Stadium Naming Rights

Comments (30)

Reading the profile of Robert Elstone on the official site, I thought it was interesting that, in the last line, it says he is leading the search for a stadium naming partner. I suppose this puts paid to fears about the "Tesco Dome". I would have thought Tesco would take the naming rights, but apparently not.

Err, I think it's been said a thousand times: Tesco don't want nor will get the naming rights.

Agree with John, Tesco will have gotten all they want out of the deal an enabling element to get a huge supermarket, Tesco is only interested in getting their new supermarket.

Nah, ASDA name will be too prestige for the stadium. More like the Netto Dome.

You may laugh, my fellow Evertonians, but Eddie Stobart are running Tesco's distribution now. They have been bought out by a Middle Eastern company and have also bought Runcorn Docks, Carlisle Airport and Irlams Transport. Widnes rugby league stadium is the Eddie Stobart Stadium and there fans are called STEDDIE EDDIES. If they named any stadium of ours the team would have to dress in green and red kit and all players would have a woman's name written across their crotch. Also Eddie spotters would stand outside the stadium taking pictures of us as we leave. As an Evertonian working with hundreds of Mancs and red shite each day, this would be the final straw for me.

I would like to point out that when we played Colorado Rapids last week, their ground is called the ?Dick?s Sporting Goods Stadium?

Catchy eh!

How about the Bill Kenwright stadium, so that he could be forever reminded of the monumental fuck up he made.

It’ll be ’The Umbro Stadium’ or something equally as tedious, as per ’The Reebok’ etc.

You know what else? Once all this calms down and we start playing football there, people wont give a shit - life will go on, Everton will play in their new ground and most of the rest of the world wont give a shit. I speak to Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Forest, RS and Manc fans and they all think its a storm in a teacup - most of them say that us moving to a new stadium sounds like a great idea.

James... Fans of other Clubs tell you that moving to a new stadium sounds like a great idea? Well the RS would wouldn’t they?

Surely it hasn’t anything to do with any other fans - only Evertonians - and I, for one, don’t want to go.

Patty, a large proportion of Evertonians on here bleat on about it daily - they all go on about how ’other fans’ will find it hilarious - I’m erely responding to other Evertonians when I bring this up.

My point was simply that other fans aren’t that interested desppite what alot of people on here think.

I dont want us to go to Kirkby either by the way but I dont see that we have any other options - I also think it will happen, whether we like it or not.

I’ll still go if we do move.

How about the Sellout Stadium because that's what BK and the Yes voters have done. It's also ironic as Everton will never sell out a ground based in Kirkby if we did move.

James, because unless they sort out the transport links then it will be easier to goto Jerusalem. Perhaps you’re one of the 1,000 odd cyclists?
Also why would Umbro name the stadium? Reebok haven’t exactly excelled having provided Bolton with a stadium name. What about Kleenex, so those that don’t go can weep, whilst the others can venture up to the out of town wank stain.

I can't wait to go to kirkby. I have supported Everton all my life, debuting during the League Championship winning season of 69-70. I have weathered all parts of the grounds through the depressing 70s into the wonderful mid-80s, the suicidal 90s (other than 1995) and into the now increasingly optimistic millennium ? thank god for David Moyes.

All I can say is in all that time, save for a few years of glory, the rest of it at Goodison Park has been downright miserable. Bad pies, smelly bogs, wet terraces (and not just the rain), shite footy teams and crap atmospheres. Yes there are memorable nights and moments, but overall I have been subjected to misery and despair at the Old Lady ? not to mention having spent thousands of pounds in tickets.

For me I won't miss it one bit - in fact I can't bleedin' wait to get shut of the clapped out old hag. Out with the old ? bring on the new... and let's move with the times and have a venue worthy of the badge!

To all those blues on websites and radio shows that moan about going to Kirkby ? there are many more that don't bother to moan that actually don't give a toss about staying. If we had the vote again, it would be overwhelmingly in favour of going. Give it up KEIOC, donate to charity!

"We?re on our way to Kirkby, will shall not be moved!"

Chad - I was actually asking Tony directly but thankyou for your informed thoughts.

Why would Umbro name the stadium? I have no idea, I was only suggesting that ’something lke the Umbro Stadium’ is likely - it could just as easily be the ’British Gas Stadium’. I only picked Umbro because they make our kit - theres really no call for your aggressive tone either.

Given that every other cough, fart and belch that emanates from the club and its officials is critically analysed to the nth degree, I’m surprised that nobody has yet commented on the possible deeper significance of the revelation that the acting CEO "is now leading the Club?s search for a Stadium Naming partner" - the very last sentence in the biog on Robert Elstone.

Now... why would he and the club be going to that trouble if DK was getting called in...?

James,
If you are going to make suggestions and/or sweeping statements then expect them to be criticised or at very least questioned.

I do agree with you on one thing though... that a lot of others team’s supporters’ aren’t interested or particularly bothered where Everton play football, except the RS perhaps for further wind ups. Many therefore will be illinformed if know any detail at all... but then why suggest that because these people think it would be a "great idea" that we as fans should?

You state yoursef that you don’t want to go, but then look into your crystal ball that it "will happen" and then ask Tony Marsh how he knows that a stadium in Kirkby will not be full.

However, you probably now think I’m being a tad aggressive. Perhaps you’re right or maybe it’s just a "storm in a teacup"... why not ask your friends?

My understanding and impression from the last AGM was that the naming rights (and the income for them) were going to Robert Earl.

As for the name - I don’t see why they can’t call it what they have been calling it all along - DK - Desperation Kirkby (we can sell cow pies ?)

Chad you appear to be spoiling for a fight mate!

I was asking Tony because he often comments on these matters then buggers off without backing them up.

I didn't make any comment about Evertonians thinking it was a good idea, and I wouldn't dare suggest that it was - I actually think its a bad idea; I was merely stating the opinions of (less informed) fans of other clubs.

All my comments, including the ?storm in a teacup? one come from other people who support other clubs. I don't expect Evertonians to feel the same, I was simply pointing out the fact that other people aren't that arsed, yet many people on here are dead scared that we?ll be a laughing stock.

That's not necessarily the case.

I also don't think it's a storm in a teacup, you cleary read my post all wrong mate - just to clarify ok.

I think the ground should be named in Bill's honour in recognition of what he's done so how about The LIARS DEN OR THE LIARS LAIR seems about right. Or how about Mushroom Park as we are always left in the dark etc.

Don't matter now as it might as well be called after the ?flat house? in Tuebrook as the Govt have called it in and that is what it will remain!

Bye bye to the new and back in with the old.

Look forward to mid table mediocrity for several more years yet. Congrats to KEIOC you have helped keep us in the last century for a lot longer. If I was BK I would say balls to the lot of you and go back to selling panto tickets.

A bitter blue for longer.

I spoke to a man in the business end at Goodison who told me they were working with Chang on a name and that ?Chang Park? had come up. Not definite. As they are looking for 25 mill there is a small number of possibilities. It has to be a bank or a multi-national. Paddypower Stadium and Pukka Pie stadium are therefore out of the question, thank God. I have always preferred Asbodome myself.
