A Day Turns Into A Week!!!

Comments (14)

According to todays Post, the Kirkby 'desicion' won't be made until next week. Odd that, as I thought the politicians are all on holiday for 11 weeks from this Wednesday, I may be wrong.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw this thread open for any wild theories, speculation, or 'my next door neigbours brother said that the reason was....' comments as to why this delay has occered.

My tuppence worth is perhaps the government are waiting for EFC to validate the EGM petition numbers, and if indeed an EGM is granted, it will indeed be 'called in'. However, this is pure speculation ion my behalf.

Is it a plot to sweep things under the carpet in the hope that if it is ignored long enough, it will go away? Or is it the usual government incompetence?

It suggests that it rests on a knife edge.

Therefore, anybody with objections should be making themselves heard to Baroness Andrews and GONW as much as they can.

Especially, local residents or businesses in neighbouring boroughs who think it will be too big and therefore unfair on them. Perhaps somebody can publish the e-mail addresses again and anybody who wants to object should do - politely of course!

So it'll be another week until we hear from the Department for Communities and Local Government about Kirkby and I'm assuming that a lot of what may or may not be happening transfer-wise hinges on what they have to say.

In the meantime, we've heard from Moyes, Lescott and now Neville about the desperate need to strengthen the squad. Add to this the palpable unrest coming from what now has to be the vast majority of fans ? a large portion already peeved with the ground move situation ? and we've got a total melt-down looming, threatening to put to waste all the team's efforts of the past couple of seasons.

Time to stop talking up moves for one £18M marquee player and get in the realistic reinforcements that everyone knows we need - go get M'Bia, Simon Rolfes, Nikola Zigic, Stephen Hunt, Joe Ledley, this Vlad Stojkovic and Fernandes back on loan signed then see what sort of change we have left over to chase rainbows with... I really do wish that the powers that be would pull their finger out and get some signings in.

Its Government thats going on holiday not the civil servants in Whitehall. My guess is that the civil servants are scrambling to find a way of NOT calling in Kirkby despite the obvious breaking of planning guidelines. There must have been intense lobbying from Tesco and their allies to bring about this travesty . I’m afraid its going to the green light on the road to disaster for EFC.

The Everton EGM is very unlikely to have any bearing at all on whether DK is called in. This is all about the retail development, Tesco, the LCC, shopping provision in the greater Merseyside area, jobs, and the politics of the Labour Party. If it gets called in it will not be because of objections to Everton’s stadium; if it doesn’t get called in, it will not be a sign of support for the stadium. Write and lobby all you like - but this really isn’t about us.

I have copied this verbatum from the KEIOC website. I hope this is ok mods.

"KEIOC sources in the Government have revealed that due to behind the scenes legal wrangling concerning the wording of the decision, and the possibility of legal action from applicants and objectors, the decision has been delayed whilst these issues are addressed"

This sounds to me that they have already made their minds up, and they are just trying to find ways to cover their arses with what will likely be a controversial decision. But controversial in what way?

Neil Pearse,

Although I started this thread with my assumptions, on second thoughts I actually agree with what your saying.

So if DK is ’called in’ it could be the end of DK due to the delay ! .. By the same logic - if they keep postponing the decision on ’calling in’ DK then it could be the end of DK... so I support the delay :-)

So is it being suggested that even if it’s a yes, or a no, the decision may be subject to legal appeal etc by those on the "losing" side? e.g., Tesco, or Grosvenor (who seem to have units still to let in L1)

As for date of announcement, my guess is this afternoon (last day of parliament) or Friday so they can head for the hills to escape the nuclear fall-out.

A delay may indicate a pass with stipulations.

I think that the stadium won’t be called in, but the stipulations and requirements enforced in the decision will be too costly for EFC/Tesco/KMBC to bear. The transport situation is probably the most terrifying aspect of this move - it is woefully inadequate and the govt may want assurances that this is sorted; something which EFC/Tesco/KMBC can’t deliver on.

Neil Pearse, the last six words of your post say it all.

That’s been the most numbing aspect of this whole caper.

I can tell you with absolute authority that GO have indicated to Knowsley MC that they ?are minded? to allow DK ?subject to stringent undertakings being forthcoming from all the parties involved?. Due to their complexity, these undertakings have not yet been received and so further time has been allowed for the parties to comply. That may be easier said than done!
