Pienaar out. Worse it gets!!

Comments (85)

Picture the scene. Full of optimism I turn on Sky Sports news and I spot a breaking news bar along the bottom of the screen. for a split second I thought maybe we've signed someone. Low and behold the word Everton came along.... HEART RACING...followed by the news that Pienaar is out for at least 6 weeks (3months more like).

I also see Everton are trying to get people to buy tickets for the match on Saturday by giving them a chance to be forst dibs on derby tickets. Whats next? Buy 1 get 1 free? It's a sad time I fear. Time to batten down the hatches and get ready for a long frustrating season.

I do believe its just about now that David Moyes comes out and says that he expects big things from Tony Hibbert and England call ups for an in form Leon Osman this year. More PR nonsense. The thought of watching Osman getting thrown around, miscontrolling and giving the ball away 20 times a game annoys me. I can't see his worth anymore, If we sold him he would go to Derby or Wolves. Championship Player at best.

I am always positive and usually feel that there is something behind the scenes and on the horizon. But I dont feel there is. Alan Smith doesnt excite me, although he is a trier I always thought he was the dirtiest player I seen playing the modern game, Vagner Love got his name cause he bedded so many birds as a youth player in Brazil so he headed away to the footballing heady heights of Moscow and Stephane M'Bia I know nothing about, Heard nothing about should I say.

I dont expect miracles but I expect something to look forward to, something to cling what little hope there is left to. At least I can look forward to Spurs disappointing again this season.

Looks like Pieneer has broken a bone in his foot and is out for 6 weeks. Lucky we've got a massive squad and lots of cover.

Will we have a team come Saturday. Can anyone tell me who will play in midfield and up front. We are heading for a big dive this season. The size of this squad cannot sustain an injury crisis. We will struggle big time if we don't get players in.

Not sure how accurate but it's just flashed up on Sky sports that Pienaar's out for at least six weeks. Think I've missed out on too much pre-season to of any help to DM myself. After all the doom over the last few weeks it's all we need. Looks like it's going to be an interesting start to the season lads!

Seems only Arteta and Osman are fit. Guess it will be a 4-4-2 on sat with Neville in midfield and Jags at RB. Even if we buy tomorrow DM won't chuck a new recruit in, will he? Not a good start!

Just heard that Pienaar could be out for 6 weeks with a broken metatarsal. This could mean a top ten finish would be hard to come by with what two established midfielders and nobody in yet?

Any new players will have to be thrown in, simple as. I doubt we?ll sign anyone this week though.

Baines on the wing I think, Jags in midfield and Osman playing as a second striker, awful awful news.

What with the breaking news about Pienaar... surely we have to look to getting in our main targets quickly.. Moutinho, M'Bia etc..

But as for getting much needed 'bodies' in who are experienced in the Premier League. How about turning our attentions to a short term contract deal (with a view to make an extended deal) for Freddie Ljungberg?

He’s not the best player in the world but he’s far from a Championship player.

Well said Connor, calling Osman a Championship player? You ought to be ashamed, I’ve heard many a Kopite say the same thing. He’s a cracking little player, he’s got a class touch and has scored a fair few good goals for everton.
Get behind the Blues, whatever happens, we’ll definitely beat Blackburn, definitely. Let’s look at the positives, at least this Pienaar injury is going to force the issue. We definitely can’t go on like this, Moyes will know that, so let’s just wait and see what happens. We have money and a brilliant manager, you just wait my friend, good times are ahead.

No mention of it on the OS. There is a story about Jose Baxter saying he is ready to step up. Bloody better be he and all the other "promising youngsters". The only positve is I keep hearing Alan Hansen in my head saying "you win nothing with kids" and it’s 1995 and Man Utd just lost 3-1 to Villa ...and 10 months later the kids win the league. Dream on.

Just been speaking to my mate who works in France and apparently M?Bia is all over the news that Rennes have rejected a £9 million bid from Lyon? No talk whatsoever regarding Everton, also he is over at the Olympics therefore not available to sign anyway. Alan Smith is back in training with Toon and Keegan doesn't want to sell, Mountinho deal is dead as they are waiting for £20 million. Things are desparate, Fernandes wants to play in Spain this year, waiting for a statement from Neville in the papers saying that the youngsters are ready, he is Mick Lyons reborn.

New signings? We?ve had wool pulled over eyes time and time again. If we really wanted Moutinho, I am sure we would pay what Sporting wants, instead of mucking around like what we?ve done..... don?t be surprised if he signs for Arsenal tomorrow....

If this is true, no report from the Club yet (not that it counts for much these days!), then the likely line-up for our opening game of the season (when we are meant to be at our strongest!) will look like;

Howard
Jagielka Yobo Lescott Valente
Neville
Arteta Rodwell Osman Baines
Yakubu

With the bench looking like
Ruddy
Baxter
Molyneux
Kissock
Gosling
Wallace
Jutkiewicz

Only change may be Vaughan if not suspended so we can play 4-4-2 with Neville moving to centre mid in place of Rodwell.

Incredible to think that if we do sign Smith he is likely to be an automatic starter! Who?d have picked that 3 months ago?

What's really disapointing though is the fact that if you look at our opening fixtures we could have got off to a great start and actually be one of the early leaders, now I?m just hoping we can actually field a team. Paradise lost anyone?

PS Can we still register Steve Round as a player?

The lack of players even cost us in our friendlies. I have my cousin who is an ace player. I really think when he comes out of his rehab Everton snap him up. He is better than that Smith bloke...

Pah... No need to panic just yet people. Don’t see us needing people that desperately for the 1st 2 weeks of the season.

Blackburn are all over the shop at the moment, no faith in Ince and his League 2-level assistant, their captain’s off at the Olympics with the Kiwi’s, they have sold their most likely source of creativity and one of the most underrated keepers ever and are looking to sell off Warnock and perhaps Santa Cruz by the weekend.

We’re likely to be played against a team of;

Robinson,
Emerton,
Samba,
Ooijer,
Olsson,
Vogel,
Reid,
Pedersen,
Villaneuva,
McCarthy,
Roberts.

All of this negativity is going to get the club nowhere. Christ?s sake - do you think any players would want to join the club given the crap that?s posted on here? My old man says that our negativity is an embarassment - not even City, Blackburn or Boro fans are harping like we are and they?re all in far worse states than we are. We need to get behind the lads on Saturday with a full house - especially given that the likes of Baxter and Rodwell might be in line for a debut.

Experienced teams struggle with the fans turning on the club but what is an inexperienced side likely to do? Capitulate to a side like Blackburn in all likelihood (and let's not forget that their pre-season has been FAR worse than ours - manager gone, replaced with a league 2 boss, best player sold and an untried Chiliean for £3 million as his replacement and unrest with their remaining squad).

Let?s get behind the lads and hopefully the board will do their bit in the coming weeks. Side for Saturday that can beat Blackburn:

Howard, Jags, Yobo, Lescott, Baines, Neville, Rodwell, Osman, Arteta, Yakubu, Vaughan (or Baxter)(

And don?t even get me started on that nonsense about Osman being a Championship player...

Its like mutiny on here now. We are at each others throats about the club. Someone says something and then its shot down and the word Kopite comes out. And the men in charge dont give a toss I bet. We are not doom merchants we are realists. At the end of last season Moyes said he had one of the smallest squads in the league and needed to strengthen. 4-5 out and 0 in. Thats strengthening alright.
The rumours about him falling out with BK about the lack of professionalism and failure to sign players is looking right, He will be off to Man Utd as assistant before October. I bet you.

Reg, I can’t believe that even though there’s so much blame being thrown around on this site, you’ve managed to lay some on poor old Victor.

What the hell can he do about the club’s transfer policy? He was given leave to go to the Olympics months ago, and rightfully jumped at the chance to represent his country in the world’s greatest sporting event. Obviously he knew he might miss the first couple of games of the season - but given that at the time he was clearly fourth choice striker in a team which normally only uses one, I think it was reasonable of him to assume we would cope without him for a fortnight?

You’re the one who should be ashamed.

I just cant understand why Everton F.C cannot do anything right.
If we go into the season with that squad then we are asking for some major problems along the way and once the window closes there is little we can do to rectify it.
We can blame bad luck on Pienaar’s injury as it is bad luck for him but the situation Everton find themselves in is no-ones fault other then their own, we have had all summer to add to the squad and replace the players who left the squad early in the close season,no excuses for it.

Moyes is either in on the lies or has been fed the same bullshit as the rest of us. Personally I believe that he is waiting to sign his contract to see if the transfer kitty he has been told is there, is actually there. If not then I'm afraid come the first of September we will need a new manager as well as up to 8 players. If BK does not come through this time I really think DM will walk and who could blame him. Normally I'm excited for the start of new season but this year I am full of dread. We have the smallest squad in the league and a lot of those are young prospects.

Now I'm not a BK hater, he has done all he can with the funds he has. But can he seriously expects us to believe that there is know one who wants to invest in the club. Liverpool, Newcastle, Man City, Sunderland and Villa are just a few of the clubs that have been taken over in the recent past. Why them and not us? Is the club in that much debt that nobody is willing to take it on ?(barcodes £165m debt) Is BK wanting to continue to have a say in the running of the club ? Two clubs in one city ?( Man City) Or do we need the big 50,000 seater stadium to attract investors?

One more query, Why go into partnership with Tesco when the government clearly seem to have a big problem with them? Calling it in was inevitable.

Hope I?m wrong but looks like a long hard season ahead of us.

Why have I paid 400 odd quid for a season ticket to watch the youth team? It’s no wonder they do that early bird offer so you get fooled into buying one early on and don’t wait for the signings over the summer before buying one. We really couldn’t be much more doomed! Osman and Arteta is the midfield going into the season, I can’t begin to imagine in a few months if we get more injuries. I’m dreading the derby this year more than ever!

Alan - that was a classic
just made me laugh out loud in a quiet office. Jesus it is a joke though. Its embarassing. Remember a few years ago Martyn, Kilbane and a heap of players signed on the last day. It's all we can hope for now. Come back Pistone, all is forgiven

I just hope Moyes signs some players before the end of the transfer window or we can all wave goodbye to the likes Lescott and Arteta, because do you honestly think they are prepared to waste their career at a team playing alongside youth players week in week out when they could play alongside world class players? I’d never forgive Moyes or Kenwright if we sign no-one!

We are a joke don’t think anyone will be signed Moyes won’t sign his contract or he would of by now its just so frustrating i wish i could just switch off & not care but we all do. I don’t think the Rooney summer was this bad because we did’nt have any expectation that close season but to get so close last season only to be undone by a lack of numbers & a few dodgy decisions we should of been kicking on lets just hope we get a good start Saturday or i think the knives may come out for Moyes aswell.

I cant beleive we are in this situation. For months it has been the same, all talk and no action. Another point, how do the echo seem to know so much? they tell us on daily basis that Smith, Love, M'Bia etc are all coming in shortly, i.e within 48 hrs.... But then the time passes and nothing at all concrete on the EC site. I will believe it when I see it....

I’m driving up from London on Saturday morning, taking my Mrs to Goodison for the first time too. Dunno if I can be arsed now, not sure if I can take the embarrassment and trying to justify to her why this is the club I’ve supported since I was 5, she’ll think I’m a mentalist. Seriously though, I think this’ll be a piss poor game with an atmosphere to match. Both teams seem to be down to the bare arse and lacking in confidence. I await a game of hoof ball, stray passes and limited chances for both.

Agree 100% with you Anthony, Moyes is getting away with any criticism whatsoever, he is the man who identifies transfer targets and dictates our tactics not Kenwright. The manager is as guilty as anyone for the situation we find ourselves in. Don't come on and give me this bullshit about his hands being tied regarding transfers, his hands havent been tied about signing his own contract either. Why hasn't he walked away if he was that unhappy? He has chosen not to strenghten the squad, Now with his shameless disregard for the fans of this once great club we go into the season as pessimistic as I have ever known.

Come on Moyes come out and publicly reveal why you have hardly spoke to the press or the fans since the end of last season, and why no new signings (including your own) have not been made with only 4 days before our first game. I know Kenwright is ultimately responsible for the club, but I also think Dithering Dave should shoulder some of the blame and responsibility of this fiasco we find ourselves in.

Steve Ashton, your obviously deluded, if you think we haven’t got a relegation battle. two midfielders going into the season and a bunch of kids. Moyes will walk if no signings come in. Anymore injuries and we’ll be fucked even more.

That’s what the Leeds fans used to say: ’where to good to go down’.

If we had a fully fit squad i think we’ll be o.k. But that isn’t the case.

Patty,

I?m not dreading the derby one bit. You need 11 players who are proud to wear the blue shirt and you've got a chance, by then we will have enough players, and btw you will definately regret it if you're not there on Saturday.

I'm fucking sick the way it?s gone so far but im not going to miss games because of it, Why? Because our club is in the shit and we need to get down to Goodison and give these kids who will no doubt be playing a proper Goodison roar, who knows it may be enough to lift the them (whoever plays) and get us a result.

I remember laughing at Chelsea?s shit support in the Carling Cup, if we all stop going the game we?ll be a laughing stock ourselves.

The people who have got us into this shitty situation will have to answer for themselves at the EGM!!!

Steve Cavanagh. Why do you say that there are loads of kopites on here. Surely we have the right to get upset by the shite thats been going on during the summer. We should be negative because our club hasnt been anything other than negative during the summer. We are fans so we get upset and demand better. I for one expect better even if you dont

Someone mentioned earlier that Moyes is getting slack for no good reason, we read months ago that he gave two lists to Bill, the A list and the B list so to speak.

His targets were identified and Bill’s pathetic interview last week revealed that he has been shown the "targets" by DVD.

Moyes knows who he wants and so does Bill but nothing has been done about it. I can see Moyes doing one soon and who can blame him. This pre-season is the worst in all my days since I started supporting Everton

So when are the club going to realise this is a major crisis? I’m fuming - this was the summer that we were going to build to break into the top four - it should the the main ambition from the base we’re starting at. Its pathetic yet where’s the urgency to get even someone in on short term loan to help us out?

Baines, Jagielka and Rodwell will start in midfield on Saturday - we concede first how are we going to get back into the game? We could set the club back four years through rank bad management this summer. What a shambles.

You are correct Moyes gave the board an A and B list before the end of last season and imo WE SHOULD ATTACH NO BLAME TO MOYES for this fiasco.

Bill then forgot to inform him that there’s no plan B at EFC and we couldnt afford plan A.

Chief Exec then informs DM, 1 month before the season starts, DM blows a gasket and gives CE a vote of no confidence, enter the ringmaster,CE departs , smoke and mirrors act comes into play but hey just "Watch this space".

He will come out in a couple of weeks and say "space" meant the area of the pitch where we have no players.

I think the number of contributions to this thread suggest that most Evertonians have reached breaking point with regards to new signings. And why not?
This truly is a shambles, scrambling for players just days before the start of the season. The prospect of fielding untried youngsters. Our midfield will be simply consist of whoever is fit, and could well include the likes of Neville and Baines (I thought they were defenders). What happens if we suffer a couple of injuries on Saturday?
And before anyone suggests calm and points to the end of August transfer deadline. Sorry - not good enough, other clubs can sign players in advance why can’t we?
Last year we finished 5th and with the right quality added the team would have been ready to challenge for 4th. Now months later and we’re struggling to pick 11 players. What has happened?

I Came onto the site to see if there were any developments in the signing of our reinforcements and I can’t believe what I’m reading. Have I missed something - yesterday we were all waiting with baited breath for the imminent announcement of the signing of three International players and Smith from Newcastle.

I have never in all the years of following the blue’s known anything like it. Were is all the bullshit coming from, the Echo, the Club or just wishful fans. One things for sure none of us have any idea of what’s going on, I only hope the Moysey and BK get their acts together and give the most loyal support in the land something to get excited about
