What's going on?

Comments (79)

Yesterday Moyes said he had money to spend on new players. Today he has told the Liverpool echo something totally different. Here's part of the quote taken from the Echo:

?We can?t hide the fact that we need new players. Everybody knows it. We have to get five or six players in before the season starts.?

When asked if he could see any imminent movement in the transfer market - Sporting Lisbon?s Joao Moutinho tops the wanted list - Moyes replied: ?Not at the moment, no. We are in a poor, poor situation regarding going forward.?

How has the situation changed in 24 hours?? I believe we really are doomed. There's also rumours flying about that his about to quit.

That can only mean one thing ? that the money is still not in place which will enable him to tie up the Moutinho deal ? and the hitch in the AJ transfer probably makes the situation far worse.

Somehow I`m beginning to think that the resignation of Wyness is linked to a desperate cash situation at the club. That man`s resignation may not be the worse news we are going to get this week!

Who IS running Everton? Those shareholders who have called an EGM at Everton should have this as the first question on their agenda.

According to today`s Times, Keith Wyness walked out on Everton `because of concerns over the increasing influence of Philip Green and Robert Earl`.

Now I was no fan of the Big Man but as CEO he had a legal responsibility for the conduct of the business and if Blue Bill`s buddies were `exerting undue influence` he was right to take issue with the Chairman over it. Increasingly Blue Bill looks and sounds like the proverbial `dead man walking`and I can only see this latest `sensation` as another step nearer the trap door.

What a situation to be in just 16 days from the start of a new season. Moving up to the next level ? don`t make me laugh!

Did anyone else see the interview on Sky Sports last night with one of Everton’s shareholders? He said they where all puzzled with the resignation of Wyness and the timing of it. He also said, that, Everton have to sell players to buy new ones. Things aren’t looking good at all.
Moutinho, your having a laugh. I’ve said all along it’s phantom bid just like the Ramsey bid.

That can be read one of two ways - to my mind he meant that things are currently in a poor poor state with the squad we have, not that our financial stae is poor.

Read it as you will, I reckon we’ll buy a few players in the coming weeks - DM pretty much promised as much in recent interviews.

I was shitting myself too but I have just watched the interview and Moyes seemed up-beat and in one of his better moods.

When he refered to a poor situatiion going forward, he meant his attacking options.... Vic away in Biejing, Vaughan's fitness a doubt, AJ being sold and Faddy gone. He means he needs a Striker and attacking players.

It's just a shit spin that the Echo have put on it.... watch the interview to put your mind at rest mate. Its worked for me. It is everything quoted in the Echo, just a different order and comes accross a lot different when you watch it.

Plus, Ian Ross has confirmed by email that "the manager has SUBSTANTIAL funds at his disposal".

I think before Monday the first player will be in with more to follow.

From the Times (not a paper thats inclined to make up bullshit)

Moyes is close to completing a deal to sign João Moutinho, the Portugal midfield player, but will have to pay Sporting Lisbon £16million to get his man and the manager is also interested in Darren Bent, the Tottenham Hotspur forward, and Diego Milito, the Real Zaragoza striker. Moyes is relying on the £13million that the club will receive from Fulham for Andy Johnson to kick-start his summer spending. ?There is money to spend,? Moyes said. ?I am not going to accept second best.?

It appears to a lot of fans that Moyes is on the brink of leaving us due to no one being signed and every other team who can challenge us has now over taken us with thier buy?s.

This is a dire situation for Everton fans and my season ticket was not cheap.

Is there any sign what so ever that new players will be here before the week is out? Moyes is our biggest asset, when?s he signing his new deal??

I’m amazed how selective some of the doom mongers are on this site. You take a quote that could be interpreted in a number of ways, put your own spin on it to suit your argument, and off you go. All the while ignoring the contrary information that is also coming in from various sources (e.g. that a fee has been agreed for Moutinho).

The ’poor situation going forward’ almost certainly refers to the fact that with Vaughan having been sent off we may be down to one fit and available striker with 1st team experience.

This is my "OPINION" on it,

1) Moyes has said repeatedly that we have money to spend.
2) Speculative reports suggest that a 17m euro fee has been agreed with Sporting for Montinho, seems realistic if you believe the 10% clause in his contract for rejected bids (incredibly shrewd by EFC if true)
3) The Johnson saga rumbles on, rumours again persit that the club will not officially announce the Sporting deal until Johnsons move is concluded.
4) Moyes wants 5/6 players

My Guess is there is a substantial amount of money available, but the club want to know if the money for Johnson is available prior to concluding with Mountinho, the reason being that they openly accept that we need 5/6 players. If we have Johnsons money then we can get Mountinho + others, without it we may have lose Montinho for the sake of bringing in more numbers for lower values.

I suspect we will here on both matters fairly quickly one after the other.

If you cockheads want to read The Sun then fine, by comparison to most of the rags out there, The Times can hold its head up as a decent paper. None of them tell the truth or get things right all the time, but at least the Times can be (mostly) trusted.

I'm sure we're going to hear an awful lot of rumour and conjecture about big Keith's departure. So I thought I'd take my chance early to throw in what I've learnt. It might be true or compete bollocks but Moyes should have signed his contract 2 weeks ago and we should have known about Kirkby in 48hrs (2 weeks ago!!)

First of all, Wyness has bought up substantial plots of land in Kirkby, including shops, which were due to be bulldozed for DK. So he was/is set for a big pay day if it goes ahead. On top of his bonus for securing the move.

Also, Moyes gave him a list of targets, including Bentley, that he wanted him to follow up. Up until this week he had only met 1 agent to discuss a deal, this being Moutinho's. The lends credence to the rumour of the argument Moyes and Wyness had last week over new players.

Right, line up to shoot me down for posting what I've heard....

I felt sorry for Moyes - 5 years of team building are on the brink of collapse. All his hard work is being wasted, it was clear his disappointment and discontent, instead of looking up and forward he has his hands tied and has to blood promising youngsters just to fill up the numbers. We cant even fill the bench with 18 fit squad players never mind with quality.

How are we supposed to compete on 4 fronts with 13 first team players and 3 youngsters?!? There are only 3 weeks to the start of the season we look desperate on and off the pitch, how can we always fuck the things up is something I will never understand, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

(1) We got £6M for McFadden

(2) We should get in the region of £10/£12M for Johnson. Those are facts. Forget about DK, I can?t see whether or not that gets called in affects money for transfers.

There must be some profit for our 5th position in the Premier League last year. Has that just disappeared into thin air?

Just my thoughts, which are similar to those of a few people on this site, in regards to the Johnson/Moutinho saga(s).

It’s widely believed the Moutinho transfer is awaiting money from the Johnson sale. I think Moyes has a few squad players lined up for cheap but with the Johnson sale, for example, saying he was sold for £12,000,000 and we bought Moutinho for £18,000,000 (both made-up fees), this means the outlay for Moutinho is £6,000,000. With the rest of the budget we could purchase the squad players we need.

What Shite are half you people takin? Every summer theres a conspiracy story going on around these forums going on as if the club was about to fall apart.

Just yesterday Moyes said he was agreeing to a new contract, reportedly on £60k a week and just yesterday the club said there was substantial money available for players. Even before on Sky Sports they were reporting that we were preparing a second bid for Mountinho.

Everything isn't always up at Everton, were in a better position than most clubs and the majority of the squad that will start next season is the squad that finished 5th and I find it highly unlikely that we won't add to it.. so why are people talking about relegation?

If there was no money then Moyes wouldn't have been chasing the likes of Mountinho this summer... and even if Moyes hasn't got as much as first thought he?s managed to bring in the likes of Cahill, Arteta & Pienaar for under £3 mil

Moyes?s comments last nite were probably out of frustration because of the result and were not playing as well as we should be so far this summer... I've seen the interview and it sounds like he's frustrated about the lack of competition and players not giving enough in games more than anything else. Also I don't believe Neville would have signed a new deal & Steve round would have been brought in if Moyes is about to walk? Makes no sense?

Just be patient, this time last year everyone was paniking and we pulled the Yak out the bag.. by the Blackburn game everything will be a lot me clearer and then this time next season we can all start some conspiracy tales!

What a shame for Moyes, all the hard work he?s put in over the last few seasons looks like its going down the shitter. If he goes then there?s only one person to blame, BK, why the fuck is he hanging on to the club when he knows that apart from being king bullshitter, he?s got fuck all else to offer the club?

Can I just say like some others I have watched the interview with Moyes on the OS and I can?t see any reference to the poor poor state of the transfer situation, can anyone enlighten me?

Also there is some speculation developing that the man behind the supposed meltdown is Sir Phillip Green. On this note I would just like to clarify that Sir Phillip Green is not a director of Everton FC and therefore has no official influences over the finances of the club and cannot pull the plug on any finances or transfers. Secondly the directors of the club listed on the 2007 account own around 67% of the shares, we know another 20% must be owned be the minority shareholders as they have put the petition together for the EGM, therefore is Sir Phillip Green owns any shares in EFC then it can only be 13% max which doesn?t really give him any major influence as a shareholder. If he has lent any money to the club in any other capacity then I would imagine it cannot simply be racalled at any time.

Lastly it states in his interview with the BBC that he has no interest in investing in a football club despite having the opportunity in the last 10 years. In fact he is just a friend of Kenwrights that advises him when Bill asks.

Take what you want from that, but to me it means that there is no truth what so ever in Sir Phil Green withdrawing funding from the club, hence swiping our transfer budget.

I don?t know for certain and have no contacts or insider information but it makes sense to me that the club would be announcing agreements to us via the official site when the know the conclusion of the Johnson sage and that?s why we are all still waiting.

Can I just clarify that all the doom and gloom today has been born from a poorly constructed article in the Echo - in which moyes? interview was completely turned upside down to make a story and scare the death out of Evertonians - and who wrote it? yes a RS fan... one who gave up his season ticket at Anfield to write about our club.... I sense a bit of sadistic pleasure in his warblings.. and all at our expense.

Dave,

its not the story in Echo, it?s the interview with DM on Everton TV most of us are referring to ? its clear from his body language that he is frustrated from the lack of funds and transfers

If nothing changes and stays the same between now and the week prior to EPL kick-off, thats when we should all start to panic !!!!!!
Until then we should all just get a grip.

Just to clarify:
If Sir Philip Green or anyone else for that matter has loaned money to Everton Football Club for any reason then by law that loan and its terms for repayment must be entered in the clubs annual return, any of you who wish to see the clubs full accounts can pay £18 to Companies House and get all of the information you require. Don?t waste your money because you can bet your life that the local press already have and if that was the case they would have published the information.

I agree with Stephen Carson and i believe things will start happening on the transfer front when the squad gets back from america, too many people are clutching at straws and putting a negative spin on reports that have anything to do with Everton at the moment, i mean talk about getting there wires crossed over Moyesy’s interview! he clearly states that the squad at this present time is in a poor, poor situation going forward, meaning he hasnt got alot of attacking options within the squad at the minute and that the squad as an hole arent playing well enough and that the club needs 5 to 6 new players to add competition for places and get every one back on there toes again because at the minute he cant drop people who are basically playing shit at the moment! i mean why would Moyesy come out the other day and say there was funds available if there really wasnt?!, like i said the other day Moyesy wouldnt keep on stating that we need 5 to 6 new players if there wasnt any money!! how come in the space of 24 hours people are saying were potless, as any one from the club, apart from that nobody of a shareholder actually come out and said were basically skint?!, no i didnt think so!! hows that saying go again....................... In Moyes We Trust!!!!!
