AJ Gone, 10.5mil spends?

Comments (15)

According to sky sports AJ has officially (eventually) been sold for initial fee of £10.5mil.

Not a bad fee at-all when you think when we signed him he was considered a future England international, and 2 years later he is considered a failed England international. I just wonder if we'll spend more than 10.5mil this summer? I honestly cant see it. With Sky money used up, no forseeable investment i cant see us signing anyone big.

I believe Moutinho was a honest bid, however it was dependant on a club takeover in forseeable future (we buy him for £16mil, give sporting a few mil now and the rest over the course of his contract. This is why foreign players are so popular.) thus any prospective owner would pay for him, not BK.

So for Alan Smith and a bunch of other ok but not that good squad bulkers. Actually I wonder what the odds are for a quadruple signing of Smith, Nugent, Richardson and Koumas? after their exploits last season maybe we could get all of them 'cut-price' one year after first trying.

Conformation this morning that Aj has finally gone to Fulham. It is being passed around that the fee was around £10.5 mill as an initial fee. Now I THink that has been a great sale for that price given that it looked like we were only going to be receiving £5 mill initially. I also hope that this means we will actually sign a player before the years end.

Also I thank AJ for his commitment to the Everton cause as he was always a hard working player. He contributed to one of the best Derby memoiries in my Evertonian life (I'm only 16) when we smashed the shite 3-0. He also scored the first goal against Fiorentina and 22 from 74 is decent given more than halkf those appearances were off the bench.

So well done AJ.

So AJ has moved on, as we all knew he would. Good luck to the lad. Anway, this is not the point of my post - rather, it seems that all of the news outlets (check the NewsNow site to get them all together) are reporting the initial fee to be around £10.5 m, with add-ons for appearances, goals etc. I think this is an excellent bit of business and it looks like we held firm over Fulham's ridiculous demands of lowering the initial fee to £7m (as had been widely reported). Let's hope this opens the floodgates for incoming transfers [holds breath......]

Andrew Johnson has now signed for Fulham for an undisclosed amount - estimated at £10.5m. Good luck to him - I thought he played well for Everton, always trying, with an excellent attitude. Unfortunately his goal tally was not acceptable for a goalscorer and now's the time to replace him with that attribute. The question is - where from?

Yeh great news well done Everton. Who can we sell for a good price next? Just the one available forward now then-the Yak, let’s hope he doesn’t get injured against PSV or big trouble, we’ll have to play Jutkiewictz or Baxter! It’s orite saying we got a good price for him, but the reality is we’ve got an even smaller squad now and I honestly can’t see us bringing in another forward better than or as good as Johnson, so why sell him? It’s another step backwards unless we bring a top class striker in to replace him. Mcfadden, Wessels, Carsley, Fernandes, Gravesen and AJ have all left and we’ve brought no-one in to add to our squad from last season. Did anyone else see how much we struggled at the end of last season with our lack of numbers, injuries and Uefa Cup campaign? Well all Moyes has done at the moment is make it worse by making the squad even smaller! It’s about time he signs someone or he needs sacking! There’s not much money available but lets face it he could bring a few decent players in on the cheap for numbers and experience on the bench as back up. I’m not prepared to watch Everton later on this season with the likes of Rodwell and Gosling playing week in week out in vital games because Moyes was too thick to bring players in. No offence to the youngsters, but we need proven quality who have experience of playing in the Premier League in big games. Get your act together Moyes!

I know I am only a mere female who likes to think she knows something about footie, and much as I liked Andy - a goal tally of 22 goals in 74 games doesn’t grab me at all - not really a good ratio for a striker surely?

AJ is a striker. Strikers, well good ones anyway are supposed to score a decent amount of goals. Johnson didn?t. End of as far as I am concerned. With add-ons, £13 million for someone who is avarege at best, happy days. But ye, we do not new players...and fast!!

Exactly Patty, and although you’re only a mere female you’re absolutely right - its great business considering we bought him for £8.6m, thats almost £2m mark-up in 2 years. Thanks Fulham.

Despite that, one has to question it, I mean he was the only player we had with any pace so we’ll now be even more pedestrian than we were before. Not only that but we’re severely lacking in bodies, and will be lucky to put out a senior side against Blackburn.

We seriously need to buy Alan Smith, Moutihno (hahahah) and Milito (hahaha again), these 3 would be a huge boost, but then so would a flying pig.

Oh yeah, and Lorik ’The Destructor’ Cana is another name to watch out for - Albanian lad who looks class and wants to leave Marseille; of course if its a choice between us and Arsenal as is being reported....

Anthony,

I take it you were joking about Moyes. He knows who he wants that he thinks will make Everton better, but there are obviously a lot of other factors to take into account e.g. money avaialable, other clubs haggling over the price, greedy agents, players demands, etc. But I completely agree on the need for more players, if we don?t get them, 4th/5th may be tough to get.

I would say he has gone for far less than £10m, more like 7-8m, hence why it is an undisclosed amount, and to be going after Smith after this long smacks of no money what so ever.
Five or Six top notch players hahahahah.

I don’t think we should be calling this good busines yet, this has the potential to be a great bit of business but if we bring in alan smith and one more squad player of average talent we have really shot ourselfs in the foot.

Im sure everyone here can appricate what AJ brought to the team in terms of hard work and creating space and whos going to do that now? Vic and Vaughan are good but still too raw and Yak one lazy but lethal dude! I have faith in Moyes but not the board. Basically im saying don’t rejoice yet because our squad is even weaker today than it was yesterday and no has been magpie is going to make it any better!

We’ve now received nearly £17m for McFadden and AJ.

From a purely financial view that’s great business, but if we don’t replace them what’s the point?

Good Luck AJ. Sorry it didn’t work out.

22 from 74. Anyone have a list of the assists we contributed to the 22? Does the ’assist’ by Pip against Wigan count?

AJ was only 8m. ONLY 8m. Let’s go for Torres who’s got a better goal return. Could it be a fact that it’s difficult to score goals in this league? Difficult to create chances? So a 4m striker would score 11 goals heh? 2m for 6 goals? Any striker under 10m won’t score consistently in this league, unless you have Arsenal backing you up in midfield. Oh btw your life has been made even harder as Everton play 1 up front and half the players only hoof.

Half the time AJ was played out of position as a winger and defender up the field. Half the time he was fed scraps. Yet no complaints and hands over hips like Anichebe. What do we do? We fucking ridicule him. A championship player from Crystal Palace.

Go sign Torres then.

Our biggest security this season is that the three teams promoted to the premier in 2008, will be relegated again at the end of this term, because the three teams relegated this year were a lot better than these average sides who have came up, and we shold finish a lot higher than them even with no new additions to the squad? So hurry up the Everton academy players and reserves and grow up fast and very skillfull because their should shortly be a first team place and plenty openings for you, if you can make the grade and the quicker the better for all concerned!!!!!!!!..
