AJ failed his medical

Comments (52)

I have just been told by a player who I know well that AJ has failed his medical. Fulham now won't pay anywhere near our asking price. Don't know what this means to the Moutinho bid? Said it was his knee... Everton trying to hush it up at the moment

Well that could be bye bye to Moutinho !

Well why would we be suprised if it is true!! if it is true....then it can be placed in the big book of everton fc transfer bungles, what a lovely way for the board to now blame this as the reason for no transfers...small squad blamed for our top 4 failure last season an what do we do?? get rid of another 4 players and bring how many in??? NOWT!! no wonder are CEO has resigned...i think he has just took the drive thru position in the McDonalds by my house...

He hasn’t "failed" his medical, but apparently they’re taking their time over examining past injuries and such.

It’s what you would expect given the amount of money and the fact it’s Fulham paying it!

The transfer will be wrapped up in the next few days. There’s a delay, though - the OP is telling the truth but stretching it a bit ;)

If I’m not mistaken, does Johnson have no history of serious injury? I can’t see how he would fail a medical.

Yes, I seem to remember he had a bit of a problem with his knee a few years back, and his hamstrings - but what fast player doesn’t!

What a load of rubbish. Either he’s failed his medical or he hasn’t. Why would Fulham negotiate his price down? Either he’s crocked or he isn’t. £7 million is a lot to waste on a crocked player. They wouldn’t want him at all if he was crocked. It’s either Fulham playing games or he is just undergoing as stringent a medical as he would get if he was signing for Everton. I expect there are some doubts raised over his previous knee injury and Fulham are just waiting on a specialist opinion or a scan report before giving it the all clear.

Has an incoming or outgoing transfer ever been straight forward where Everton are concerned? I cant remember one!
It would appear something is up as he has been at Fulham since last week and for the last two days its gone very quiet!!!
Having said that he has never been a sicknote whilst at Everton so his knee cant be that bad?

Well the announcement on Monday expected the medical to be complete by yesterday so we’re over a full day past when expected to be announced and.....nothing!

And there’s been a lot of "all done in a day" deals done lately. I think there may unfortunately be some truth in this rumour.

I bet Fulham have spotted us as a club in a state of crisis after KW did one. They know now as im sure we all do that we need whatever money we can get, to buy a decent player and a number of squad players - showing Moyes we have enough for him to work with meaning he will sign a new contract.

The last 24hrs has opened the state of our club up to the footballing world, so Al Fayed is probably trying to pull a fast one knowing we are not really in any position to say no.

The next week or so could be huge for the future of Everton FC and I cant begin to guess what state the club will be in come the Blackburn game.

The fact that we even need the johnson deal to go through to sign Moutinho as the roumer has it means to me that were skint and theres nothing down for us......prove me wrong eh Everton coz me season ticket wasnt cheap this year!!! (still avnt recieved it yet by the way)

As I posted in the other thread, why would Fulham want him for any price if his "knee is done in"?

According to the Independent today, the test results could take up to 48 hours from Monday which makes tomorrow the likely day for an announcement either way.

The same paper said there was some "distance" between the two parties over personal terms but it begs the question why he was paraded at Selhurst Park last night if terms hadn’t been agreed.

This does appear to have become a protracted affair however I do believe the word yesterday was that he had passed the medical and the issues remaining related to the player needing to agree terms. Infact, the news today was that he had finally reached agreement. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I know someone who works for Fulham, and asked him earlier this evening what's happening with Johnson? He said as far as he knows its going to be concluded in the morning, apparently it was something to do with the Chief Exec not being around or being able to get to the club in time. He said he certainly hasn't heard anything about it falling through and would've done if it had.

Lyndon - while I subscribe to more conspiracy theories than Oliver Stone could dream of, Dougie Freedman?s testimonial against FFC was booked ages ago. AJ?s a justifiable hero at Selhurst. He?d have turned up whoever the Eagles were playing. If he does have a knee injury, maybe it?s all that running to the fucking corner flag. Get someone who can pass the ball through the middle...

At £7m we should NOT sell. As Lyndon said, if he’s crocked who would want him anyway. If it’s Al-Fayed looking at our situation and trying to play hard ball, we call his bluff. If he doesn’t go I’m happy so can you all stop slagging him off as he just might read this website!!! Maybe if we played a bit more to his strengths and were a bit clever with switching tactics during games to employ him he’d rattle the back of the net a few more times. AJ is a major part of one of the happiest days of my 42 years so far - stuffing the RS 3-0 - biggest derby victory in my lifetime.

Interesting that someone on a Fulham site claims to have inside knowledge that the deal is being held up at Johnson’s end due to a possible late intervention by West Ham and that Johnson’s agent is using this as leverage to drive a hard bargain. It would seem that the inordinate delay is becoming a feeding ground for all sorts of conjecture

Even if this rumour is true, I can?t see it affecting our transfer dealings. DM has said all along he wants him to stay but it was his decision to leave. He?s also said that we have money to spend. As much as I would never believe Ross or Wyness if they?d made this statement, I do believe David Motes is a man of honesty and integrity so I?ll take his word as gospel. I’d put money on the deal going through. If R.Keane’s worth what the RS paid then AJ’s worth 10-14M.

Remember Van Nostrilface’s PSV to Manure deal. They got him after a very public injury. If you were in Fulham’s shoes though (obviously a multimillion pound player being top of the list whenever popping to the supermarket !) wouldn’t you try your luck?

Whatever the real story behind the AJ transfer saga is, it has been handled very ineptly by the club. On another note, assuming that the Russian mob isn?t interested in us has anybody approached the Burmese junta about investing? Those guys just stole all that UN aid cash and have very close ties to the filthy-rich Chinese govt.. I bet that they would relish the chance to go wallet to wallet with the despot who runs Man City. They may be human rights violators on a mammoth scale but who fucking cares? This is Everton we?re talking about!

As a Fulham fan this doesn’t surprise me. If we’re paying over 5 million for a player then expect us to say there is this or that wrong with him and we should get a discount because of it. We tried it with Zamora just a few weeks ago and we lost Marlon King last year because of it.

I personally think this is nonsense as there are a number of more logical reasons outlined above as to why the deal hasn't gone through yet. However, didn't we strike a similar deal over Lescott? He had had that serious injury previously and so Moyes knocked his price down and put quite a substantial chunk of the transfer based on appearances?

Moyes quote in the Echo....

"?We can?t hide the fact that we need new players. Everybody knows it. We have to get five or six players in before the season starts.?

When asked if he could see any imminent movement in the transfer market - Sporting Lisbon?s Joao Moutinho tops the wanted list - Moyes replied:

?Not at the moment, no. We are in a poor, poor situation regarding going forward.?

Oh dear - this does not look good.
