Under promise, over deliver

Such a simple sentiment, perhaps this summer would have been different for Everton fans if it had been followed in May:

1) Move to Kirkby
ACTUAL: Deal of the century
PREFERRED: Democratically (?)voted-for arrangement (lets not turn this into a ground debate).

2) Transfers
a) Quantity in
ACTUAL: 5-6 players
PREFERRED: We are looking to add to our squad throughout the summer but are on a limited budget so will not be buying anyone unless the manager is sure that they will improve our current playing staff.

b) Quality in
ACTUAL: Moutinho, Arshavin, Ramsey
PREFERRED: Dos Santos, Gudjohnson, Albeda (ie realistic targets)

c) Budget in
ACTUAL: £20-£30m
PREFERRED: We currently have a limited budget but will endeavour to raise money that can be spent wisely by our manager.

d) Sales
ACTUAL: AJ is leaving for £13m
PREFERRED: We will be lucky to receive £5m up front for AJ.

3) Manager
ACTUAL: David Moyes is about to sign a contract
PREFERRED: We are doing everything in our power to persuade David Moyes to sign a contract.

4) Sale of Everton
ACTUAL: Bill wants to sell but will only do so to the correct investors
PREFERRED: At present no one is interested in purchasing Everton football club.

And so on.....

If we weren't left expecting great news at every corner the it wouldn't be so hard a pill to swallow when it doesn't arrive. We all know better than to expect it, yet I for one certainly hold out a little hope on the back of each 'official' announcement by EFC.

So, when is that 24 hours up?

Hey it just gets better doesn’t it, give that Elstone geezer some credit for coming out and saying the new stadium is critical and 45 minutes later it gets called in! He’ll probably leave now, what’s plan B? Isn’t Moyes great! You can say all you want about our lack of money but the least he could have done is brought a couple of players in on the cheap but no he signs no-one and then sells our only other senior striker just over a week before the start of the season! Well done! I’ve been told not to panic though because unlike our other players who have left AJ will be getting replaced with Alan Smith! That’s a real improvement isn’t it!

I’m not usually one to buy into the latest tabloid speculation but I do find the latest link to Alan Smith quite worrying. Shades of Neville all over again. Is he a striker or is he a midfield player? He certainly isn’t half the player he was prior to his injury. Unable to score a goal and even less able to to make a tackle. I really do hope this is yet another piece of tabloid nonsense. Otherwise we really are in a mess.

Yeh but the thing is we need someone and if we really can’t afford anyone else he’ll have to do because we simply need numbers!

I’d rather throw one of the youngsters straight in at the deep end then sign that shit cunt!! even to make the numbers up he’d be a waste of money!!!

Arteta 14 mil
Lescott 10mill
The Yak 15 mill
Cahill 12 mill
Howard 10 mill.

Hey at this rate we will be able to redevelop Goodison Park.

Yippee I can sleep at night now.

The latest news on Alan Smith (according to my newspaper) is that £3million is the cost and depends upon Smith accepting a wage cut of £20,000 p.w. from his current wage of £60,000 p.w.

Does anybody out there really think that a Club that is so obviously skint should be paying out such money for a striker/midfielder(?) who failed to score a single goal in 37 outings. It is time for a bit of honesty from the Club and some realism from the fans! If our finances are in such a parlous state then the fans should be demanding that what little money is available is spent more wisely than this.

I repeat that I would prefer to see one of our youngsters encouraged than to be spending money on the likes of Smith. Young as they are, I bet Vaughan, Anichebe, Baxter and Jukebox would each provide a better goals return than the peroxide one is capable of producing. Save your(our) money Mr.Moyes and batten down the hatches for a rough (but not necessarily poor) season.
