Crucial week

Comments (10)

This is looking to be a crucial week coming up for Everton Football Club.

Of course the Kirkby decision, which may well happen this week, is massive enough. The story in the Observer about it leading to possible takeover bids is yet another reminder of how big Kirkby is for us.

Moyes will be back in the country and possibly putting pen to paper on his new contract (though it wouldn't be surprising if that's deferred until later in the month).

We're all looking for some movement on transfers. The Johnson transfer will surely be sealed very quickly now. Moyes and Kenwright have basically put their necks on the line, saying trust us, we know what needs to be done, we have the money to do it, we'll get players in. There is huge pressure on them now to deliver. I would say that we need to complete at least one and preferably two incoming transfers by the end of the week. Moutinho and M'Bia are two obvious possibilities. But if they're not available at the price we're willing to spend, we have to move on quickly.

Getting a striker in before the start of the season must also be very high priority ? with Jutkiewicz and Agard standing by for the Blackburn game. IMO we should forget about Darren Bent - he seems very happy at the moment in a Spurs shirt, and it's unclear whether Spurs will be in a position to let him go.

Unless Moyes and Kenwright get it right in the transfer market starting from this week, we risk throwing away everything that we've worked for over the last few years, and Davey Moyes will have some very hard questions to answer. And for us to lose Moyes as well really would be a disaster for the club.

I may put a tenner on this week passing like all the rest with no news, no transfers, no take over, no Moyes contact and no decision on Kirby.

Nick - ’Of course the Kirkby decision, which may well happen this week, is massive enough. The story in the Observer about it leading to possible takeover bids is yet another reminder of how big Kirkby is for us.’

Replace ’us’ with ’Green,’ ’Earl’ ’Kenwright’
and ’Woods’ and you’ll be closer to the mark.

The reason for a takeover going ahead post Kirkby is IMO only due to the bumper payout Messrs Kenwright, Green and Earl will get after leaving us the legacy of a Mausoleum and massive debt.

They do not want to sell out before for that reason.

Kirkby will not yield any extra income over the burden of interest it is stuck with and I defy anybody to demonstrate that it will.

For a relatively small investment we could add 3,000 to 5,000 seats to GP before 2010 but that would not give the megabucks return to the Kenwright brigade.

Jay, I’ve asked you this a number of times now, but never I believed got an answer. How will securing permission to build at Kirkby lead to a "megabucks return to the Kenwright brigade"? How will this work?

This is an especially reasonable question for you, since clearly you believe that Kirkby will be a bit of a financial disaster. Why would anyone take over a financial disaster and pay megabucks for the privilege? I am still at a loss on this one.

Please try and understand and remember this as it may hopefully enlighten you and spare us the prospect of reading your ill-informed views on here time and again.

It is very, very simple Neil.

They are being given £52m for nothing....

Do you think they will sell the club for £52m less?

Didn?t think so!

Yes, this could be a crucial week, a week which does much to define next season and our future for years after. But I was really impressed by Ron?s comment at the top - nothing, as far as we are concerned, might happen. I?ve changed a couple of words, but I hope Ron doesn?t mind me making this into a tick-list so we can look back, say next Friday after 6pm to see if his tenner might have been well spent.

Crucial Week Stakes

1. News (posted on the OS about the club?s intentions)
2. Transfers (on the dotted line)
3. Takeover
4. Moyes contract
5. Kirkby decision.

It could be a good one for an office sweep.

Mark
thank you for pointing out to Neil what is patently obvious to all who never believed that "IT" was searching for investment 24/7 until the golden egg looked like hatching.
And Neil I have also asked you this question many times; How is Kirkby going to generate the extra income over and above the interest bill we will be stuck with?

Those of you who said we’ll be signing players and don’t worry be happy. Well, another weekend and pre-season friendly has gone past and no new faces. NONE WHATSOEVER. This is an absolute disgrace and I ask Everton to lock themselves in a room and get their act together. I don’t fucking care who’s to blame and who’s to shame, fucking grow up and show some responsible behaviour that your children would be proud of. Fucking unbelievable it’s like children fighting in a playground at times. Don’t come out of your room and no tea for you until you have something to show for FFS.

Mark and Jay:
How are they being given £52m ? According to Tom Hughes Tesco is " only " providing the equivalent of one stand. Must be some stand !

If anyone’s still looking, the ’fuck all is going to happen this week’ has made it through Monday - only four days to go.
