to explain the above FACTS and how these factors would not impinge on Moyes acquring players.

It seems every time our club is on the brink of something good or even great, fate seems to intervene and send us back into the field of also rans. Sometimes it is circumstances beyond our control. More often than not we shoot ourselves in the foot. Whether it be the Kings Dock debacle or this 'move' to Kirkby. We seem to perenially set ourselves up to be the butt of every Kopit joke in true Laurel and Hardy fashion. Now something else isn't right at our club and to me the fact that Moyes has not signed a new contract says that the money for transfers is just not there. This has probably been the case for some time hence the frustration voiced after our UEFA cup exit and the need for that special player. We had all hoped it would be Arshavin and now that he is way beyond our impoverished pockets, Moyes must be thinking step aside Sir Alex I'm on my way. To his credit Kenwright brought Moyes to the club, but if he goes purely because of the financial frustrations, then the buck stops purely with him. His inability to attract new investment at a time when investors should have been battering down the doors and the amateurish plans for KIrkby are also down to him and Wyness. I wonder whether the global credit crunch means we have already missed the boat on that score. I just hope for Kenwright's sake (and to be honest I do like him) that Moyes does stay. The backlash against him will be huge if he goes. Come on Kenwright 'why don't you just do something to help us!'

It is going to take a catastrophe such as David Moyes walking away because of a lack of money before every Evertonian wakes up to the fool running this club. Kenwright has done enough, move over please.

When, oh when, will you all learn? Davey has nothing to say until he has something to say! All in good time we shall hear news of half a dozen quality signings, confirmation of a signed extended contract ? although not of the length we would like ? and affirmation of our move to Kirkby.
Just have patience, will you!

Wish I had your optimism, Doddy! A Goodison insider told me that Davey keeps changing his mind about his priority signings and this is driving Wyness mental. He?s put in bids for three or four players only to be told to cool it.What a bloody Fred Karno?s!

You?re sticking your neck out there, George, didn?t you know Moyes is the best manager in the history of the world and it?s all Kenwright?s fault?

The article I have posted the link to is from August last year, Deja vu? ? it's a typical pre-season article:

What is that smell? Could it be the approaching stench of a twelth-place finish in a season dominated by ?Kenwright/Wyness Out? chants?

I seriously fucking hope not.

George its probably because DM wants to shop at Harrod’s and then finds out Wyness is shopping at Tesco’s.

Then:

Bill; sorry you have to go Walter, but the fans are on my back, you know how it is? BTW any ideas on an up and coming coach who would think the job is a step up?.

Walter; There’s this guy David Moyes at PNE, no great shakes as a player, late 30’s seems to be well thought of.....

Now:

Bill; sorry you have to go Dave, but Tesco is on my back, you know how it is? BTW, any ideas on an up and coming coach who would think the job is a step up?.

Dave; Well there’s this guy Steve Round..........

Doddy it?s all well and good coming on here telling everyone nothing is wrong in the camp when everything they do turns into a long running farce, from kits to new signings.

EVERYONE who we are competing with have bought new players, Not EVERYONE has lost as many first team players as us and I include McFadden in that too, so by the time we get all those big signings we will be looking at October before they settle, if we get the the usual two days before the big kick off, add to the fact the club remains silent on what is going on with our manager despite even the local paper now questioning it, plus season tickets down and Captain Marvel preaching the usual shit that getting our injured players back is like four new signings.

And today no doubt we will get more shit that Shandy played 90 mins and means business they think we are all clueless with the utter garbage they throw at us, but not to worry eh! just go and get my Sundays to see who else everyone has bought and who is buying our striker.

I just don’t build my hopes up anymore. I’m intrigued to see how we can actually play out a season in 4 competitions with only 17 first team players of which 2 or 3 only ever play half a season. I now look at the gossip pages to see whether KW is thinking of selling anyone else rather than who we might sign.

On the plus side though, Spurs fans must be up in arms too as it looks like their only 2 decent players are being sold this summer and Blackburn have just signed Robbie Fowler! Portsmouth have signed that lankey donkey, Crouch and City have signed his Brazilian equivalent, Jo. Villa are losing their best player and have signed a very mediocre replacement in Sidwell. Have the teams around us actually strengthened?

If I read another "reliable source" quote this summer, I think I will eat my own fuckin leg....

None of us know dick about what is going on...

Having said that.... a reliable source has told me David Moyes will sport blond highlights for this seasons opener...

Jesus Christ. Anyone would think we were still perennial relegation fodder. We have just achieved our record Prem points total, had good runs in two cups and people on here are talking about "top ten at best"!

We didn’t strengthen til late on in last years window, but we DID strengthen, and as for Moyes contract it will all be signed in the next fortnight according to the NOTW. And before you knock this as a source, at least it IS a source rather than just "insider information".

Congratulations to Arthur Jones for posting that link to an article from last year. Made me laugh how wrong the doom merchants were. Granted, they say hindsight is 20-20 vision, but I have faith that the same will happen this year because I woud rather get behind the club than constantly knock it.

I am more and more convinced that DM will soon be SAF’s No.2 at Manure. It has been on the cards for some time that Quieroz was in line for the Portugal job. Moyes stalling on the contract bought him time to see how things panned put on the transfer pot/Kirkby saga/Quieroz front. Now that things are becoming clearer I think he will jump ship, and I can’t say I blame him.

As yet, it is not the transfers I am worried about. People laughably point to other clubs but the reality is it is only a handful who have completed eye-catching deals. Even those that have spent have only bought one or two players. There is no wholesale activity so as yet we are NOT being left behind.

What does bother me is that the manager has not signed his contract. The fact is that the most important players at the club are those that are already here i.e. Arteta and Cahill. These players appear (to outsiders like us supporters) to have a strong relationship with the manager. If this holds true then the manager’s failure to commit himself to the club cannot be positive for their state of mind. I want the manager to sign the contract and send out a strong signal to players and fans alike. If he is holding back because the Chairman will not provide the transfer budget he needs to build around Cahill and Arteta then the Chairman will take a big share of the responsibility should the club regress in the coming season.

Amit, Spurs, City, Pompey plus lower clubs have all added well to their squads, we have not and in turn lost one of our most vital players at the club in the past 5 years. Also McFadden, Manny plus a few like Gravesen and Wessels who obviously did jack shit anyway, but it?s the numbers and we are quite a bit behind. Plus it looks like AJ is going soon too, so we are talking making at least 4 good new signings if we want to progress and keep ahead of the pack chasing us.

It's the annual panic buying time ie, the summer; Moyes knows who will add to the team dynamics and who he wants. Let DM get on with what he is paid an incredible amount to do and very well ? he won't let us down.
Keep the faith.
