Time for ToffeeWeb to act?

Comments (5)

A while ago, I posted a letter on the site in which I asked if there was any evidence that anyone at the club looked at the site. I felt that if this was the case, then the confidence of some players could be badly dented by what is written here.

I do feel however that the Everton Board of Directors would learn a great deal by reading on a regular basis. It would seem that this is not the case, therefore I would like to suggest that Michael, Colm, and Lyndon take the site to the board. Now I know that Michael stated recently (in response to accusations of bias against ToffeeWeb) that this was not a campaigning site; but I am not asking for a campaign.

There are probably hundreds of regular posters on the site and thousands of regular readers. The views, while passionate, are generally articulate, well argued and pertinent. I think that gives the editorial team a mandate. So how about an interview with Bill Kenwright or Keith Wyness. If they don't want to talk then publish your correspondence with them and let the Evertonians who enjoy this site and who spend good money supporting the club decide what we think of them.

I have said before that I believe Bill Kenwright to be a sincere well-meaning Evertonian. If he won't talk to us then I'm prepared to change my mind on that.

This is, in my view, the most important close season we have ever had. We need some answers from the board. Michael, I am not asking you to campaign but please use the influence that you undoubtedly have and get an interview with blue Bill. (Take Tony Marsh with you!)

Hey Andy... what a great idea... and we could ask him highly pertinent questions... like:

1) Bill, Why are we not represented with a bigger presence in the City?

2) Bill, are you looking to sell EFC?

3) Bill, what can you do to make Everton seem like a viable attractive proposition for any prospective purchaser?

4) Bill, what about the planning and infrastructure needed to move to Kirkby?

5) Bill, Will David Moyes be signing a new contract, what's been the delay?

6) Will Arteta be sold?

7) Will AJ be sold?

Oh wait... you know what? I think he's been asked all those questions just recently (well, not the last one!). Maybe I'm prejudging here but something tells me his answers to us would not be even half as illuminating as they were at ESCLA on July 5...

Michael, I understand your response to the posting but I actually think it would be a great idea for you (or somebody from ToffeeWeb) to hold a one-on-one interview with BK and post the results here. You could even have interviews with DM and others.

It could become a good annual pre-season thing, a great coup for ToffeeWeb and even if the answers were covered in the proverbial BS I still think it would a good idea. Ask the right questions and insist on getting a clear answer.

As Andy said this site is read by thousands of EFC fans worldwide and I?m sure they would relish the results. I stress that I wouldn?t expect some fantastic, groundbreaking news from him but I would still want to see the outcome.

Ladies and gents, the only people able to get interviews with KW have to only ask questions he provides - slimy lying bastard that he is. BK from his recent exploits at the London event would no doubt steer clear of any pointed questions and no doubt either demand a list of the questions beforehand or be a no show. DM would have to be careful in his responses in case they are misinterpreted as pro or anti board. As nice an idea as this is I can’t see it happening.

Martin, I can look back on numerous occasions over the past 15 years I?ve been on this gig, when the fans have convinced themselves that the custodians were going to be ?put on the spot? with pertinent questions of concern and forced to provide clear answers... it never ever happens!

Look at all the AGMs EGMs, Fans Focus meetings... plenty are archived on this website and they have one common thread: obfuscation, deflection, denial, disinformation... lies by any other name. And the upcoming EGM, you can bet the house on it, will be just exactly the same.

Everton FC Co Ltd is not a democratic entity, it is not answerable to the fans, whatever rhetoric you may hear. The fans are merely punters who neeed to pay up for the priviledge of supporting the team, and make their voices heard only from the stands during the game. That is the largley contemptuous view the fans are held in, summed up perfectly by Ian Ross?s classic put-down of "drunken knobhead Evertonians". People's Club? My arse!

Direct communication with any of them is frankly pointless. We would get plenty of flannel and positive spin but no straight answers to anything meaningful. They just do not see it as being in their interest to involve the fans in any meaningful way or be honest with them. Surley the whole Destination Kirky episode has proved that beyond any shadow of a doubt?

Again, I appreciate where you?re coming from Michael but I was more inclined to look forward than backwards (I?m not aware of any archival evidence on this site because I haven?t looked for it).

I do think now more than ever that an interview with the likes of BK would be appealing...if it serves to cement in everybody?s opinion that he?s the liar everybody, or a lot of people at any rate, seems to think he is...........then fair enough....I would stress that any questions to him need to address the very issues we are ALL concerned with.....okay he can lie with his answers but at least put the question to him.

I might be the only one but I was totally confused by the feedback from the recent AGM (is that what it was? A meeting anyway!) where the differing feedback on this site from those that were actually present was totally confusing.
How can people at the same meeting have totally different opinions/feedback?

Anyway, complain again about BK all you want.....I still think it?s a good idea.

One quick point.....you suggest that the whole DK issue should prove beyond a doubt that an interview would be a waste......possibly....but I take the view that if you sat down with the guy and asked him the very questions we?d all like answers to (in large part related to DK of course) ..... you just never know what might come out of it.

Martin, you say you understand where I?m coming form but I think you are missing the fundamental point. It?s been done before and it leads nowhere.

Please look again carefully at the first response above. It lists six simple and direct questions that were put to Bill Kenwright in a Q&A session at a meeting of Everton Supporters Club London Area (ESCLA) ? not an AGM.

Start with the first post by Graeme, that was a genuine attempt to convey his responses. Now I understand that the resulting thread prompted a variety of illuminations, from those who amplified the ridiculous nature of Bill?s responses, and his contempt for the questioners, to those who defended Bill?s somewhat less than clear answers on the dubious premise of "What else would you expect him to say?"

How would it differ if we (or anybody) were to ask the same or indeed any "awkward" questions directly to BK?

You say, "you just never know what might come out of it." The whole point is, from this very recent experinence, we know exactly what would come of it.
