Anyone know where Fernandes is?

With our threadbare squad to lose him as well would be very bad, but I haven't heard anything about him recently and as far as I know he's not in the States. Anybody know what's happening with him?

He ceased to be an Everton player at the end of last season, Peter, when his loan deal expired. Since then he's been getting on with the rest of his life by impressing the new Valencia manager with his hard work in training. I would imagine that with Moyes targeting other players this summer that getting Fernandes back in (for the reported £6m fee it would take to sign him) isn't part of the plan.
I am completly confused by the transfer activity or lack of it at Everton! Outside of the top 4 we are the most consistent team in England in the last 5 seasons. Why are players not wanting to come to Everton?
The Fernandes link has gone very quiet, if rumors are true of £6 million why are we not signing him?
I have seen or heard very little of Moutinho until we were linked with him. Is he worth more than double Fernandes?
I do believe that we will sign 3 players and they will improve the squad. Who they will be remains to be seen!
Moyes, please put me out of my misery soon!!
Perhaps ?Fat Keith?, will sign him on loan for Mallorca?
That is if they can actually squeeze him off the plane & get him to do some work!
What's Spanish for "Who ate all the Tapas"?
According to the Telegraph fantasy football, he is an Everton player!
http://fantasyfootball.guardian.co.uk
What bugs me is the fact that the list of players that supposedly DM wants hasn?t really changed since last season ended.
Other players have been mentioned for sure but it would appear that Moutinho, M?bia and possibly Milito (especially if AJ does go) and possibly Darren Bent are his preferred targets so WHY (by all accounts) has only one offer been made for Moutinho, and (per rumours) an offer in the last few days for M?bia?
We?ve already lost Carsley (even with money and time to spare he could be irreplaceable) and we appear to have lost Manny, we could lose AJ... WTF is going on?That?s 2, possibly 3, players down before we buy one new player!!
Moutinho and M?bia could have gone on tour to the States.... why weren?t they bought prior to that? Even if we bought 4 to 6 of the best players available there is no time for them to settle in. Soooooooooooooooo frustrating!
The only saving grace is that with the possible exception of Portsmouth at home our first crunch game isn?t until September 27th... and what a crunch game that one is!

Just been told by a player I know well that we have agreed a deal with Newcastle for Alan Smith, for around £1.75mill!!! I wouldn't mind him at that price...
Im - Now you are just being silly !!!
WTF would we want to sign that TART for ?
£1.75m is too much to pay for one of the most over rated and shite players in the Premiership.
Which player told you that Im? Jimmy Hill?
Stan go back and read my other posts on this site mate, then you will know that it's not made up.
Im why has your full name not been entered as this mailbag specifies this condition to post mail! I hope you tip off is bullshit as Alan Smith is another Andy van de made of lager! A Crock of a player who is a step backwards we have better young players than him on less wages!
I tried, but I only get the word Im, but never mind. If you have your finger on the pulse then fair enough. I didn?t mean to be rude. I think it?s the prospect of Smith at Everton that made me lose it for a minute. I just hope you?re wrong this time.
Just trawled the Valencia CF site and can hardly find any mention (positive or negative) of Fernandes.
What I did find is that he played against Borussia Mönchengladbach in a friendly last week and received 104 votes in an online man of the match poll. The poll was won by their goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand though with over 500 votes. Manny was way down the list.
Oh, and Marc Williams, it would be "Quien comio todas las tapas".
Final comment, then I call it a night.
Just found that Manny has played two pre-season games for Valencia.
Came on as a sub against Bochum and lasted the entire second half. The score is unknown.
Started against Borussia and was subbed at half time in a 4 - 2 defeat.
Peter, in answer to your question, Fernandes has been given the number 29 shirt in the Valencia squad, has played two halves in pre-season games against Bochum and Borussia Monchengladbach, starting in one game and coming on as sub in the other. Interestingly, Valencia play the Barcodes in Newcastle on Saturday. Will Moyes swoop and finally give a contract to a potentially class player, who recently expressed his desire to play in the Premier League in a Portuguese newspaper. Besides, he could save Bill a few bob on airfares!
The Alan Smith rumour is true I?m afraid, my mate who works for a bookies in Newcastle texted me earlier this evening - thought it was a wind up but the Chronicle have a whiff of it now.
The Alan Smith thing is making it’s rounds all over the internet. 1.75 mill not bad for a warm body but to be fair he has looked lacking the past few years.
Moyes really wanted him bad four years ago. He may be able to get the best out of him I hope.
I read article about the barcodes the other day concerning their lack of strikers for the start of the season and it said that Smith hadn’t scored since 2005. Would he be coming in as a ’Carsley’ replacement or to play up front?
At £1.75M it's a good deal.
i?m surprised Lyndon and Michael let that post by "lm" get on the site.
Jimmy, it?s the same bloke who first revealed AJ?s medical problems at Fulham, if that helps. Do a search for Alan Wilks, which is what he should be posting under.
Please folks, a reminder: one identity only. Thanks ? The Editor
A genuine enough lad. waived his fee when transfered to Man Utd as Leeds where in bother. See Moysies thinking ahead! Can?t see him as a striker though ? only scored 2 goals in 64 appearances. If he?s buying him as the holding midfielder, what does that say about the Moutinho bid? Either its gone off the boil or it was mere posturing.
Moutinho is off the Arsenal, M?Bia is off to the Olympics and Fernandes is likely to end up somewhere else. It is telling that Moyes is now coming out with all this hand wringing just after Kenwright said don?t panic. Nil transfers nil optimism
Master stroke or master bullshitter, wonder if the signings in two weeks will disappear like every other promise from Billy Bullshitter with something along the lines of didn?t buy any players due to the club being for sale and why should he put up money if a new buyer would. Then the mystery buyers disappear and we go into the season with some half-arsed excuse from the Bullshitter that the potential buyer let him down and now there isn?t time, after all he has dragged his arse for a few months... what difference would a few more weeks make?

Alan Smith is rubbish, but at least he?ll kick shit out of our opponents in the middle of the park. I?d rather have him centre mid than Phil Neville if we really can?t get anyone else and if AJ leaves he?d also add cover upfront, not that we?d want him upfront lol. I?m surprised he?s available for that cheap, maybe it?d be worth bringing in an average prem player like him on the cheap to bring in more numbers, where every other player seems to be stupidly overpriced.
If Moyes is the super man manager that everybody claims he is then £1.75 million for Alan Smith could turn into an excellent deal. He is fairly versatile and could be an excellent foil for Yakubu in Cahill’s role when Tim isn’t available.
For what its worth, I think £1.75m for Smith is not a bad bit of business. However, is he the calibre of player that Moyes has been intimating about over recent weeks? That we wont buy fodder just for the sake buying? hhmm.
I think people should stop worrying about Neville playing in midfield - Hibbo is injured so Neville will play right back as he’s the only one other than Hibbo that can play there.
£1.75m for Smith would be good business in the current climate - he’s commited if nothing else and would be a decent player at that price tp bump up the numbers. He’s a Moyes kind of player too so i wouldnt be surprised if we do buy him.
Manny’s gone though, forget him.
Alan Smith for that price? I can't see that coming off. Newcastle had to pay £6 mill for him and there is no way they are going to lose out on that amount. I think its the same sheep shit story of every summer.
Contrary to what everyone believed, we were not close to signing him last summer because, even though the Echo had us believe we were closing in on him before he went to Newcastle, we were never in the race. Moyes had been working on the Yakubu deal for three months behind the scenes.
I guess he would be a useful signing for that money... Oh who am I kidding? At this moment in time I would take anyone who is playing football with the way our summer transfers have gone... Get him in now!!!
If Smith comes, it's a cheap gamble. Moyes likes these and usually gets the best out of them. I remember the same was said about Peter Reid. Broken legs, injury prone, underachiever etc. Give the lad a chance ? at least you know he?ll be up for a battle.
One thing to bare in mind - we only have 3 recognised senior midfielders currently available: Arteta, Pienaar & Osman, that alone makes Smith worth a punt.
Well I havent posted on here for a good long while - just been sitting back and watching the summer activity on ToffeeWeb with a mixed bag of amusement and sympathetic dispair.
Hey ho - anyway I think this Smith deal could be another blinder form Moyes. Here is a manager who has an uncanny way of turning mediocre into a solid performer. If he could do it again with Smith for £1.75m ? well it would be well worth the risk. Smith was very good when he was at his best; if he can get back to that level we?ll all be laughing for £1.75m.
I really can?t see us signing an expensive player. We just haven't got the money to take the risk. If Moutinho turned out to be a be a wet blanket in the harsh realities of the EPL, then all I'm saying is that the Gunners can afford to discover that for themselves ? we can't. I simply don't believe in a club like Everton splashing out over £10m on anyone unless they are proven/a dead cert. Yakubu for example was a dead cert ? he was a proven prem goalscorer ? and he delivered.
I have just read we might be signing Alan Smith. NO NO NO NO NO.
He is rubbish.
This man is just a thug. he didn’ score a single goal last season. He has done nothing except get booked and wind people up for the last 5 years.
the last time he played well was at Leeds when he was about 17.
If we are signing Smith then why not keep Carsley or let somebody like Rodwell have a go.
Moyes must be deeply embarrased.
While all thhe other teams are spending millions were are spending f all on a has been thug
NO THANKS
Remember the signing of Gravesen last year? I was slaughtered for saying that bringing Tommy back smacked of desperation and would prove to be a waste of a shirt number. I think I got that one right! Now our sights are being lowered by the hour.....Alan Smith the latest to be linked. Who is next? Robbie Savage? No matter how parlous the financial situation, buying has-beens and never-weres is madness. It sends a wrong signal to those younger members of the playing staff who aspire to first-team status. Year after year, these stocking fillers are preferred to the option of giving our own youth a chance.
Worse than that, some of the recruits are not worthy of playing for Everton. How many hard-working, Moyes type players do we need? If the price to be paid for finishing in the top six is having to watch some journeymen filling our team then I, for one, say that it is a price not worth paying. I challenged Moyes to prove that he is worth £60,000 per week in a recent posting. I believe that he is still a long way from being a great Manager and some of the latest rumours about potential recruits greatly disappoint.
Imagine walking to DK with NSNO on your shirt to see a team containing Neville, Smith, Butt and Savage (my flight of fancy).
If any of these rumoured signings come to pass, then Moyes might be a good Manager but he will never be a great Everton Manager. Sad to say that when it comes to understanding what some Everton supporters want in terms of style of play, Moyes just does not seem to get it.
Jimmy Bullard is being linked as well at £4m - Fulham unlikely to sell though.
Last I heard of Fernandes was that he was looking for a house in Kirkby.
Lots of negativity on here about the potential signing of Smith. Lest us forget this is a former international striker who no less a sage than Sir Alex deemed worthy of a place in his Man Utd side three seasons ago. A bad break curtailed his season and he’s since been used increasingly as a holding midfielder by Newcastle.
On this basis I’m not surprised that he’s only scored twice in two seasons. As has been mentioned £1.75 for a player of his calibre is exceptional business in anyone’s books. He’s a classic Moyes signing, will work hard, be 100% committed to the cause and most importantly adds another member to a thin squad.
I understand the Moutiniho deal will be sealed when Moyes is back from the US. He’s not the sort to sanction stuff when he’s away from his desk. However, Joao is no Carsley/Fernandes replacement - he’s another diminutive, creative midfielder.
I’m very concerned that there is no ready made Carsley replacement imminent. He WILL be missed.
Richie, you can kiss any hopes of Moutiniho signing for us goodbye, now that Arsenal have thrown their hat into the ring. Smith is a has been, who as you rightly pointed out, played for Man.U 3 seasons ago. I would bet you a pound to a penny that he wouldn’t get a contract as a programme seller at Old Trafford now.
£1.75 million for a proven premier league player would be a prudent piece of business. Also, he plays with his heart on his sleeve and I think we need a bit more of that to complement the flair side of things. One thing that does piss me off is the idea of how on earth we will ever replace Carsley? Yes he gave 110 % but he was severly lacking in quality and offered little going forward. Yes, I know he was a holding midfield player but we should be looking at someone who can break up play, pass the ball and set up attacks. I’m not knocking him, he seemed like a great guy, but finding a decent replacement is not going to be the task some might think!
Paul, there’s only one crappy website reporting that Arsenal are interested in Moutihno; are you sure you’re not confusing him with Miguel Veloso who also plays for Sporting Lisbon? Wenger has been on about him for a while now.
What about Smiths wages? He is reportedly on 40K a week at the barcodes, is he going to be willing to take a drop of 20K or even more to come to us?
Also, if the lad still had anything to offer, would they be looking to off-load him for only £1.75m? In my opinion it would be a waste of £1.75m + wages. Or, is the message being put out that we are fucking skint, and have to shop in the bargain basement?
One is enough James. I actually heard about Arsenal’s interest on Radio City this morning, and it definately said Moutiniho. I hope for our sakes it is only conjecture, but I fear it’s not, now that Barry looks on the verge of signing for the RS.
I think Manny is gone I’m afraid, shame really, excellent talent with the tools to be a top midfielder. A little raw but alot better than we currently have in central midfield.
The Smith rumours really do piss me off, do Evertonians have any ambition whatsoever. The mans a liability, a midfielder who can’t tackle and a striker who can’t score. Fucking awful player and one I don’t want to see in a Blue shirt.
For 2 million we could get a talented youngster in from the Championship or abroad, someone who can develop and actually offer us something. They’d be on alot lower wages than Smith aswell.
I’d take him on loan and even then I’d be reluctant, terrible terrible player.
I’m astounded by the negativity about Alan Smith on here. We own 4 midfield players people. Four. We are at our best with a five man midfield. We don’t even own enough players to play our preferred formation. Alan Smith is not nearly as bad as some of the posters here would have you believe. I’m not about to sing his praises or list his achievements, but to suggest we don’t want him at that price and with such a tiny squad is ridiculous. Jack Rodwell is a child, and has no chance of playing a full season in four competitions, Phil Neville will HAVE to play in midfield at the moment, probably with Hibbert at right back. I’ll take Smith, and one more as ’bad’ as him, as well hoping to sign some of the better players.
And for the record I don’t think some of us can forget Fernandes, he’s available, we can afford him, and he’s brilliant in a position where we are absolutely desperate for players. Yet another example of a player we’re missing out on and we don’t know why.
Mike, Hibbo is injured, her had a knee operation in the summer and wont play for a while; Phil Neville is our only option at right back unless Yobo plays there - that would leave Jags & Lescott at centre half with Nuno/Baines at left back. If Pi plays full back then we only have 3 midfielders in Arteta, Pienaar and Ossie - not enough either way!
I reckon I might get a game - I’m deadly in central midfield.
I’m pretty handy in the holding role actually...
From the Echo:
It?s increasingly likely that Rodwell could begin the season at the heart of Everton?s midfield although the second-half employment of Phil Jagielka in front of the back four suggests Moyes is considering his options.
?We don?t have a lot of other alternatives and I need to look at certain positions,? says the Goodison manager. ?I used Jack Rodwell for 30 minutes at right-back the other night, and I need to find out where I can put in what I have available in the squad.?
Over here David, me me me!
Piennar had potential, went crap, came to Everton cheap turned good.
Arteta had potential, went crap, came to Everton cheap turned good.
Alan Smith potential, went crap, came to Everton cheap ??????
Just a thought.
Has Smith been spotted in the Adelphi yet like last year? It’s rubbish. We won’t sign Smith because it’s obvious we aren’t signing ANYONE this summer. I’ve said it before, we won’t be signing Moutinho either. We are being used by his agent to tout him around or advertise him to the "bigger" clubs leading to us signing Fernandes on loan (similar to Lucho last year). I can’t believe how unrealistic some Everton fans are in thinking we have any chance of signing Moutinho.
Mike, maybe the negativity is down to the fact that, we were told that we would be bringing top quality players in, and with Smith, him (if the rumour is true ) and 'top quality' don?t go together.
Yeah but Brian its not like they’re paying £10M for him and saying ’here you are, told you we’d sign top quality’, we need players just to get a team out at the moment. You can moan about NOT signing X, Y, and Z but I don’t understand the moaning about signing Smith. We need at least four midfielders, do we expect them all to cost £10-15M and displace Arteta, Cahill and Pienaar?
The point I was probably trying to make Mike, is this the sign that we are skint, and this is the quality of player we can only afford to bring in?
Has anyone heard the rumors about West Ham coming in for AJ with the view of swapping him for Ashton?
There's mention of Man City wanting him, plenty about his hat-trick last night, and Curbishley saying there's no way they?ll sell him; other than that, no Chris.
Craig Bellamy got injured last night too so that gives West Ham even more reason not to sell him.
Okay Brian but I think my point holds. Put it this way, if we signed two top quality midfielders first, then Smith for £1.75M would anyone complain? I guess I’m just being positive and optimistic, I don’t know where it comes from having supported Everton for over twenty years, but there you go.
Getting back to the original post, does anyone know a reason why Fernandes hasn’t just been bought? How much are Valencia asking for him?
We really are in desperate straits; Smith is just a clogger, not a quality footballer at all. It's a case of anybody will do just to get the numbers up! How can he possibly improve our squad? If they're not good enough, don't buy for the sake of it; sooner play a young lad! At least you'll get effort.
He’ll improve our squad by being in it. We don’t have enough players.
Has everyone also forgotten about Lorik Cana? He would be perfect replacement for Carsley and has also stated he would like to leave Marseilles.
As the Editor knows, I was the one who broke the news about AJ's medical, also Allan Smith's transfer. Now for my next report............. As an old striker is on the verge of joining Fulham, one of their old strikers is also very close to joining The Toffees.
Hope this clears things up. As far as I?m aware, we had signed up to a loan with Valencia, Valencia have changed owners and required £12M-£16M depending on reports you read. Fernandes did not say he wanted to play for us and on his last season form Moyes could not justify the payment. Fernandes will probably stay with Valencia and will become a big part of the team, he has all the ability and talent. He is not coming back, he earns more with Valencia, better climate his best friend in football Miguel also plays for them.
I?ll miss all the threads if Manny returns in January? It makes no sense not buying him even with Moutinho coming, hopefully!!!, Fernandes has more guile up front. It comes down to money, Moyes said on his return in January we could not afford him, he obviously doesn?t rate him anymore and no loan can be arranged, I thought he was great myself, I feel this will come back to haunt us!!!
Just had a nightmare: Fernandes scores against us in the Uefa Cup final. If Michael or Lyndon want to organise a whiparound please contact me to fly over and collect him. One more thing, the good lady wants to come as well, hope you don?t mind, I?ll even fly Ryanair. Hope this has helped, I pray every day we?ll see him again at Everton.
Can't remember you posting last night, Vinny Bird or whatever your name is.
And Lyndon I won't be posting no more on this site and as you know both pieces of info I told were correct before even Radio City got hold of them. I was posting as a "aka" cos i didn't want to give my name out. Didn't that ever cross your mind? Wouldn't do a bank job with you.
Things are obviously told to me in confidence I just thought all us other blues would like to know.

Understood, Alan. Please see my private email.
Alan, did you say that Smith was on his way last night? It's not come true so far has it? I know the comment to the editors about doing a bank job is tongue in cheek but I would not do one with you as you get told "things" in confidence and blab it all over the net! I sincerely hope that you are wrong Alan.
Go back and read my post, where in that post does it say that hes coming today or last night?? Yes, that's right, it doesn't. All I posted was Newcastle have agreed a fee for Alan Smith, I never said he was coming at all.
And regards your last point, you have just underlined what i was saying, people who know me will know who has told me and of course the person who told me knows I'm going to tell people, hence the "aka".
Thanks Lyndon for the email.
What worries me more is that Wilksy has found out probably the only 2 dead certs - Johnson going and Smith coming. He hasn’t said anything about Moutinho or M’bia. Alan can you shine any light on any of the other transfers runmours or as we all suspect are we absolutely skint?
Hey Alan I was not being funny with you, perhaps you would like to go back and read mine as it starts with "did you say...? Have I missed something? Has the said "agreed fee" been made public or is it being kept quiet from everyone except a chosen few? Maybe as a plan C option if the list of plan B players dont come in. Don't take anything I say personnally I just want some positive news!!!!!!!!!
He doesn't know what's happening with Moutinho mate I'm afraid. I've been told that we got offered Saha for something like £2mill, and we said "no". Then Sunderland came in with stupid money, bit like the Kieran Richardson senario £8 MILL!!
Sorry Nick, I misread your post.
All I know is that we agreed a fee with Newcastle for Smith, maybe you're right, he might just be there in case Plan A fails?? If we get our first target, we may never see him. I think that's a good deal £1.75 mill, even if just to build the squad up.
As I was travelling home tonight, Radio City announce in the sports headlines that "Everton are close to their first signing of the close season!".
I listened intently only for them to bang on about Ellstone replacing Wyness. They?re even taking the piss now. Anyway, what about Steve Round and the Superlambanans, St Domingo?
It?s embarrassing.
You are not alone in being pissed off at that Ray, I heard it and started to get excited and then the bastards talk about the new CEO ? talk about winding us up, I should have known better!
I wouldn?t mind seeing Smith and Bullard putting it about a bit in the centre of the park. As exciting as Fulham?s recovery was last season, it put paid to any chance of us getting Bullard.
Smith at £1.75 mill is a snip, but if he is on £40k/week we will be putting £1.75 mill into his bank account every 9-odd months. I do like his aggression and I think he would fight gainly for the cause. To take him on, however, I reckon he should be willing to take £20k in the attempt to resurrect his career; then, if he performs, we can sweeten that later.

We can get Buckley for £1 million. Dortmund have rejected the second bid for Buckley, and it looks like Dortmund's coach want to keep his left footed player. Buckley had made some impression in England few weeks ago when a came on trails. His also starred in the team that won 2-1 against champions Bayern. It is said the player want to move, and could cost us around 1 million, if not less. I think he could be a great addition to our squad, should Moyes have a go at him?
As of today we have confirmed bids in for th following;
M'Bia (8mil eur)
Moutinho (17mil going to 21mil eur)
Topal (negotiating over 6mil eur)
Ochoa (rejected)
I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experiences and thoughts on any of the players above (most of us have seen Moutinho but not the others).
Views appreciated.
