Whats up with our supporters?

I jokingly mentioned to a fellow blue.."bet we dont hit 15,000 for today's game (PSV)". I was being a doom and gloom merchant... or so I thought. The turn out was indeed poor.... anyone got the official figure? Are the fans reacting to the Board, Kirkby being called in, Moyes deliberating on transfers???
Even in times of very poor teams we pull decent gates (I believe the other lot pulled in 40,000 for their friendly)... but not so on Saturday. I mention Kirkby.... and if you all forget which side you are on... I bet we all had the thought... "how come the bastards never call in anyone else.... it had to be us!!".
Anyhow guys, something is not right with the fans.... let's hope its a blip and nothing else. COYB

It was raining.... something about being on live TV? (Setanta?) And then there were no new faces to go and see... Well perhaps Gosling, Rodwell, Baxter.... hardly the new signings everyone was expecting. So well done to the 10,816 who turned out. We salute your dedication to the cause!!!
Quite possible. When I saw the fixture list for 08-09 I thought then we could be top going into the Mersyside Derby. But that was then when I was expecting some quality signings. Now I see the squad (using the term loosely). without the kids we don't even have enough players for a team. I don't know how good they are but I do know Everton's Reserves only won 4 games last season and came next to bottom. If we get an injury crisis we are in BIG BIG trouble. I can imagine we are now going to panic buy. It's such a shame given that we should be building on last season. What a shambles
Just watched the highlights on the O.S. Satisfactory is my overall opinion, apart from the obvious (couple of missing buys) which i think will come in the next week, Timmy back will make a BIG difference, the young lads all looking great for the future. The little spaniard is looking like his old self, Peanut looked good in spurts, and DARE I say it? PIP played well, I mean by that his passing was good. No doubt somebody went to a different game, but I hope you all agree it's looking rosie, sorry should I have said BLUE? I'm looking forward to the coming season, COYB!
I've seen many comments about yesterday's game, both good and bad - but nobody has mentioned Lee's donation to the former player's foundation. Maybe everyone who posted on here decided to go for a pie and a pint at half-time and missed the announcement that Lee gave £5,000 to this wonderful cause. Good luck to you Lee and thanks for your committment both on and off the field.
It’s a friendly, nothing to worry about.
We got around 10,000 for the PSV game, Newcaslte only got around 12,000 I think.
Lee Carsley, I shouldn?t be surprised to hear.
Its typical for a non ’sky 4’ top flight club. We only had a similar attendance for Colin Harvey’s testimonial a few years back.
Most fans save their hard earned for the competitive fixtures. COYB!
Isn’t it pretty fucking obvious why we had a shite turnout; lets be honest guy’s - £16 for adults to attend a friendly with no new signings, live on TV and crap weather?
Once again a demonstration of how poor the club is run from a business sense; they could have dropped the attendance fee for adults to a £5er letting in the kids for free; this would of produced a massive turnout, good atmosphere and huge sales of food and drinks etc!
I own two season tickets for the Park End that cost a me a small fortune each year, I should be getting invited to watch a friendly on home turf for fuck all!
The peoples club - my arse!
Good point in your last paragraph there James Byrne. It's actually very ludicrous on the clubs behalf. Given it's only a friendly and the amount of what you guys pay for season tickets I think the club should allow free admission to all (at least the kids) or on the very cheap. Agree too that its pretty poor form from the club.
Maybe a conspiracy theory thought but perhaps the club feared a protest from the masses hence made it pricey ticket only affair.
Probably not though, more likely to be just poor business sense and further evidence of being out of touch with the broad fan base.... as usual :-(
Slightly off topic, but did anyone else see the highlights of the Barcodes and Valencia? Broke my heart to still see Manny in a Valencia shirt. It looks like he’s making his mark on their team. Anyone think that we have a chance getting him back for a 3rd time?
I think if you read the book Football Grounds of Britian by Simon Inglis you will find that many teams struggled for years to get a new ground. I think of the top of my head Southampton searched for a new site for 40 odd years.
There are also plenty of other clubs too so we are not the only ones. I agree that I think most will wait for the big kick off to attend and hopefully Goodison will be packed this weekend against Blackburn.
Just hope that whatever team we put out that they give 100 percent and that the fans back them 100 per cent as well.
CYOB!
Dont think I’ve ever been to a "friendly".
Football is by its very nature is a competitive game and even calling them "friendly matches" is sort of contradictory.
However, if people choose to go along and enjoy them, fair play to them
The game is getting pricey, a lot of people have stretched themselves to the limit, to buy their season tickets, thousands cant even afford to do that and will have to take their chances of getting a ticket on a match by match basis
Our average league attendance will neither rise nor fall by more than a couple of hundred on the past couple of seasons,
but due to rising costs a lot of people will have to be more selective, dont be surprised if we see very poor turn outs for the cup games
Spurs had 36000 for a friendly this weekend.
I wonder if it had to do with the fact that they have invested millions AGAIN in players??
The 5:15 kick-off time put me off.
My nine year old son is a Spurs fan (he has been to loads of Everton games in London but has never seen them win, and living in Essex it is awash with Spurs/Arsenal etc).
I took him to the Spurs V Roma game yesterday and the difference between that game and our friendly on Saturday was a million miles apart. As Jay said the ground was full, with massive queues to buy Spurs merchandise in at least 3 shops around the ground, they must have made a fortune.
On the pitch they paraded several new signings and moved the ball with pace and precision, the player had the ball always had many options when going forward and they won 5-0 against a team that finished second in Italy and had a good run in the champions league.
Now I hate Spurs, I have to watch them through gritted teeth, but the whole set up was very impressive yesterday, and it got me thinking how far off them we have looked in pre season. Hopefully Moyes can make the necessary signings this week and push the negative thoughts out of my head.
We rarely push 15,000 for our home pre-season game.
I wish about 10,000 fewer had turned up. There is nothing like a lack of bums, on seats to send a message to the board.
Horrendous weather, no pay on the gate, expensive tickets, no new signings, hardly high profile opposition, fans disgruntled over DK etc.
The big kick-off is next week, most can’t afford both. LFC’s big turn-out was due to fielding several new signings, and the fact that they have thousands of fans who can’t normally go who jump on these opportunities to attend.
Man City had less than that for their AC Milan game... stadium totaly deserted!
We have had a poor pre-season and no signings and the Spurs result against Roma and their attendence shows that Spurs are trying to move forward to build on last years cup win and we are (as usual) relying on overachieving again. For as long as I can recall when we get in a good position we don’t build on it but just think that more of the same is fine. That comes from the owners and not the manager. I still feel that David Moyes is too cautious and is an average tactitican but he can’t keep being expected to make do with no new quality signings. Whether we agree or not, a new high profile signing gets fans excited and wanting to see them before the season starts. But hey, there are plenty more days before the transfer deadline.....
The first time I ever took my wife out was to see Dundee Utd in a pre-season friendly in 1970 I think.
I know I’m just an old romantic!
I went to see Luton play Port Vale on Saturday - we think we’ve got problems.
Articles like this are getting us nowhere, making an issue out of something that isn?t there and further contributing to the doom and gloom around the pre-season.
The facts above speak for themselves, we rarely get 15k for this type of game, it was a late kick off and on TV, plus football gets more and more expensive each season ........ I believe we got 12k against Werder Bremen last season, hardly much of a difference
Non issue IMO
Exactly Ian, also we weren’t charged more than the EUFA cup cost for a friendly before.
They probably knew the attendance would be low and thought , "Fook it, lets make as much as we can for now"
I usually go to the home friendlies but as there was no-one new on show and it was on Sultana I thought I would save my £16 instead
