Serious Problems

Comments (29)

So there are now 6 days to the start of the season, and as yet we have signed no-one (not counting Pienaar who we had last year). Not only that but David Moyes has yet to sign his new contract and commit to Everton Football Club, and who can blame him?

If he is to be believed he is going nowhere, and the reason for not signing is his concentration on bringing in new players, now please correct me if I'm wrong, but David if your concentration is on bringing in new players then you are not doing a very good job about it as this season you have brought in ... erm .. none.

Surely, and again correct me if I'm wrong it would take but a second to pick up your nice new contract pick up a pen and sign. This would at least alleviate some of the growing concerns from Everton's staunch fanbase.

What us fans are seeing at the moment are serious problems that are not being helped by (a) the manager's reluctance to bring in players or sign a new contract and (b) a chairman who seems unable to give us any answers apart from "Don't panic."

Unfortunately I would say the majority of Everton fans are panicking and they are panicking more and more each day. It's never easy being an Everton fan, because don't get me wrong I wouldn't support anyone else ever, I am Everton through and through but we always seem to have the inability to push on when the garden seems rosy. A fifth place finish, a good European run last season everything seemed great. We were all looking forward to new signings in the summer and all we have got is this!

I feel as fans we deserve better, we deserve the truth, we deserve much more. It's about time the board told us what really is going on, because until they do Everton FC will continue to have serious problems.

I don’t beleive that ANY manager would be reluctant to bring in new players Ian.

It’s a question of getting who he wants for the money that’s available.
And he’s still waiting to see what money IS available.

I completely understand your concerns ... of course I do. But, I don?t understand your conclusion in the final paragraph. We suspect skulduggery of some description but for the life of me, I can?t see how knowing each unsavoury fact will help anything at all.

This whole business has been reduced to a cartoon. Kenwright stars as Satan?s pimp, with Wyness the now departed Prince of Darkness. Moyes is the heroic martyr, strugling to maintain the integrity of Castle Marvellous against the wicked hosts from Mordor (Kirkby ... you?re starting to follow, right?)
If all the facts did ever become known, and as I say I see no compelling reason to give othe clubs even more scope to exercise their ?humour? at our expense, I doubt they would match the sweet simplicity of that cartoon. Each of the leading characters behaviour and the many motives for that behaviour are likely to be a good deal more complex than good versus evil.

So, we sits and waits. And we waits and we sits. That?s all we can do until critical mass time arrives, if it does.

As a manager, not only do you need to hire the best available, but you also need to provide the tools for the employee to work with. BK has hired a wonderful manager but without providing him the resources (i.e. players in this case) then his ’employee’ can’t do his job properly. And instead of just sitting on his arse and accepting his salary (which I am seeing more and more from lazy bastards each day in my line of work), this ’employee’ is displaying admirable code of ethics in the workplace and demanding the resources so he can do the job - that BK hired him for! Personally I believe they are in unison and pulling in the same direction with Everton, just that money is not falling out of the sky.

Kenwright will take us to the promised land won’t he??

When you take into account all the sales, ie Johnson, McFadden, Carsley and so on, we could be in profit as long as we don't spend over £15 to£ 20 mill. Anything over pays for the bubbly at the shareholders meeting. Sky money does not count. We paying for nothing at EFC. It's going to be a dull season. Keith Wyness must have a good tan over in Spain. He won't speak and I'm not surprised. He is probably thinking not worth the hassle. We should have millions with the Sky money... What is happening???

Fact is we have got well over £20 mil in revenue by transferring AJ and McFadden plus releasing Gardner, Carsley, Fernandez, Wessels etc so their wage bill is saved. We are reduced to a squad of 24 which contains 3 goalkeepers, 4 Africans who will be missing at times, two long term injuries Hibbo and VDM... one just back from injury and not expected to be match fit until September (official EFC) thats Cahill. We now have just Yak and perhaps Vaughan if he is not suspended.... this is a disastrous way to start a new season and there is absolutely no excuse. It's rank bad management. We have even signed a number 2 in Round with even less players than last season... the mind absolutely boggles reading the optimism of some fans They must all have royal blue tinted glasses permanantly fitted, it's like a Laurel & Hardy run club, but they were much funnier.

On a brighter note, I am naively and stupidly going to believe that we are close to signing three players this week which are Vagner Love (will be a good signing), Alan Smith and Stephame M'Bia with still an outside chance of Moutinho but not before Saturday, which I can't work out when he is meant to be transfer target number 1 but never mind.

I know I am stupid to believe the talk that we are close to signing players but surley something has to happen soon or we are in for a special dispensation this season of being the first Schoolboy Premier League team...

Seriously something must happen...

Take a look at The Times website and the Guardian - the Times are reporting that CSKA have accepted our £2.5m loan bid with a view to buying Vagner Love for a further £8m in a years time - not only that but Rennes have alledgedly accepted a £6m bid for Stephane M?Bia who we?ll sign when he comes back from the Olympics.

Alan Smith is on his way for £2-3m depending on who you believe, but I firmly belive he?ll be a great signing - only 27 so should be entering his prime and DM has a canny knack of getting the best out of players - he?s been after him for years now and at that price its a good deal.

The Moutinho thing looks a bit dead & buried but apparently we havent given up on it yet. If we do sign these players, we?ll have a much better squad and everyone can stop whinging!

This ’no player signs’ is becoming something of a transfer deadline ritual at Everton. During the past few years there have been constant reports of ’great deals’ e.g. Robbie Keane and nothing usually until midday August 30th or so. This close season we have been bombarded with Moutinho/M’Bia etc. and still no show! While I rate David Moyes extremely highly and used to feel the same about Bill Kenwright I must admit they are giving the impression of Left Hand not knowing what Right Hand is doing. Perhaps I, and many other Evertonians, will be incredibly surprised and by the end of next week all the pieces of the jigsaw will be in place and the club will set off on another very good season but somehow I doubt it!!

I don’t get this.
What the fuck do you guys want them to do? You’d be moaning if they went out and bought a shit load of seond rate premier league players to make up the numbers, aka every team other than the Sky 4 and Spurs. And like it or not, Spurs are a better proposition than us at the moment.
We all know we are short, but fill with quality first and then quantity. It takes time to get the right players, so give them time.
Then you can all moan about how much more money we are in debt.

It is a disgrace that we have let AJ & Carsely go before having replacements in. Why no new players yet? I suspect that it is down to (I think) that the £42 mil TV money that we get for 07/08 season does not go into the bank until later in the year, meaning we have to borrow on the strength of our tv earnings. Unfortunately DK being called in has fucked this up as the people acting as creditors for the loans ie Green will not santion any more borrowings. Therefore no money & no signings. The money we are going to spend on Smith, Love etc is money we have just recieved from Fulham for AJ. I suspect we will probably now have to hold off until the next transfer window before we can bring in any more players. Its a fucked up situation, but one we must live with until DK is sorted one way or another. IMO I would have kept AJ andf Cars, got Fernadez on another loan and maybe added Smith and another for cover, but hey what the fuck do I know. COYB

The simple fact is the way it looks to the vast majority of supporters is that despite always being in the Premier League and infact being on of the longest serving top flight members Everton Football Club are forever the paupers and it does become depressing when other clubs manage to conduct deals quickly yet at Everton we have the same problem year-in, year-out.

I completely agree that the board and senior management have no idea how to run a club and have a terrible track record in getting deals over the line. However, Tony Part, to say that, "it does become depressing when other clubs manage to conduct deals quickly" suggests to me that you, and many other everton fans look at other clubs with rose tinted glasses. Every summer Spurs get "linked" with all sorts of world class players and they NEVER pull them off. Raul, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Villa, Eto?o and many many more have been pursued by Spurs and they never get near them. We can also say the same for the RS, other than a good signing in Robbie Keane what else have they done? Have you not seen the list of players they tried and failed to sign the last couple of years? And need I do more than just mention the Gareth Barry debacle??? I haven't even started on Portsmouth, Villa and Man City!!

Yes BK cannot run a club, yes Wyness was a disaster, and yes Moyes needs the backing of rich investors AND an executive board with a strong track record of running successful businesses. BUT we are not alone in our suffering, lots of other fans are also struggling with the way their club is being run.

FFS How many times are you lot going to go over and over the same thing.

YES! WE ALL KNOW WE HAVE SIGNED NOBODY!

YES! WE ARE ALL PISSED OFF ABOUT IT!

YES! WE ARE ARE FED UP OK BK SPOUTING ABOUT SIGNING PEOPLE!

YES! WE BLAME MOYES/BK/WYNESS/THE GOVERNMENT AND ANYONE ELSE WE CAN POINT THE FINGER AT!

The facts are that even when we do look to be making a signing, (Smith) the majority of people on here whine about even that.

Why don’t we wait and see what happens and then, if you don’t like it (Which probably most of you won’t) then moan about it then!

I have a feeling that DM will see out his last year at Everton Before taking over from AF at United. Hence the new signing all seem to be on 12 month loan.

One player looks like he?s definitely not coming to goodison this season is Manny Fernandez.

This genuinely looks like a result of feet dragging on our part because Valencia couldn?t wait to get rid not long ago. Could be gamesmanship on Valencias part to get us to hurry up on the deal but more likely like us they?ve realised he?s a pretty good player after all.

Do you really think that Moutinho will arrive ? Is Alan Smth really the answer to our problems of lack of quality in midfield ? Why is everything always happening in 48 hours ? And yet never seems to happen.

On a general point first. There are many postings on this sight that glibly ise the phrase either "all Everton fans" or "most Everton fans", when actually there is no basis for such a statement. I for one speak for myself and often do not agree with statements made under these banners. Anyway that moan over.

Transfers. Firstly from our standard starting 11 from last season we have lost 1 player - Carsley. AJ was mostly a sub and so was McFadden. Manny showed a little more towards the end of the season but was certainly not an automatic first choice. So yes we do need someone to replace Carsley, and a couple more to take the squad up another level and provide quality cover, but lets get it back into perspective. Last season clubs like Spurs, Barcodes, Villa, City and even Blackburn spent freely in the close season but all finished behind us!!

The club obviously is not running as smoothly as I would like, but take a look at Man City (owner on the run), Blackburn (no real new faces and lost star player), Villa (not sure if they will or will not have their star player at start of season), and we are not alone. Lets be clear here the only clubs who go out and get what they want no hassle are the "big boys" ( and yes I am admitting that we are not a big boy in this league) plus Spurs at the moment because they have shed loads of money behind them.

I am confident that new players will arrive and make the team better and the season will reflect further progress, maybe even a final in something.

Only down point in all this is that I do not believe Moyes will sign a new deal as players at Man Utd have been told that he will be the new number 2 their within the next 12 months ( and no, I am not prepared to name names on this forum).
