Taking a stand

Comments (20)

Shareholders can have their say about Kirkby at the EGM but what about the rest of us?

Facebook............

I've set a profile up on there called Keep Everton Alive. This is purely a vehicle to swap ideas anyone has regarding a possible protest against the move.

If you are interested then please log on (creating a profile takes 2 minutes) and forward your ideas and suggestions.

It's getting sad that we are having to resort to these measures simply to protect the club but I think its time for action.

The shareholders only need 30% of the shareholding to launch a takeover bid.

If they're that unhappy why don't they?

Hi Gareth

You have set it up as a personal profile. Wouldn?t a Group be better?

It?s a nice idea but there are a lot of groups already set up on Facebook with the same idea, and to be honest not a great deal have had much interest unfortunately. In actual fact there are also a few pro-Kirkby groups on there at the moment (not to mention a whole load of "Get Everton Out of Our City" groups created by the oh so funny gobshites).

...just to stir things up a bit. Have a look at some of these groups created by (I assume!) Liverpool fans. Even if you are a member of the "we don’t care what the Redshite say" mindset, surely this pisses you off, even just a little. Or am I just to windupable (think I’ve just invented a new word there).

Hi Lee, fair comment mate and I understand where you are coming from.

If you can let me know how to change it to a group I’ll get onto it.
With regards to it not working then lets just give it a try. If we can agree on what the protest is we can then work out the best way to get we can the word around.

Hi Gareth

I’ve created the group for you. This link should take you straight there.

If anyone is interseted in taking over the Admin role then feel free as I probably won’t have enough time.

Hopefully this group can attract a few people as it is intended for the sole use of organizing a protest so the ’No’ voters and the converted ’Yes’ voters can have their voices heard in a constructive manner.

Great minds think alike! I've now removed my group, Gareth ? might as well have just the one group. But you may want to put the words ?Protest? and ?Kirkby? in the group name somewhere, as this will increase the number of ?hits? you will get from people browsing for this sort of thing. All the best for it mate.

Chris Taggart, the Board of EFC and their cabal members hold around 75% of the 35,000 shares in Everton FC Co Ltd. So the 30% threshold is imposible to reach... unless one or more of them defects! This has always been the problem in the past when shareholders have tried to challenge the Board or force a vote. Billy and his chums hold all the cards!

Given that, then, Michael, it’s quite revelatory, don’t you think, that the shareholders have gathered 20pc of the body to force an EGM?

As a microcosm of current sentiment against the move, I would suggest it’s quite telling that at least 20pc of the non-Kenwright/non-EFC board member voting block has registered concerns about the project.

I think that idea from one of the other letters of making a stance by wearing white is a good idea... but obviously it needs to be heard by more then just Toffeeweb visitors.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=18330389779 for the Facebook group talked about on here... 6 members and counting(!).

In fairness there are a number of groups surronding the Kirkby debate, many obviously derogitory, but few that are very large. Obviously given the likelyhood of hearing (sometime) soon whether it will be called in or not, it seems all a little too late.

Actually Greg, it’s 20% of the TOTAL shareholding which equates to 80% of the non-Kenwright / non-EFC board member voting block that have called for the EGM. (If MKs figure of 75% is correct).

You have to laugh or you’ll cry.... hopefully the staduim debate will be over come this time next week.

Some people just dont like change I guess...

I’ll have a giggle at the facebook group though....

How about setting up a facebook group called "Everton have to move with the times, so maybe Kirkby isn’t a bad idea fan club" then we’ll see how many members sign up for that.... If we get enough then we can show it too the club at the EGM (if there is one of course).

All I’m doing is giving a voice to the "YES" voters, who if all of them join then we’ll have more than the "NO" Voters... judging on recent history.

Have a nice day.... :-)

According to the shareholders' site financial report for 2007, BK, KW Earl and Woods hold a total of 23524 shares between them meaning that 11476 shares are not in their control meaning unless there has been an aqcusition of more shares greater than 976 by them since that report, a 10500 amount of shares is enough to mount a takeover bid.

If they only hold 25% of the shares and can atract a significant investor then BK?s hand can be forced, he's always said he would step aside if an investor came forward but the shareholders would rather persue a pissy EGM so they can have a bit of a moan.

I was in Manckchester today and found a car sticker along with others proclaiming "The CITY is ours". As there were also other Man City mottifs in the rear window, you could safely bet he was a City supporter.

That team who ain’t in the CITY ain’t doing that bad are they?

Stick and Stones anyone?

Just for clarification guys - to force an EGM, at least 20% of the shareholders entitle to vote must sign the requisition. At the last count, EFC had about 1,400 shareholders. Therefore, the shareholders organising the petition needed approx 280 shareholders to sign. They greatly exceeded this number.
