Jose Baxter

Would anyone who was there last night, or anyone who has seen him play in the reserves or youth team, be kind enough to give me the low down on this guy. I did a quick google search and already found one story saying he is better than Rooney was, at that age.
Without this very obvious and somewhat tedious link, what has this guy got and how good is he?

My old fella was there last night and I?ll quote him so you can make your own mind up:
"That Jo Baxter lad is fuckin mint."
There you go!
He had a decent game, nothing more. He was probably the pick of the youngsters, along with Jack Rodwell. Jose hit the bar with a free kick and delivered an excellent corner for the Jags header and he was neat and tidy. A tad small and not that quick (something that seems to be a problem with all of the Everton team). He is no Rooney however (as much as i wish he was).
Unfortunately i don’t see many of the youngsters from last night making it at Everton. The strikers were poor, and only Baxter and Rodwell stood out to me.
Oh...and Andy Van Der Meyde. He was decent as well and amazingly he defended well.
This guy has been kept under wraps by Everton due to what hapened to Rooney. He is better than Rooney age 4 age, I?ve watched him since he was 11.
He’s got alot of potential but he’s got a long way to go. He was decent yesterday, looked composed and tidy and made a nice assist. It wasn’t anything amazing though, he just kept things simple and worked hard.
He’s not the next Rooney though, I watched them both at 16 and Rooney is a class above. Technically there similar but Baxter lacks Rooney’s strength, enthusiasm and burst of pace. There’s nothing wrong with that though, Rooney’s a level above most English players coming through.
Baxter has the toold though and I do believe he’s one of the better talents in England coming through at the moment. He’ll definatly make it but he needs time.
He reminded me of a young Osman more than anything. Good touch, quick feet and very aware. He’s bigger than Osman though and quicker aswell.
Hi Connor, good to see your summary was similar to mine.
I’ve got to say though my pet Tortoise is quicker than Osman...
Similiar to Osman, Tony Marsh’ll be happy then eh?
Rumour has it that he’ll be off at the first chance.
Hope its bollocks and that he does come good though
Jose Looked the part but only time will tell...... Cadamateri, Branch, Jeffers?
I?ll tell ya what though..... fuck me, Andy Van was CLASS!
Looks to be getting his fitness up and was defending as well as attacking. Again, I know it's early days for him too but he certainly has the bit between his teeth, and he looks like he means what he?s been saying this time!
He is our only NATURAL winger and I just hope to god he is given a fair crack of the whip against decent opposition.
I?d love to see him succeed.... you don't play for Inter or get Dutch caps if you're shite!
Having said that, I still appreciate that he owes us a lot but I reckon he is about to pay us back! (Fingers crossed)
Ben Chambers, it’s comments like that that will get you slaughtered on here, but me personally I’m of the same opinion.
I would love to have seen AVDM with us, injury free and without all the personal problems in his life. I just have the feeling that its too late for him to redeem himself but if there was even a glimpse of him doing it, I’d have no problem giving him his chance.
I went to the match last night and even though we won and played a lot of kids it did worry me with the size of our squad as I don't think they can still cope in the premier league. The most promising youngster who looks like he has got it and should be a quality player for us is Jukebox. Rodwell looked good/ok but can he play in that role all year?? I'm not sure. Maybe now & again for experience but that is about it. VDM needs to be given the ball more often as he goes off the boil when not. But at least he was running about making more of a effort than normal.
"You don?t play for Inter or get Dutch caps if you?re shite!" - Pardon? My missues gets them down the chemist on prescription so it ain't that difficult.
My dad is a scout at Everton and has talked about him for a few years now. Started as a striker, but dropping into central mid field or "in the hole". Has been playing a year above his age for at least 2 years now. Not as strong or quick as Rooney though - but technically very good and clever passer, calm on the ball.
Along with Rodwell, he is tipped to come through to the first team - both have skippered England U-16s to the Victory shield.
One lad even better is in the under-14s (and I don't like naming him, but will) is Ross Barclay, cross between Rooney and Gerrard. LFC are gutted we have him.
Let's hope we keep them all!
Went last night but my Grandson got something in his eye so we spent all half time and 10 minutes of the 2nd half in 1st aid, very nice people though. AVDM was good and Jack Rodwell looked elegant if unspectacular. Don?t think Baxter stood out that much but neat and tidy. Jag & Joleen where there usual self but Turner?s turning into Dracula.
Whats the point? If he does come through and starts off well after a bit of a bad spell you will all want him fucked off anyway......
Baxter played well last night, made a few intelligent runs and linked well on occasions. Impressed with how Lukas J played - he won every header and kept going to the end - he was exhausted at the end. Not sure if he is technically good enough or quick enough to make it in the Premier League but he gave 110%. Agard was poor. And VDM is off the pace totally despite the odd flash of his former ability. Also can the singing of the Gravesen song cease please.
You are all dodging the real question!
Does he wanna play in Kirkby or Goodison?
I enjoy reading the opinions about the young lads coming through at Everton. I am aware how good Rodwell is and that Baxter is coming through. But Steve Round states that all 3 young lads did well last night and I haven't seen anyone report about Gosling. How did he do last nght.
Gosling was terrible. Completely off the pace, kept giving the ball away and missed a sitter. Nowhere near ready to be honest.
I doubt few on here were lucky enough to have glimpsed young Rooney in the youth team, certainly before the bumper crowd in the Semi of the Youth Cup. Those who were lucky enough should cast their minds back to the Everton style of play. 1 up front (Symes) 8 in defence and Rooney in midfield. Typical play was a big hoof, knock down from Symes and then Rooney got the ball and tried to beat as many as he could before hitting the ball as hard as he could from 25 yards. He was a little wild with his shooting, but he impressed with his awareness (on those rare times that he did actually pass) his pace and power (particularly as he was a year or two younger than most he played against). In that Semi he was 16 and a half.
Now to Baxter, the lad is not quite 16 and a half (born in Feb 92) and those of us judging him on last night?s performance are doing so against Championship players, not kids. He?s not lightning but he is pacy and he has better awareness for me than Rooney (but he plays in a much better Everton youth team) and is more of clever player for me than Rooney who plays more of a Scholes role, though he could play well off a big mobile striker (like the Yak) with his passing and awareness. He also can go past people (when he wants to) and has a shot on him. He also works hard and does not have Rooney?s temper or ability to self destruct.
But let?s keep it in perspective, if he plays against Blackburn he?ll smash our youngest player record by almost 6 months. IT?S FAR TOO EARLY!!!!
Read my post back, I meant Baxter could end up playing more of a Scholes role or off a big mobile striker (not Rooney which is how it reads). Sorry for that!
Andy van der Meyde is our saviour!!
What really struck me watching the match at Deepdale last night was the complete lack of pace in all of the Everton youngsters. Gosling, Rodwell, Baxter, Lucas J., Agard. All of them incredibly ponderous. None of them stand out as being able to make the grade in my opinion. Maybe we should look abroad in order to sign future Premier League midfield players, although we seem to be producing some decent forwards over the last few years.
I personally like the lad. I’ve seen him a few times, he’s got potential, but I can’t see him becoming a superstar, more like a decent, solid member of the first team squad - almost like another Osman, as mooted.
I reckon he could suit a few minutes here and there for the first team in the coming season - with the amount of (lack of) players we have, I can see us needing to bring a few of the youngsters through sooner rather than later.
Preston game.
Did nobody else spot Moyes yelling to Van der Meyde to get back into position, whereupon he stood with his arms out and proceded to ignore the instruction? We won't see him again.
I never saw him play so can’t judge about Baxter, but I agree with Steve Ferns:
"let?s keep it in perspective, if he plays against Blackburn he?ll smash our youngest player record by almost 6 months. IT?S FAR TOO EARLY!!!! "
Do not expect much from him this season. It’s too early.
Andy Hegan: I believe AVDM was just saying to Moyes "do you remember when my arse was this wide and I couldn’t run back and defend" and then after they shared that little joke, he went on to do a spot of defending and showed some good qualities.
He is an enigma, he will not be our saviour, but there is a chance he could make a positive contribution next season.
As for young Baxter, until I see anything to the contrary, I’m happy to believe Matt Kay’s old man who says "that Jo Baxter lad is fuckin mint."
From what I have seen of him he could be viewed as Everton's answer to Michael Owen. He will score a hatful of goals for us and will become an Everton legend.
Good player but, as a few have said, he isn’t quite the finished article yet.
Loved his free-kick effort though.
I completely agree with Tony Bell. I’ve met his tortoise and it is considerably quicker then Osman. Rodwell and Baxter were the best of the youngsters on display at Deepdale last week. Man of the match for me was Van der Meyde. Jags is an absolute legend. Big problem for Everton is the complete lack of pace!
I just saw the jose baxter goal brilliant goal, but i couldnt help but noticing the young chap who fended of the defender and layed the ball on to him hes not mentioned once any one know he is
Something must’ve escaped my attention. What has happened to Jose Baxter? Is he injured or out on loan or something?
