£13M bid for Moutinho
Comments (66)
Reports in Times and then on the Rumour Mill state we have upped our offer.
Don't get me wrong, I dont understand the full structure behind the modern transfer system and I'm 100% sure it ain't like it is on FM. However why has this upped bid taken 1+ weeks after the first was refused?
If the club are working 24/7 and the funds are in place, etc ? why take a week to did £1.2M more than previously (its obviously going to be rejected). If it were 1 July, then I may understand, but if this guy is our Number 1 target (reports from club and media suggest so) then surely a little more urgency would be required. Why does it take so long to bid for a player if the funds are in place, and also why make bids we know will be rejected i.e. we received £13M for AJ (in total) so how do we assume that £13M will suffice for one of the best young midfielders in Europe when the club has no financial or football reasons to sell him.
If we offered £13M the day after £11.8M was rejected I'd say ok, don't just jump up but surely after a week of deliberation and discussion then a more serious offer should have been made? It will take £15mil at least to get him.
I don't believe this is a 'phantom' bid, I do believe it's genuine; however, I feel it shows that this club is rather inept at transfer dealings (like we needed any more evidence) and it must prove that the 24/7 statements are far from the truth.

It is becomeing tedious but it's now 2 weeks since I watched the youth team against Forest. Everyone commented then on our threadbare squad yet still no signings.
It is now 3 weeks since we 'bid' for Moutinho yet he still hasn't signed. I had a bet on here about 4 weeks ago saying Moyes won't have signed his contract and the only player we'll have signed will be Manny on loan by the start of the season. We won't have even signed Manny. I'm starting to think it's the Kirkby debacle that's been used as a smokescreen for the fact we won't be signing anyone this summer.
Does anyone still believe we might actually sign someone this summer?
I hear Moutinho has a clause in his contract, effectively meaning Sporting have to give him 10% of any rejected bid (why Sporting would agree to this in the first place is beyond me) so if this is true, they’re not in a position to keep giving us the KB.
I also think after Kirkby, the board are very eager to allay some of our fears so will pay silly money to get him, if it will shut us up for a while.
The longer we piss about with these low bids for Moutinho the more likely it’ll be that someone else will snatch him from our grasp. If we want him, pay the going rate and stop trying to be cheap!
He’s milking them for more money off rejected transfers.. If this fails, perhaps third time lucky!?
I don´t know about you lot but I´m getting increasingly agitated for a signing. There have been a hellavu lot of "hours" since Kenwrights speech last week, remember he said that EFC were working on an hourly basis to bring in reinforcements?
The bit is 17mil euros rising to 20mil with 1.5 mil for agents fees.
All submitted last monday....
I’d hate to have some of you lot negotiating with my money. In a high stakes negotiation, you don’t rush your fences and you don’t go in with you best offer straight away.
The problem Everton and all football clubs have is that, once it becomes a publically held negotiation, the dynamics change; a key one of which is that everyone, especially supporters, get edgy and impatient.
I do agree though with a view that says we shouldn’t know about the deal til the player’s holding the shirt for the photo; that way our competitors don’t know either.
it is my understanding that he is due on merseyside tomorrow, and to have a medical over the next few days. remember the name vinny, vinny brd.
Whilst there is a logic of not telling the world and his dog how much cash you have in the bank before you go to buy something, it’s been THREE MONTHS since the end of the season and as I post just one week until the start of the season. I don’t want to hear the window closes in so many weeks as by then we will have played three games and should be nine points better off. If they can afford the player, get it done and dusted quick and let the fees leak out later, alternatively you could do it "the Everton way"; drag your arse, look completely amateur at every single thing to do with the club and withdraw or miss out through all the pissing about.
A player can be bought and sold sharpish if the people involved stop all the piss farting around and just get on with the job. The stalling stinks to high heaven of more of BK’s annual cringeworthy acting at being a businessman. KENSHITE wake up and sort it out or piss off.
I understand Pini Zahavi is in charge of this one. The deal will be done if there is a deal too be done, this bloke is a master of the dark arts of transfer negotiating.
Where do you get your information Vinnie. id love to believe you but i dont!
I’m willing to bet anyone here, that if we sign this guy it will be late on deadline day after every last penny has been squeezed out by both clubs.
Just wait and watch Moutinho sign for Arsenal a few days before the transfer window closes, it will just be typical Everton arsing about with bids that they know the selling club, in this case Sporting Lisbon, will not accept for their star player and Arsenal or someone else will finally come in and say ’thankyou very much’.
andy, i cant say mate, but i put it on here about ajs medical, and allan smith, before it came out on the radio and tv. honestly he is due on merseyside tomorrow.
To be fair to Vinny, he?s the only one out of the fairytale brigade whose been accurate, rather than a sad little attention seeker. Will you come on here Vinny and tell us why he?s not having his medical on Monday if that?s the case?
Okay, Vinnie I'll take your word for it mate. I still think we won't get him though but I'd love to be proved wrong. What's happened to Smith anyway? It's all gone quiet on that one...
Moutinho and M?Bia are both having medicals booked for Monday. Moutinho's medical is three days long, so I don't know if he would be available for Saturday
Who else are we signing Vinnie and when?
Mike, Alan has answered it for you. He is due here tomorrow and will have his medical over the next few days. Fingers crossed.
Why will one player's medical be for 3 days and another for one day??
Vinny,
Is Moutinho flying straight here after Sporting’s game tonight ?
He’s in the starting line up.
Can we please have an end to these nose tapping attention-seekers* and their blatant nonsense*
*If he does have a medical tomorrow (and I’d love it to happen), I’ll gladly look you upan apologise in person.
Why does that seem out of the ordinary John? He's in Portugal not Australia ? 2 hours on a plane mate and as I've said before, go and read my other posts on this forum. Both Lyndon and Michael will back me up check dates posted then check when the story broke ? "attention-seekers* and their blatant nonsense"??
If anyone knows anyone who works or lives near John Lennon Airport, I want photographic evidence of Moutinho in the arrivals lounge.
Also how can M'Bia arrive for a medical, I thought he was in Beijing?
Alan, Mbia is in China at the Olympics so I don’t want to rubbish your story but it seems unlikely that they would allow him to fly a 24 hr round trip in a 72 hr time period.
Might be bullshit Mike, but all the other things he's told me have been true mate, just have to wait and see...
Fingers crossed hey Alan - that it is true.
Does anyone have an update on the Alan Smith transfer - it?s gone very quiet?
Fingers crossed hey Alan - that it is true.
Does anyone have an update on the Alan Smith transfer - it’s gone very quiet?
Serious bids by clubs result in signings..Villa have signed 3 new players including 2 in a week..Shorey and Young..thats how its done..Redknap is a master at quick moves in the transfer market..we carry on like its bargaining at an Arab souk..if EFC are really serious about getting people who are really good then they would have moved ages ago. We take an absolute age in negotiating every move..I reckon BK is going to sign someone before the EGM so that he can placate some of the fans...BUT who, that is the question ?? I read comments from some fans recently with brave optimism for the coming season even though we have no new players..it is common sense that every top side buys while they are at the top..to stay there..we seem to just breed complacency. The fans NEED a new hero to lift the spirits and justify optimism...if we could find another gem out of the youngsters we have, then that would be a bonus..but we need a top player NOW to excite the fans and fill goodison park.
Mike Whittaker,
It will probably take Everton a week to up their £1.75 million bid to £2 million.
Alan,
As I’ve already said, I want to believe you, but M’bia is in China for the olympics and surely Sporting wouldn’t agree a fee for Moutinho and then play him in a friendly 24 hours before he’s due to have a medical ?
I’ve just heard too many ’dead certs’ from too many different sources on this and other message boards and none (not one) has ever turned out to be accurate.
If i’m wrong and Moutinho has his medical on Monday, then I will gladly apologise. I won’t be holding my breath though.
I was generalising with the ’attention seeker’ quote. It wasn’t aimed specifically at you or your contribution. Apologies for any offence taken.
Heard that Beneathus is in the process of signing a mid-fielder and not the obvious one. When questioned about his identity he refused to comment. Is it a coincidence that Moutinho is supposedly on Merseyside at the same time? I hope so but frankly it wouldn’t supprise me and it certainly wouldn’t be the first time. Poaching is the Fat Spanish Waiter’s favourite form of cooking.
Nobody plays in a friendly 24 hourse before starting a transfer...
Remeber AJ last week...?
Its pure Bullshit..... AGAIN!!
Vinny what will wednesdays winning lottery numbers be?
Well another season, and the same old story, one week to go, no new sighing's, and playing five of the kids in the pre-season. Moyes has still not signed up and the Board have still not put their hands in their pockets as usual. Oh and four player's gone. I think Moyes is in for a hard season and it will be his last; the Board are still not backing him even after what he has done, and I do not believe anyone wants to invest in us, they would sooner put their money in some of the smaller clubs.
Kenwright and the Board: do us all a favour ? go before we lose one of the best mangers we have ever had.
Rab C Nesbitt is due on merseyside this week for fresh talks with David Moyes after a bid of £95,000 was turned down last week.
The 34-year-old Stenhousemuir central midfielder is seen as an ideal replacement for the void left by Lee Carsley. Nesbitt is a former captain of the Scotland B team and is a close friend of ex-Everton legend Ian Wilson.
What I don't understand is if Sporting have to pay Moutinho 10% of any bid over ?15mill they have rejected, why don't we just offer ?15mill followed by ?15.05 mill followed by ?15.1 mill and so on and so on and so on. They would have to accept by the time we offered ?15.45 million they would end up owing him ?15 mill plus. I should be the next CEO!
I don?t think it?s too unreasonable for M?Bia to leave his squad for a quick trip for a medical. He has reported he wants to come and his Dad has seconded it. I don?t think this is a long shot. I trust Alan on this one.
However, Moutinho is a different story if he is due in Monday which isn?t too far you're right but he's just been playing in a friendly ? highly unlikely.
Smith and M?bia I would be made up and save some cash for the middle of the year.
Does a player have to come to Merseyside for a medical? Surely, we could send a physician out to China to examine M?Bia? That is plausible, no?
Johnny, that’s for formal rejections, apparently we’re doing ’casual’ negotiations with them so they haven’t had to formally reject an offer meaning that they don’t have to pay him (Sneaky gits)
With Johnson I think we wanted rid for funds wher as Sporting do not want to sell Mountinho so they would natrually play him in a friendly. I guess we have to wait another 48 hrs!!!!!!!!!
It is a very true point that someone made about serious bids resulting in signings being made quickly. Two days after we heard of Tottenhams interest in David Bentley, he has signed for them, and the same for Villa signing their players. With Everton, all we ever really see in papers or teletext is the word ?monitoring? as though we are watching some sort of egg-hatching process and it's the same with Moutinho. It's just monitor monitor monitor then bid nowhere near what he?s worth to Sporting then go back to monitoring and mulling over whether to bid again and that will take about another 7-10 days of monitoring before we up our bid by half a million knowing once again it won't get accepted... honestly it's almost laughable sometimes watching the summer transfer activity.
And then, once this summer transfer window has closed and we haven't spent the £10, 15 or 20 million we had, we will all sit back patiently and wait for the same thing to happen in January, a time when Moyes almost annually says that January is a terrible time to conduct transfers!!!
My advice to people expecting a flurry of incoming tranfers like Moutinho, Smith, M'Bia or anyone else is to take it with the smallest pinch of salt. In the meantime take whatever people say on here and also Dominic King (Echo Correspondent) with an even larger pinch of salt. According to Dominic King in the Echo we have been close to signing numerous players that never come off (and even talking about Alan Smith on Thursday). He gets most of his information from the Newcastle Gazzette...
Moutinio scored a penalty vs Sampdoria last night.
Im sorry if this offends. However I just cannot believe that Moutinho is due in for a medical on monday. Alan Smith might but not Moutinho. Sporting have always maintained he is not leaving, and Everton have only made token bids as per the usual. M'Bia may be interested but I can't see him flying around the world for a quick medical on Monday, then fly back.
God, I would love to believe that Moutinho and M'Bia are going to sign, but that cell in my brain (the one that tells me to get a grip and remember that this is Everton we are talking about....) says otherwise.
Personally I see a season of mediocrity in front of us. Am i being too cynical?
Paul Jones, no I don?t think you are being too cynical. While we have Kenwright at the helm of the club, we will always be like this. year after year. He is not the person to run such a great club and have the respect of such a great fan base as well. As I have said earlier, we will lose Moyes if this goes on he needs good investment to make us great again. We can all see it but Kenwright is just putting his head in a hole and hiding.
So come on Kenwright ? do us all a favour and resign.
And if there is any billionaire out there, please come and get us instead of investing your money in these smaller clubs (like Liverpool).
Who’s Trevor Green?
Has Moutinho been spotted at the airport yet? The same one Riquelme flew into?
Trevor Green must be the invisible son of Phil Green who is currently so concerned about EFC that he and Earl are sailing round the Med in his Yacht.
So much for Kenwright claiming Paul Gregg didnt care.
From the BBC site :
Everton boss David Moyes is hoping to end a summer of transfer frustration by closing in on three new signings.
CSKA Moscow’s Brazilian striker Vagner Love could join either on a season-long loan deal or permanent move.
And BBC Sport understands negotiations are continuing in a bid to bring Newcastle’s Alan Smith and Rennes midfield man Stephane Mbia to Goodison.
Everton, however, are struggling to land top target Joao Moutinho because of Sporting Lisbon’s £18m asking price.
Why would CSKA Moscow allow there best player to leave on a season long loan! Doesnt make sense and we couldnt afford him anyway. I think ther want about 16 million for him. More rubbish from the press.
FFS! This is going to be the longext week in our lives!
Just checked Liverpool John Lennon Airport website for arrivals. And there is a flight that landed at 14:45 this afternoon from Lisbon...... Could Moutinho been on that flight??????? Does any one know any one who works in Speke Airport???
We dont need a £16 million pound striker - we need a £20 million pound investment in our midfield. If this rumour is true (which I doubt) - its very worrying. Why would we want a £30 million pound strikeforce when due to our weakness in midfield we can only play one up front?!!
Btw why is Bill asking for a billionaire to come forward when he has the ear of two anyway in Green and Earl?
We already have more than £16 mil from the sales of McFadden and AJ plus the wages saved by releasing Wessels, Gardner, Gravesen, Carsley and very probably the annual cull of our youngsters. All the NEW clubs in the premier have bought and Stoke have spent over £8 mil..Sunderland, Fulham, Wigan have all spent money. Im not including the top teams like Villa and Spurs who have spent lots.. We finished well above all these sides last season and yet we cry poverty..GIVE ME A BREAK !!
Nil Satis Nisi Optimum website - "Everton believe they are close to signing four players before the end of the transfer window, with the names Smith, M’Bia, and Moutinho being among the favourites to sign on the dotted line. The club have made no secret that Moutinho is highest on their priority list, and although Sporting are pulling out all the stops to keep him in Portugal, it is believed that Everton will eventually win out and bring him to Goodison Park. Smith was a target of Moyes’ twice in past summers, and at a knock-down price and with a hard-work ethic already built-in, Moyes will be reluctant to let him slip by his grasp again. Keegan may be playing hard-ball, but Mike Ashley is in charge at Newcastle. M’Bia may take longer to arrive, what with him playing at the Olympic games, and a fourth name is being kept under wraps for now - but Vagner Love has been strongly linked in the media. If true, and if they come off, these signings could well be the difference between failing to build on last season’s fantastic fifth place finish, and kicking on and challenging for the Champions League places".
I like a good conspiracy theory... So, is Moyes buying Smith so he doesn?t have to worry about managing him at Newcastle when he leaves to join the barcodes in November?
How many times do we have to be linked with Wagner Love before we can all casually refer to him as WL, or how about Waggy for this one.
Why spend £16M on Vagner Love? I doubt this is true, but even so, he ain?t very good!
I have many Brazilian friends and each time he plays for them they are up in arms. He has done average for CSKA and plays poorly for the worst Brazil team for a very long time. For £16M there are many, many better players.
Actually this would be typical, we go summer without signing anyone, then our major summer signing turns out to be shit but cost £16M becasue he?s Brazilian. If Robinho is worth £20M then Love is worth £0.2M.
Fran, Vagner Love isn't very good, he?s done average for CSKA Moscow?! I don't care if the Russian league isn't the best in the world but 44 goals in 90 + games is good going in any league!!! And it might be the worst Brazil team in years but for him to be picked for the the national team with strikers of the likes of Ronaldinho, Kaka, Robinho and Adriano in the squad and to start alongside any one of those 21 times then he must be quite decent!!!
All of the signing rumors are true! (well... according gto this website they are pretty confident anyway)
http://totalodds.net/Ntransfers_8938384.html
Is it just me, or are the Everton board taking the piss? We bought our season tickets in April and still no new signings. Kenwright only speaks when he is under pressure from the fans; again we are linked with players 6 days before the season starts... We have one of the best young managers in the league and a board that has no ambition. I hope I am wrong but this could be a long season.
Anyone know why we haven?t got Manny Fernandes all wrapped in a blue shirt, either on loan or bought?
I dont think we’ll be signing Fernandes unless theres no chance what so ever of us signing Moutinho! both players are of similair styles and it looks like Moyesy wants Moutinho a head of Manny, to be honest as good as Fernandes is, Moutinho’s all round game is a lot better then Fernandes’s but if Everton dont pull off the Moutinho deal then i’d be happy for us to sign Fernandes as a plan B should Moutinho’s deal not go through!.
Thanks for that Aide. I suppose that I was hoping we’d get the both of them (greedy bugger.) I hope the rumours of him coming for a medical are true.
Listen right, all the frustrations everyone has outlined here are totally fair enough, it is undoubtedlya tricky period for Everton. But, and I don’t mean to sound like a nob or anything, but I think we should all just calm down. Yes I agree this is the most worrying transfer situation in years, probably ever under Moyes, at a time where we really need to push on, but you have to remember lads, Moyes is absolutely fucking class. Look at the shite that was in our team when he took over and look at us now. I’m telling you, whoever it is, however much it costs, we’ll get someone absolutely class, the club is a really attrative proposition these days. This club is characterised by its uniquely devoted fans, the best fans in the world as we all know so come on, yes it’s worrying, yes it’s frustrating, but keep the faith boys. Maybe pass the time by commenting how Liverpool have just spent £20million on Robbie Keane!!! Moyes will see us through lads, we all know that deep down.
I look at it this way... Villa were the closest team below us last year and they’ve bought Shorey, I’d had Lescott, Baines and Valente ahead of him any day. They’ve bought Young - our worst two first team players are Hibbert and Neville, both miles better than him. Sidwell - nowhere near good enough for us. Admittedly, Spurs have brought in a few good players but they’ve paid over the odds for all of them. Portsmouth have signed Crouch! - enough said about that. Arteta’s definitely on for a cracking season, Vaughan will be amazing, Cahill’s back, Yakubu is in better shape than ever - 25/30 goals? And just look at all these young international players publicly stating they want to join Everton. It has been long and drawn out but if anyone knows what to do it’s Moyes, never mind Kenwright, Moyes is in charge and that’s all that matters. Give it a week or so we will all be made up with whoever he gets and we’ll be talking again (like we should be) about how good it’s going to be to beat Liverpool to 4th!
Aide. You know BK does not believe in plan B’s.
