Moutinho's motivos....

Comments (28)

According to Portuguese newspaper sources Moutinho wants to move because of personal and financial problems. He has invested heavily in a Soccer School which is having difficulties and his relationship with his father is strained (also apparently for financial reasons)

A friend of mine in Portugal has told me that he was seen lunching with Porto Boss Pinto de Costa who is famous for poaching players so maybe there could be another twist in the tale before this story ends. Do we really want a player who is coming to escape his personal problems? The majority of the feedback from Portuguese fans is saying that he's a top class player and why doesn't he wait for United or Chelsea to come in for him, but maybe he's just in a hurry.... Could be to our advantage?

I have just been on the Sporting Lisbon website. They played against Benfica on Sunday and Mountino was not included in the sqaud, this may have been because he played against Blackburn. Sporting seemed to have a full team out. So why would they leave their captain out?

Not another one of these, ’my friend told me’ stories. Just wait and see what see what happens with the deal (if anything) and quit throwing stupid rumours and conjecture into the equation.

I don’t care if he owes the queen £10m, if he puts on the blue shirt and improves us as a team, that’s all I care about. If he doesn’t sign, there will be others.

I know its frustrating..... but have faith.

My Portuguese mate (and Yes, I can provide a name) used to be a promising young star for Sporting until injury ruined his career and he says if we get him for anything less than £20m then it?s a steal. People over there rate him more highly than Ronaldo.

He was joking of course when he said he could help us win the Prem but he says if we keep most if not all of our team injury free then we?ll finish top 3/4 with a fit Moutinho in the team

I?ve asked him to get on the blower today and try and find out what?s going on...

As if he’s better than Ronaldo! I’d be happy if he had anywhere near the same inmpact Ronaldo has had in the prem. Another idea, could we not make a bid for someone like Wright Phillips who’d be a bit cheaper, so we’d have pace down the right and put Arteta in his natural central midfield position?

Agree with Gary. I don’t care what his motives are as long as he is a quality player that improves our team. In the end, doesn’t everyone changes jobs to get a bigger pay?

I really want this kid, please sign him soon!

It?s true about him having lunch with Porto. However he has said he won?t sign for them--sorry can?t find the quotes.

I was told about him through someone and apparently his boot and various other sponsorship deals will massively increase which is one of the enticing things financially along with wages and prestige.

From what I?ve heard it?s similar to what Graham Eaves has posted--would be good to hear what your mate says. Paper talk is we have put in another bid of £15M... I was told £16M may get him.

It’s knives out for Joao because he has said he wanted to leave. Can I persuade you that this is the reason for what you have heard rather than facts?

Chill out Mr Creaney!
I lived in Lisbon for nine years and "my friend" Jose Rosa is a lifelong Sporting fan and is merely relaying what he hears on the Portuguese grapevine. It?s only a discussion amongst friends so as they say in Portugal "Calma pa!".

Evertonians won’t like Moutinho, he’s too small!!!

We all know people on Toffeeweb don’t like small players. We need 6ft cloggers!!!

In all honesty, I’d love him here and I think it will happen. Hopefully we pay the price and get him in as soon as possible.

Hey Connor, if you and anyone else believe for one second that Mouhtino will sign for us then you will never learn. It's the same old Everton bullshit that we get every fucking year. Put in lower bids than will be accepted for quality players to appease the fans then minutes before the window closes sneak the real targets in through the back door.<

There's more chance of BK admitting he is a lying scumbag than us signing Mouthino. So dream on chumps... how many more false dwans do you lot need before you wake up to what's going on?

Ah Tony Marsh and his usual cheery disposition. You are a ray of sunshine on an otherwise cloudy day. I particularly like when u call your fellow Evertonians chumps. Is it all of us u refer to or a specific number? I wonder what the "chumps" as you so elouently put it think of you? Cue the backlash............................

Well he?s my son but I didn?t teach him to talk like that ! It must be listening to all these frustrated Blues fans. But nuff of that, back to the chase. Check out www.record.pt the Portuguese sports journal and Moutinho is quoted ...."mau investimento financiero"... It?s a hell of a language but I?m pretty sure it means something along the lines of "bad financial investment". So it must be true if he says so and it could well be one reason for him wanting away, which he is also quoted as sayin ! I say let?s hope we get him and Fernandes and the sooner the better.

Unlike previous years when DM hasn?t been able to get the players he?s wanted, this one looks like its being done without interference from other PL clubs and with EFC having assembled the cash to go all the way. Its never over till the Echo sings, but it doesn?t look - or smell - like a bs smokescreen to me.. And if he does come, I thinl Fernandes will bust a gut to get into the same team as him.

(Nowt to do with us - but read the comments madee by the Spurs chairman about the conduct of our lovely neighbours - trash)

Tony Marsh, if that’s the case then fair enough. I’m not saying we will definatly sign him but I’ve got a feeling there more to this one that others in the past. If I’m wrong I’m wrong, it wouldn’t suprise me.

Why do you care anyway? He’s 5ft 7, there’s no way he can be good. Just another Osman or Pienaar really.

Connor I have always said that to get away with being small in stature in the EPL you need to be a real special talent ? a Zola or a Tevez for example. Quick witted and strong on the ball with bags of natural talent. Osman or Piennar possess none of these attributes and that's why I don't rate them.

As for Moutinho, I dont know enough about the lad to comment so I won't but he has got to be better than the short arse players currently strolling about in Blue shirts. Still don't reckon he will sign for us though. Why should he if he is as good as our fans are making out?????

Tony Marsh, if you haven't got anything good or positive to say about are beloved club or its players then don't say anything at all. How can you not rate Osman and especially Pienaar, ? no natural talent or quick witted?! Yeh they're not in the class of Zola but who was/is?

Pienaar to me his one of our best players, plenty of skill, works hard for the team and creates a lot of chances too as his stats prove, he made the most assists last season and he?s one of the reasons our football as improved this season!

And as for Osman, at the top of his game and on form he is a good player for Everton. Ok he?s no Piennar or Arteta but on his day he is a good little footballer!! I for one hope we do sign the 5ft 7in tall Moutinho because what he lacks in height he certainly makes up for it in quality and a lot of it!!!

Following the Joao Moutinho sage, I came across this from July 2007 http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/sport/2007/07/24/scouting_report_joao_moutinho.html

Written by Steve Claridge in the Guardian. However, the posts at the end of the page make more interesting reading.

I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that Moutinho was in the "Playmaker" "Arteta" role, but it seems he is much more versatile than that, filling in at Left, Right and Defensive Midfield.

Tony Marsh, the thing with you is you wouldn?t rate the likes of Zola and Tevez if we had them on our books. That?s what you?re like to be honest, nothing Moyes buys is good and you only rate about 4 players on our books. The rest are supposedly lightweight midgets who shouldn?t be competing in the Prem.

I always thought of you as a purist, someone who wanted good football and natural pass and move players on the pitch. Pienaar and Osman have there deficiencies no question about it but you can?t fault there qualities with the ball. They?re intelligent players, excellent at the short pass-and-move game and they don?t shy away from the ball. They aren?t amazing by any stretch of the imagination but they have quality and should be respected. As a purist I?d expect someone to respect players like Osman and Pienaar who are good footballers and want to play football.

Despite their lack of height, strength and stature, they more than make up for it with there non-stop running and never-say-die attitude. They are small players, yes, but good small players with big hearts, two excellent players to have in the squad. They offer quality, hard work and versatility.
