Please God, Nooo!!!

Just when you think this summer can't get any worse, it appears we are now after Alan Smith. Now I know that bidding for Alan Smith, real or otherwise, is something of a tradition for those running the club, but this is ridiculous.

We were promised improvements to the team, top players. Smith is one-paced (and that pace is dead slow), can't pass, can't shoot, can't tackle, can't run with the ball and couldn't score in a... Well, you get the picture.

And some fans will tell you he would be a good signing because he's only £1.75m and they're getting desperate for a warm body. In my view the signing of Smith would be hauling up the white flag. It would have a negative impact on the rest of the squad, who must already be demoralised.

If the club hasn't got the money for anyone better then someone should have the guts to say so and put us out of our misery. All we get instead are mixed messages: the club is for sale, no it isn't; Moyes has the money already; no he hasn't; we need 5 or 6 players, no, it's 3 or 4; Goodison is falling down, oops, it's still there.

You couldn't run a corner shop like this and survive.

For £1.75m he could potentially be an absolute steal and could compliment the Yak with his considered style of play.

However, with Newcastle down to only one forward themselves, Smith; the fact that he hasn't scored a league goal since November 2005; and his suspect, petulent temperament, it would be appear to be a bit of a red herring.

I pesonally think for that price he would be an absolute bargain, if he is only used as a striker that is!

Why be so negative? If he was ’shit’ Fergie wouldn’t have bought him would he? I’m no Man U fan but they wouldn’t have had him if he was ’shit’ would they? I think he’d be a bargain and could be the snip of the season.

He appears to tick all the boxes of a Moyes signing though 1.75m would be difficult to pull off. He can’t be worse than Anichebe could he?

Craig - Partly agree but then would Inter have bought AVM if he was shit? Utd buy Klebersonor Saha? It doesn?t always work like that even though he was class at Leeds, Man U saw a chance for a quick bargain and snapped him up, placed him on the bench and thought his stock would rise, instead he got worse and his price went down and after a while they pawned him off to the idiots of St James?.

He?s an average player really, either a striker or doesn?t score or a midfielder who can?t tackle or pass. He fits both descriptions.

For £2 million we could go out and buy a young winger with potential from abroad or from the Championship, surely that would be better. Someone who is actually going to contribute and give us something different. I seriously don?t see what Smith would offer us.

He?s had his fair share of games upfront for Newcastle and he?s still failed to scored. He?s played upfront all pre-season and has yet to score. He just doesn?t have it anymore, I never thought he had it anyway to be honest. His goalscoring record at Leeds was also very average.

People are always ripping into Victor on here but I?d rather have him than Smith. At least Vic scores goals and can change games from the bench, he?d be more useful to us.

People talk about his passion and his aggression but he?s always used it in the wrong way. Hacking people down, getting sent off and getting booked. The mans a liability and I?d be disappointed if we signed him.

Craig, if he was any good, why would the Geordies be willing to let him go for £1.75m? You can?t even pick a half decent player from the Championship for that kind of money. His best days were at Leeds, after that, apart from scoring the odd spectacular goal, he never did anything.

Just a cheap version of James Beattie if you ask me, shite first touch and doesnt score many goals, then again he does get used in midfield a lot but then if that was the case it would be like getting Beattie and Phil Neville (to me Smith is just as good a midfielder than Neville, oh no, arrrrgh!) all rolled into one!! PLEASE dont do it Moyesy, the thought of it is enough to give me nightmares!!!!

Newcastle might find the following good reasons for off-loading Smith;

He receives wages of £60,000 per week

+ He has 4 Years of contract remaining

+ He was seriously injured in recent years

+ He cannot score

+ He cannot tackle

Under those circumstances, they should be paying us to get him off their payroll. Even then, in my opinion, that would be an offer that we could/should refuse....give one of our youngsters a chance!
