Respect the Ref - We do...

Comments (16)

I was watching Sky Sports last night (for my sins) to see how the 'gers and our friend Walter got on and there was a piece about the new FA campaign - 'Respect the Ref. An interesting stat that they came up with was that out of all the teams in the Prem last year, Everton was the only one to not recieve a single booking for foul and abusive language (I think the Arse were top with 9...).

I think this is something that we should be very proud of cos I get sick of people mouthing off to the referee a la Terry, Cole, Mascherano, Gerrard etc... It is this lack of respect that brings the game into disrepute and it then gets passed down to grass roots level and onto the kids which is never going to be a good thing.

I think the fact that we did not get any bookings for this type of thing is a testament to David Moyes and the mentality he has instilled in the club. It also seems to be a reflection of his character as he is seemingly a decent bloke who has a great attitude.

Let's hope that he can instill the same virtues into Moutinho for the coming season...

Oh great, stiff upper lip and not awarded a penalty until the last game of the season, respect my arse, these "professional" idiots want to do the job properly - respect is earned NEVER demanded.

You don?t seriously expect to see Moutinho in an Everton shirt do you? From past experience if a player is listed as a target on the OS then it aint happening!!

How many times did the men in black not give us the respect we deserve last season?

This has to be the worst pre season in memory. Really not looking forward to the new season with our very small squad!

I went to the bookies to ask what odds I would get for Gerrard to get booked next time he flies in the refs face, and the girl behind the counter said I could have whatever odds I wanted!

I?ve decided.... I?m going mental.

I can?t stand this situation: one report, one rumour changes everything.... one interview changes everything..... rumours, rumours, gossip, BS, BS, BS...

Kenwright interviewed last night as though there was nothing wrong, calm as you like, singing DM?s praises (rightly so) but you wouldn?t think our first game was ten days away and we have LESS players than the end of last season and no new players!

I know this has been talked to death on multiple postings but I can only think that something is holding us up spending money or we haven?t got any money. I assume it?s the former but either way this is NO WAY to run a club. And I like BK!

As to Alan Smith, I have no problem with him. I think he?d be a good addition ? not the kind of addition we?re all praying for I admit but as a decent squad player, adding depth/choice etc, not bad. Moyes can perform a miracle on him!

Getting back to Tom?s post: at least that is something we can be proud of... I think the way certain players crowd the ref at every call (The RS being a prime culprit!) is despicable and it is spoiling the game; red-card the frigging lot of ?em I say! Ref?s do screw-up but the behavior of some players is no better and is part of the whole ref problem.

On a lighter note: I thought the "respect the ref" video was rather amusing!

FFS What has happened to Evertons fan base??? There is so much naievety and acceptance of Bullshit it makes me wanna puck. I can't get my head around the fact that some of you are prepared to put up with Alan Fucking Smith, old peg leg himself. This joker couldn't score in the Chicken Ranch with $10.000 in his back pocket. Please spare any more of this fucling nonesense.

If Moyes signs Smith then he is a Tosser. The Phil Neville extension was bad enough but NOT Smith ? he really is Shite. Just ask any Geordies you might know.

Fat lot of good it did us having such a good reputation.... one penalty all season and loads of refs? decisions which should not have gone against us. Perhaps we should start the bullying tactics that Man U players and Gerrard etc. employ - it seems to work.

Andrew Flanagan hit the nail on the head - "Nice guys finish last". The whole respect the ref stats that have been branded around quite rightly show the teams that have the worst record but what about actually praising us on what we achieved? I saw the same article on Sky Sports news and there was the Arse on top of the list for most cautions but how about instead of just saying "And Everton didn?t get a single yellow all season" maybe saying something like the rest of the Prem should take note of what we?ve managed to do and praise us. I don?t know maybe even put our name up in lights and draw attention to it. But of course not, it?s because we?re not one of the Sky 4, that?s right...

Lets be honest, Bill is an actor at heart; switch the camera on and watch him perform. Hey, what has truth got to do with it? He's lied to us for years and has no reason to stop now. We might well have a couple of signings lined up as he says, the press have not got hold of, properly because they are that poor no one would link is with them. I feel for Moyes, every year he makes do and keeps us going with hope that a couple of close season signings and we will get the top 4 then Bill comes in and smashes the dream again. It's like groundhog day.

Tony Marsh,

once you finish your ice hockey, I did. Geordie fans said he isn’t a striker. Also spoke to Man U fans, they rated him as a defensive midfielder but not as a striker. Reckoned he was a better stopper than Hargreaves.

Still what would they know?

Getting back to what Tom said back up the top - yes, I am proud that under Moyes our players don’t get booked for dissent. I think, that if we had needed it, we would have got into Uefa through the fair play league this year.

Anyone who has said that the cheating bastards like Gerrard get away with it day in day out, in my opinion, are right. Refs are intimidated by the likes of him. AJ gets cut off at the knee in the box and has ’dived’.

Respect should be a 2 way street - but it don’t work that way.

Puck, by the way, was the ’mischievious spirit’ in A Midsummer Nights Dream. Is that what Tony Marsh meant?
