Why?

Comments (9)

Why is it that the Official Site is endlessly rolling out players and former staff to give the club such a publicity boost? First we get Neville with his 'the squad's got a lot of quality so we don't need that much improvement' and his 'when we get those guys back from injury they'll be like new signings' and who can forget the 'wow, we've been linked with signing Pele, Maradona and Maradona's pet alpaca called Dave — we really must be good'. Then we get given quotes from a string of managers, ex-players and chip shop owners saying how good Moyes' transfer dealings have been and then a host of squad players saying how optimistic they are for the season. Frankly it's odd.

Sure, there's sod all going on at the club at the moment and fans everywhere have let their FM gene kick in, but why do the club feel the need to do this? Is it about conning people into renewing their season tickets, forgetting about Kirkby (hah!) or ignoring the fact our boss hasn't committed to the future with some high profile jobs out there?

Normally the club doesn't give a flying fuck about what us the fans think. They don't normally care that we're clamouring for some quality signings, or that we want an improvement in the quality of football on the pitch. It just doesn't make sense. Is there some wrangling over money, concerns about the EGM or what? It can't just be about the offseason and slow news. Something just doesn't seem right to me.

Who knows, perhaps everyone at the club has been abducted by aliens and the aliens are now running things.

Or, maybe we haven't signed anyone yet, so the club think its important to ?say something? to appease the baying Evertonians ? conspiracy-a-go-go.

It?s as good a way as any other to keep the web site fresh given that we are pre-season and not much is happening (literally).
Or no matter what EFC do somebody has to have a fucking moan!

Hardly the point Martin. For a club that try to play down transfer speculation and gossip, this close season has just been plain silly. If anything, they’ve pandered to it. "Appeasing" fans isn’t going to sell them any more tickets or shirts, so I wonder who it’s for.

Mark, when there?s no news, they simply make some - rather than making up bullshit stories they just trawl out the players and get them to put their names to certain comments to fill the webpages.

The OS has a ?News? section but as I said, there really isn't any news at the moment, so they just fill it with bollocks - I really wouldn't read too much into it mate.

Soon we?ll sell AJ, buy Moutinho, Manny and 4 other top class players and everyone will be chuffed to bits - oh and the Kirkby move will go tits up, we?ll redevelop Goodison and win the league next season. :)

In my opinion it is the point Mark, it just seems like no matter what they do they can?t do anything right in the eyes of the vast majority (on here).
I know they seem to do their level best to piss us all off but I?m sure they are not sat there literally thinking of ways to do that!
The web site, like any other web site, has to stay fresh so why not make the players earn their money over the summer?
After all, there is no real news (yet) so they need something to pep it up...............don?t get me wrong.....they are "using" the players to sell tickets...or adverting EFCTV etc.......but why not? What?s the harm?

Martin,

You’ll only have to buy James a half and he’ll think you’ve bought him a pint!

Fair play James. A job in the Goodison PR department awaits!
