Big Vic in Nigeria squad

Comments (6)

Two good points come from this:

They (the Nigerian management) obviously think he is good enough as he was picked from a large squad of possible Nigerian players.

Also: He will get more games/experience than he would if he were with us.

Bad point: if we have not bought a new striker (or two if AJ goes) we will be further short of cover upfront. Having said that, perhaps Jutkiewicz or even Baxter will get a run out?!?!

Those two are far too inexperienced at the minute. We need to let AJ go for £10.5M plus (if there is a deal on the cards) and buy a new striker from abroad who has a proven track record. I think we could get Keane for £8m or maybe Gudjohnson from Barca for around £6M.

Reports I’ve read is that Keane would have to cost over £20 mil Gavin.

And Gudjohnson probably has extraordinary wage demands, think of 80k a week. Although that is just a gamble based on that he went to Barça on a free!

I would much rather sell Victor while his stock is high than lose AJ. He done well in Europe but was hopeless in the league. Perhaps a newly promoted club would take a chance on a young international for £5-6 Million. I feel this would be very good business for EFC.

Fuck international football - Vic needs experience playing for Everton, not Nigeria.

Problem is if we do sell AJ, we need to know why don’t we. We simply might need the cash to balance the books again.

Ste Kenny, we?d get fuck all for Anichebe, so no we shouldn?t sell him. AJ will get us £11 million despite him only scoring 4 more goals than Vic and starting about 20 more games.

Victor has talent but needs time. I watched him in the reserves about 3 years ago and he was about to be released, the amount of developing he?s done since then has been fantasic. His goalscoring record speaks for itself. 10 goals in 19 starts in his Everton career despite the abuse he gets.

He?ll never be as good as Vaughan, he?ll never be anything special but I have doubts he has the talent to be better than AJ. He has the tools to be a decent Premier League striker.

Playing international games will be good for him, get him the experience he needs. Hopefully his fitness will improve as well.

I agree with you, Jason, we should throw the youngsters on, won't do them any harm,l ook at Arsenal when they play in the Carling Cup. They always play their youngsters, mso we should have Baxter and Rodwell in the side and JPK with his wizzardry, so there's no need to panic... or Is there?
