The Mail Bag

Another own goal by Everton FC

Even the website writers are as useless as the board and marketing and PR dept now! Just read this story (http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/yak-wants-more.html) on the Yak. Especially where it says: "The Nigerian striker scored 21 times last season in all competitions ? the first player to have done that at Everton since Bob Latchford in 1978." -

Didn't Gary Lineker get 40 in the 1985-6 season? As ever, Everton prove themselves to be utterly useless. Maybe I'm harsh but who can forget the Riquelme gaffe last year. Everton need to radically overhaul their entire off-field set-up and start again afresh. They're a bunch of amateurs.

That was lifted straight from an interview with Sky Sports magazine. But I take your point, they should have read it first.

I?m sure Tony Cottee broke over 20 too. Possibly Peter Beardsley also. Pretty barren though isn?t it. Don?t think AJ will do it!

Im sure the quote at the time was "first player to score 20 since Peter Beardsley"...

Joe Pugsley scored twenty in 91-92 and Cottee scored 24 in 90-91

I may be getting misty eyed but I recall Kanchelskis beating dixie deans record in his first season.

Why is it that if there is a way to do something wrong ,we seem to be the ones doing it... I remember when we got Yak last season all the smart arse reds where asking me, "Are you sure you have not been having a test run on the site again?"

Perhaps you’ve misinterpreted this quote in that it could mean since Bob Latchford in 1978 no other Evertonian has scored exactly 21 goals in a season, rather than the 20+ aspect, I’ve got no idea on whether this stat is true but thats the way I read and understood the quote?

I guess they spotted it. I just had a look and Latchford isn’t mentioned.

Graeme Sharp scored 21 in league in 1984-85 and 30 in all competitions.

They should’ve texted Ask Sharpy first

Something I noticed last week after the Cambridge game was Lukas Jutkiewicz being described by the OS as a "Danish under 21 international"

Err, no, try Polish.

Does anybody (with any interest in Everton FC) proof read these articles? I mean, if I was that young lad I’d be pretty offended that my club can’t even get my nationality right!

Now that Peter Beardsley’s been mentioned, lets change thread and come up with an Everton all time ugly eleven. I’ll start with Dai Davies (minus the teeth) Alan ’Mooncat’ Harper and Mike ’The Pug’ Pejic.

Kings Dock is back on........... we sign someone........... Then we hear we have 4 more years of Phil Neville................ well they did say breaking rather than good news............. I like the guy but would like him to be playing for someone more........... is 11am too early to start drinking????

Easy mistake to make, and the riquelme thing was mainly the players fault as he did agree to sign and then suped up his wages x3, but then again they should not have printed the story till pen was put to paper.

I’m a sportswriter and have been a Toffee all my life. It was my grandfather’s team...So, I was lucky enough to be born one..

But, I’m more than willing to give up the sunshine of South Texas and come and work in the Everton PR department....I have a BA and an MA. and remember when...Alan Ball was the greatest of them all...I also know how to fact check...
