Defensive headache

If like me you had absorbed just about as much as you can possibly take of DK, KW resigning, conspiracy theories and the continual disheartening scouring of the intent for new players, then I wish to offer a genuine debate of some substance to talk about.
I have been wondering what Davey will do for sometime regarding the positions of CB & LB for next season. We all know he suggested to Baines that Lescott was primarily used at LB due to lack of size in the first 11, so my question is do we think this should continue, if not then who out of Yobo, Lescott & Jagielka plays at CB.
Personally I would love to see Baines with an extended run at LB to see what he can do, but I can't choose between the 3 for CB, I think they all have there relative merits.

I think that Lescott really is one of the best centre backs in the country, and certainly in the top 2 English CB?s of last season (the other being Ferdinand of Manure). Pre-season is always a warm-in process, so his recent performances don?t really mean as much as some of his displays when used at centre back last year.
Another side to this is the fact that Lescott is not a genuine LB. Sure he is a classy defender who can fill in, but I feel we too often use our better players out of position just to comprimise the lack of talent elsewhere in the team. Baines for me must start. He is pacey, will take on defenders, has a decent delivery and even can get goal scoring opportunities via the left flank (Note that most of Lescott?s goals come from set pieces, which should not be comprimised). His lack of height may be a slight issue as the game gets bigger and stronger year on year, but I think with Lescott and either Yobo/Jags in the centre, that should be their job and not Baines?.
Finally, my choice of Yobo is purely a personal ?feeling?. I am just a little more nervous of errors from Jags (remember his retched performance v Arsenal going from 1-0 up to 4-1 down?). Thats not to take away from his performances after xmas where he stood out, and rightfully so got the plaudits. I would be happy with Jags, I just think Yobo and Lescott inspire more confidence and play better together.
If we were to purchase a couple of preverbial brick shit houses I think we can then pick him with Yobo or else risk losing him. I think he can learn next to Yobo and begin to capture the form that made him one of the best CB?s in the league.
I don?t think he is quite competing with the best in the Prem, such as Ferdinand, Vidic, Carvalho etc but I think Yobo is. He has all the make up of a top class CB as has Lescott and I believe that CB partneship could be the best in the league bar none.
Here?s hoping.

I believe Jagielka and Yobo to be the better defenders at the club. Jags is a no nonsence type defender and yobo has the pace and strength to match any in the Prem. Lescott has looked shaky in pre-season at CB, especially at Preston and I would play him LB instead. This wouldn?t go down to well with him, but for the good of the club I would take the gamble.
