Poor Bill!

Comments (19)

How on earth does he do it? Not only is he expected to work 24/7 to garner investment into Everton FC but our Chairman is also obliged to "work hourly" in pursuit of transfer targets identified by the manager.

Given his record on both counts, he's either a bloody poor salesman or what he has to offer is not very attractive. Only three weeks ago, Davey was telling us he had yet to sit down with his chairman to determine the transfer budget. Now we learn that he's known it since the end of last season. Somebody is telling porkies, methinks, and I suspect I know who that might be.

Similarly, the late lamented CEO told us that he was spending all his time on the phone chasing down Davey's targets. This week we're told Wyness had "little or no part" in transfer business.

I know the Press Office sees BB as a loose cannon and seek to keep him muzzled but they really must try to introduce a semblance of credibility to what comes out of Goodison Park. Whereas anyone with a smidgeon of sensibility about feelings "on the street" could have turned The Fatman's departure into a positive, it has been allowed to spin out of control and herald a spate of crisis theories unheard of since the days of Agent Johnson.

Meanwhile, we can only continue to feel sorry for Poor Bill as he tries to fit 48 hours into every day!

Kenwright's come out doing he's best Corporal Jones impression while issuing his 'don't panic, don't panic' statement. One part of the statement caught my eye: "Our attempts to complete the signings of players we believe will improve the quality of our first-team squad continues on an hourly basis."

I would love to know what he classes as an hour in regards to EFC. It's been over 8 weeks since the end of the season and no new faces in the squad. If they are working hourly to get players in, that hour must be the longest length of time ever. This could also explain why there hasn't been any outside investment into the club, which Kenwright states he works 24/7 trying find.

I know that this is an attempt at humour, but in reality its a huge problem at our club. Many fans are skeptical at our Chairman's comments at the best of times, but anything that come out his mouth concerning time periods, we basically know it's a lie. As fans we just need a bit of honesty from the club, and the attempts of wool being put over our eyes has to stop.

After reading this article on Football 365 I am wondering why Keith Wyness, after chatting to his good buddy Paul Davidson, wasn't able to relate his current employer difficulties ? looking for a businessman to invest money in a football club ? to that of his "great friend", a businessman looking to invest money in a football team.

Or maybe his plan was, I've got a great friend looking to invest money in a football club, I've taken Everton for everything I can... Maybe if I find him another club to invest his money he may offer me a job, new opportunity for me, go past go and collect $200.

Or John, it went something like.....
KW to BK " Bill I’ve got a mate who is looking to invest in a footy club "

BK " Tell you what Keith, he can give me his cash, but he’s not having any of my train set "

From the OS

"Keith Wyness has been advising me about this (Real Mallorca) all the way. The deal would not have happened at Real Mallorca without him. He has given advice and assistance." ? Paul Davidson

Did we really pay Fat Keith £400,000 to advise his friends on the acquistion of other football clubs.

Maybe we have the reason for his departure right here - or maybe I?m just jumping to the conclusions that the OS want me to!

Who knows

Its likely the targets Moyes has in mind are players who their clubs really don’t want to lose. Getting them and thrashing out a deal with limited cash is proving extremely difficult, especially in a slow market. We are not Spurs with the financial muscle of Joe Louis behind us I’m afraid.

I take no notice of words that are said... actions are all that count.
We have under two weeks to find ambitious players who are mad enough to join a sinking ship's crew. The ones we have may as well stay after all they get paid whether they play or not and let's face it... if they play badly they have no one else who can take their place. It's money for old rope at the moment. I pray that BK proves me 100 percent wrong and signs Moutinho or his equivalent in ability plus at least three other Premier League standard players to raise the spirits of the depressed thousands of EFC fans who deserve much more...

Sitting here seething at the Mike Parry Show on Talksport. Parry started the show by asking followers of all Prem clubs to ring in and say whether or not they were happy with summer signings. He panned the likes of West Ham for not doing much in the window but before he took a single call he says ?I?m not worried about lack of signings at Everton, they?ve got a great chairman and manager and they are just waiting for the Andy Johnson sale to release cash to start the buying process??. I then rang the station and after a long wait was told, "We?ve got a queue of Evertonians waiting but Mike doesn?t want this to turn into just a discussion on Everton, so no thanks." So far I have not heard a single Evertonian on line!

Kenwright may not be able to get in investors but he sure has some friends helping him to deflect criticism!

In normal times, I agree 100% with the editors? line about abusing other Evertonians, and I expect this comment to be pulled as soon as a bleary eyed Michael or Lyndon read it.

But these are not normal times and the reactions to events within the club have been so extreme that I need to say a couple of things and quite a few of you out there need to hear them.

First, statement of the bleeding obvious: we are supporters; support in the worst times is far more crucial than the open topped bus best times. Secondly, the family that doesn?t hang together in tough times isn?t up to much. When skies are grey... ?

Next, Whether it?s the ale or simple derangement, the anti-everything supporters need to get out a bit more, and stop the vile abuse heaped on everything the club tries to do. You have gone so far in your shrill whining that it?s impossible for you to be called Evertonians. You are not supporters, you are that part of the cancer that is spreading through the body of the club.
Are we in crisis? Maybe, so now let?s show what we are really made of, hold our heads up and present a united front to the world. There?ll be plenty enough time to whinge about tactics, selection, and all the rest of the of the stuff that turns us on once this present hiccup is overcome.
No, we?re by no means perfect. Yes, Kirkby is a complete joke. Of course we need more good players. Naturally, we want a return to the School of Science. And do we achieve that by, figuratively, kicking Kenwright as those brave boys literally did to Catterick in the "golden" period?
So there you have it, editors. This bloke thinks the club is more important than the rights of whining malcontents. Shock. Cue sanctimonious blue comment.

Mike

Bang on. There are too many libellous comments justified because some half wit says "It’s because I care so much."

The same people moan that everyone in football hate us.

Not as much as these excuses for fans seem to hate the club. If we do sign anyone, God help them if they have a bad game. These same boo boys will be crucifying them.......all because "they care."

Trevor Lynes. If you take no notice of words then how come we are a sinking ship? Do you know your own mind? The only actions that have happened is KW leaving and no-one can be unhappy at that. 5th last year, a good run in the Uefa Cup, record signings year on year. That doesn?t seem like a sinking ship to me. You can?t call the lack of signings actions! I believe they are looking for top class and it is proving difficult to get these players on our budget. I would rather BK kept EFC until he found an investor with an interest in EFC as opposed to someone wanting in to the Prem. We would soon be in trouble if someone came in, spent millions and then got bored and left us saddled with debt. RING ANY BELLS? Get real and wait for the facts in the next week before calling my club a sinking ship.

Whilst it's understandable to be frustrated this closed season with everything thats going on, or rather everything thats not going, i think personal abuse of the people in charge of the club is not on. No matter what is said or done, certain people are immediately trying to find some sort of conspiracy behind it, and then proceed to slate someone at the club. If i was any self-respecting person, I would not want to work for a club where the fans constantly slate everyone for any reason they can find; maybe that's why we haven't signed anyone yet, maybe players don't want to sign for us because of the actions of some of our ?fans?. KW said this week that he had received death threats over the DK!!!! That makes me ashamed to be a part of The People's Club.

Mike,
I was angry at and against the sale of Bally, David Johnson, Alan Whittle, Lineker, Big Dunc, e.g. and, more recently, being stuck at JL waiting for the plane to Romania.
If the club sold Arteta and Lescott now and Moyesey walked, would you be angered and protest? I may be misinterpreting your letter, but, it seems by your reasoning you wouldn?t dream of vilifying the perpetrators and kicking up a fuss. When decent parents rant at their children for playing by the trainlines, throwing fireworks or mixing with a bad crowd, it?s because they love them and care, surely?

I sense an awful load of naivety in these posts; how sheltered is your life never to have gotten a large can of whoop arse turned on you for pissing people off? How subservient are your lives that you smile like some lickspittle and doff your caps because the man at the top tells you to? KW said this week he had received death threats, didn’t he also say "World Class stadium", "cost next to nothing" and "expandable to 75,000" just to name three other shining words of ultimate truth he is quoted as saying? As has been said eloquently enough above and in very simplistic terms, it’s now actions that count and the time for those actions is fast running out. The latest DM comments will placate many but no doubt they could also be read as semantics; would like three or four top class players doesn’t necessarily mean we will definitely get three or four top class players and the not having wads of cash can’t possibly be misinterpreted.

I feel sorry for BK. He's working 24/7 for new investments. His talking to Moyes on the phone 15 times a day. He's trying to sign new players on a hourly basis. He's a fan just like us. Poor old Bill and here?s you lot having ago. Lay off the man!!!

Poor Bill my backside ? he is the chairman of our club, it's a full-time job... he treats it like a hobby! Why no investment or new players? He won't sell his Toy train set!

I have no doubt of his good intentions as a true Evertonian, but he has no more money & a bad business head where football is concerned. We finished 5th last season with a young manager & for some reason we cannot attract any proper investment, just loans from his mates. I am sorry but this is beyond a joke.

DM has not signed his contract, preparation for the new season has been farcical, our CEO has resigned, smokecreens & mirrors have emerged & a statement from him yesterday may be ok but talk is cheap & it has come far to late to steady rocky waters. I am afraid EFC is a badly run club with a very loyal fan base who deserve much better than this & the person at the top has to be totally responsible for this pre-season debacle & the Kirkby vote which was loaded with lies on costings etc. If that vote was put out now, it would be a resounding NO!!!!!

We used to read that Deadly Doug had Villa up for sale for three years before he could find ANYBODY who actually had the £56M he was looking for. As I recall there was also a debt of £10M to be covered but their ground was in apple pie order. So with Everton?s debts alone standing at more than that combined amount and c£100M to find for stadium development wherever, I can?t see ANY prospect of Our Bill finding a buyer. Looks like we?re stuck with the bugger!

On those figures, Harry, a buyer would have to be able to invest thick end of £200M and only a Russian or a Sheik would have that much to spare. In reality, if Bill wanted out without turning a profit, the figure would only be about £15M although the new guy would have to put guarantees up for all the debts and committments re Kirkby etc.... Can?t see it happening, myself!

Harry, you are not far out with your Villa figures but under DD, Villa was a PLC and the £56M Lerner had to find was to purchase ALL the shares in the club not just Doug?s. As I understand it, he merely took over the guarantee for the £10M debt as is normal.

I do know that he first looked at Everton and, in fact, visited Goodison on a number of occasions but he always felt that you would need an open-ended cheque book to ?get things right?. As Nigel says above, I think Kenwright is stuck with our club for good or ill. (Perhaps I should have said we?re stuck with him!)

The thing that I object to most about the BK era is all the damn lies that come out of the place. We’ll bid for an Alan Smith when we’ve got no cash and no hope of getting him or we’ll contradict ourselves about contracts, players, ground moves etc. It seems that they’re incapable of telling it to us straight. If they came out and said that we’ve got no cash, I’m sure that we’d begrudgingly accept it and get behind the team. We’d rather pull together than spend what we haven’t got and go down the Leeds route.

Ok, there has to be a certain amount of spin to sell season tickets, shirts etc and Moyes is very good at playing his cards close to his chest where transfers are concerned, but straight-talking works for Harry Redknapp at Pompey or Martin O’Neill at Villa and the fans appreciate it. Why can’t we do the same?

As much as I like Bill, and as sincerely as he comes across in interviews, I find it inconcievable that he can be trying as hard as he claims to find investment for the club. Especially when all the clubs with a similar (or even lesser) heritage to ours are seen as prime commodities..Man United, Liverpool, Villa, Newcastle, Portsmouth, West Ham, Man City, Spurs, Chelsea....I guess the difference is that those clubs have predominantly been taken over, whereas Bill would appear to want someone to come in with him like a Robert Earl.

It’s great that ’proper’ businessmen like Phillip Green and Terry Leahy are associated with the club, but not so great that they’re keeping their hands in their own pockets. Perhaps these two retail giants, advisers to the club, are responsible for much of the spin?
