John Paul Kissock

Just wondering what happened to this guy? He was having good reports from north of the border on how he was doing, and I was expecting to see something from him this pre-season especially with the midfield being as small as it is.

Also on a similar note, what is happening with Scott Spencer? Is he any good and has he got a chance of playing this season?

They both played in the reserve match against Accrington Stanley as part of an "Everton XI' last week, Spencer scoring the opener. We had a link to a report on the old Official Site but it appears to have been junked as part of the latest website revamp. Kissock may play a part in today's game but when you say "small midfield" ? the lad is unfortunately the epitome of that, being five-foot nothing in his stocking feet!

I found this report on the EFC site...............

If you looked at Wednesday?s football fixtures in the local press, you?d see a match advertised that involves a team who?ll be playing at Goodison on Saturday.

Yes, PSV v Newcastle. You?ll also see that The Peoples? Republic of China Ladies team were due to play Sweden Ladies in Group E of the Olympic Games Women?s Football Competition. You?d even be able to make note of the fact that Bridlington Town were playing a representative Chesterfield XI (Kick off 7.30) What you won?t have seen advertised was the fact that Everton Reserves were playing Accrington Stanley.

Now I know it?s only the reserves, but I couldn?t find any mention of it anywhere. Plenty of coverage of Everton, but nothing of an actual game of football involving them.

Now as much as I accept that, so far this has been a ?summer of discontent?, it does seem that a little perspective is called for.

As it happens it was an excellent performance with a real standout from JP Kissock, who seems to have rekindled his confidence and was supremely effective and literally back to his old tricks. Also outstanding was young James Wallace and the ever improving Eunan O?Kane. Everyone played well in a 3-0 victory over league 2 opponents (That?s a league above Cambridge, remember)

Now I?m not trying to kid anyone that this performance, great as it was, means all is well in the blue camp. But it was superb, so at least I looked forward to some coverage the following morning.

Today, I look again at the local press. Understandably lengthy coverage of the stadium issue.Lengthy coverage of Man Utd v Juventus, but any mention of the outstanding Kissock? None that I can find.

Playing with brilliance in a reserve game does not mean that our problems are over, but the fact that such an outstanding performance is all but ignored is ridiculous.
