'Round backs Everton youngsters'
Comments (42)
I've tried to stay positive throughout the summer but after Peanut's foot this morning and the doom mongers coming out in force on other threads it seems that a spirit of cynicism has fallen over even me.
I read the above headline on the BBC web site and got the drift from the article that this is the start of the 'we've got such a great crop of youngsters that it won't be the end of the world if we don't sign anyone' campaign.
OK he does trot out that well worn platitude 'the chairman and the manager.......................' but the gist is how good the kids are.
Oh God help me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oddly I was just reading the exact same article and coulnt help thinking that it was simply Round saying ’this is what we have’. Definately a load of flannel if you ask me - making out like our kids are good enough because we aren’t going to have anyone in between now & the start of the season. We have about 2 weeks to buy at the very least, 3 top quality players and i really now can’t see that happening. We’ve had 3 months and havent managed it so whats going to change now?!
24 hours ago I was in a good mood reading the echo beleiving we would sign Love and Smith followed by M’bia and more later on in the month. Today, this now seems more unlikely and to make things worse another key player is out for a lengthly peroid. Why do the club let fans like myself get our hopes up and not come out and make comments on any speculation?
I have also just looked through the squad profiles on the official site and think this is the team Moyes will go with.
Howard
Yobo
Jagielka
Lescott
Valente
Osman
Rodwell
Neville
Arteta
Baines
Yakubu
I have b=never been more frustrated about my beloved club in my life, we put ourselves through it every season. We have finished top of the premiership take away the top four, in the uefa cup.
So surely we would move forward? I cant believe how backward we have gone, we are a joke, the most worrying thing for me is Moyes silence throughout. I was hoping to look forward to saturday, the first game, new season, new hope, I wish....
Good article in the times http://timesonline.typepad.com/fanzine_fanzone/2008/08/moyes-the-trape.html
sums it up and bigs up a couple of websites we know.
Everyone is right, Everton FC seems to have some kind of drama going on every year. After the Pienaar news, im deffo fed up and wish the season wasnt starting on sat. im not even sure about Round, if u look at his the teams he’s been at, they havent exactly done great M’boro, England, Newcastle.
Doomed, doomed, we are doomed. If any tries to tell me any different, i will blow a gasket. I’ve stayed patient.
IT’S OFFICIALLY TIME TO PANIC!!!
I?m going to have a massive childish tantrum if things don't improve soon - I can already feel myself getting tetchy with the wife, and arsey around the office; where will it all end I ask you?
Pienaar braking his bloody toe really hasn't helped my mood - everyday I hope we?ll sign someone, that someone will come and save us from the big nasty Premier League season that's coiled up ready to pounce on us - sadly it ain't gonna happen now and I?m going to lose it soon along with the rest of you.
It's a surprise that Tony Marsh hasn't been on here so much lately though, all the ammunition he needs is fully loaded up and ready to fire!
It's not the youngsters I worry about, it's the senior players who fill me with dread. For years now I have slated Leon Osman and rightly so. If ever 30 seconds in a game could encapsulate all that is wrong with a player then it happened on Saturday to Osman.
Osman gets dispossessed in the middle of the park and all he can offer is a little wave of his tiny leg as a token gesture of a tackle. A five-year-old ballerina would've done better. 20 seconds later, Osman is the man covering the eventual goalscorer for PSV, who walks straight through Leon as if he wasn't there. Osman ends up on his arse again looking like a bullied schoolboy. If this is all he can offer then we are fooked with him as a midfield playmaker. Osman isn't even Championship quality yets first choice for us. WTF.
O.K. People do get injured, what gets me is the lies that are being told to us by the management. (1) The budgets in place, (2) Dont worry we have the money for new players, etc.etc.etc. It goes on,on,on. 3/4 major players gone, none come in, lying bastards all of them, but mostly Black Bill and Darling Dave. Thats me, no more hard earned money going to that fucking lot, GOODBYE!!!
Tony Marsh, I think your criticism of Ossie is a little harsh.
I’m not saying he should be in the 1st choice 11.....but I think he is adequate squad material.
But he’s the type of player that needs good players around him in order to perform to his true potential. That’s not unusual - there are many players like that.
At the moment we’ve got no skeleton or presence to the midfield....it’s just a case of whoever is fit/available to play there (eg. Jags/Rodwell/Neville filling the gaps). So it’s not surprising that with a makeshift midfield they won’t know eachother’s exact roles and so perhaps can’t perform their own duties to the max.
I think in a more settled/balanced midfield you’re likely to see Ossie perform better.
Yes, I would rather see Ossie on the bench, but let’s face it - he is not the root of the problem. We’re all aware of the disgraceful lack of signings and until we get more bodies brought in things aren’t going to change.
Ask Simon Skinner: he will tell you why we have no new players...
how can spurs attract these players and we cant? how come they are financially superior to us when we have finished higher than them in the league? everton should be pushing the boat out to make the team successful and make the fans who follow them everywhere proud.
Instead they have watched clubs like spurs, villa, portsmouth pull away from us.
The ambition of the club needs questioning
Marshy,
You are being more than a little harsh on Leon Osman. I personally think he is a cracking little player and is worth a place in our side without question.
Yes, he can be brushed off the ball but his first touch is second to none within our squad and he has an eye for both a pass and a goal. Some of the football we played in the middle of last season when he linked up with Arteta and Pienaar was a joy to behold.
Cheers Kenwright.
As a result of your imcompetance in the transfer market.
The fans are down.
The players are down.
The manager is down.
We will be involved in a relegation battle if we don’t sign a minimum of 5 players.
Lets go and snatch Alonso from the shite. Just the type of box to box player we need, they are desperate for the money for Barry, I,d have him.
Tony, I agree with much of what you say in reflecting the general mood of pessimism, but you really stretch credibility with your attack on Ossie. He’s a cracking player - yes, occasionally lightweight - with great touch, energy and he scores goals. He’s not supposed to be Lee Carsley! We have plenty of bloody problems without trying to invent some more.
Always thought we didn't have room for both Osman and Peanuts in the first XI as it made us lightweight...
So perhaps the injury to Peanuts is a blessing in disguise...
£6m for Baines is also good business, so I say sell sell sell....!!
We only needed 15 players in 1985 don't forget!!!
Ok we have had more than our fair share of injuries but to allow the club to get in this situation, when we were told we would be now pushing on to the next level, is pure mismanagement by the Everton board. They should hang their heads in shame. Once again the club has gone backwards. The season ended in May its now 12 August and not one new player. I do not believe we will buy anyone of any note simply because we don’t have the finances.
If we had the finances we would have been buying earlier in pre season.
I feel I have been duped into renewing my season ticket.
Shame on you BK. Go and hang your head in shame.
It is pretty depressing stuff when you can’t even be arsed to disagree with Tony Marsh
The irony is that, given our opening fixtures feature the three newly promoted sides, we could do with a couple of Championship-style warhorses to get in the mix with them. We invariably drop points to ?new boys? and even with Skippy and Vic back we look too fragile. I can see a long(er) injury list by the time we meet the RS. No chance of getting Carsley back on loan, I suppose... I?ll get me coat...
I think that we will sign someone before the PL starts if not more you all just need to stop being so negative bout it. it will get better I hope.
Greg wins comment of the day! And your prize is........to start in central midfield against Blackburn on Saturday!
I have been catagorically assured today that the impasse over cashflow will be over by Friday of this week. We can then expect at least half-a-dozen signings by the deadline although at least two will be loans. Just hold your nerve ? all of you!

Throw the young ones in and let’s get behind our team and blitz Blackburn! If they’re good enough they’re old enough and with a bit of encouragement and support they can run rings round half of these over paid muppets inthe premier.
So Richard, sounds like this money is ?ring-fenced?.
PHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!!!!
Wait a min.................
Oh well that IS a relief. Well done Richard.
And ?categorically assured? as well you say?
Brilliant news. I?m made up.
But then again... hang on a sec.... this reassurance.... it wasn?t by someone at the Club was it??!
Richard’s right on the mark:
"Watch this space"
Where have I heard that before?
Maybe we have signed 4 - 5 players, its just the best kept secret ever, luring opposition managers into a false sense of security....
...is that a pig I see flying past my window
Ha ha, it’s Blackburn so I’ll need some new shinnies!
Doddy by any chance does that coincide with the Sky money clearing for this season? If it does then does that mean BK is a lying bastard (again?) Where has the money been for the last three months with Billy Bullshitter claiming it was there all along? Come on Doddy dial Black Bill and get it on tape give us all a laugh.
"We can then expect at least half-a-dozen signings by the deadline although at least two will be loans."
That’s about right, I’ve a source that has verified that these 6 extra players will in fact be the people who didn’t make it as Joseph on "Any dream will do..."
Hourly searches, 24/7 investment, signed contracts, FSF, Kings Dock, Kirkby, white rabbits, don’t ask me, I’m just a fan!...Trevor Birch was right: bloody impossible....
Who’s your source Richard, its not the now infamous football guru Mr Good Authority (of ’I have it on good authority’ fame).
I genuinely believe we should start naming and shaming the rumour mongers on the site on the flip side people who correctly predict can have their name in lights as some sort of toffeeweb Mystic Meg.
Or I guess I could just ignore the rumours, but it does get my goat...oh well
Just read on NSNO that those lucky enough to get to the game on Saturday are gonna take their boots. Kind of humerous yet pointed protest at the lack of signings. I can just imagine MOTD showing 30,000 Blues holding up their Nikes prior to kickoff (I?d have to wait ?til the last sodding game of the night though).
I am shit with both feet.... this makes me marginally better than Phil who is shit with his right-foot and atrocious with his left.
Currently searching for my old boots. Unlike all the doomsayers on this site, I am readying myself to fall unto the breach, dear friends, and give all for the cause this coming Saturday...so no 7-2-1 formation should be necessary. I am somewhat of an all-rounder, so the club should feel free to consider me as 3 - 4 signings, so no need for Round to raid the Everton nursery school.
As an unintended bonus, my old stylie boots will offer adequate protection to my metatarsals...so no worries there.
Richard
Have you got your own website cos it?d save me hours trawling the net, I wish people would fuck off with stupid rumours that have got no truth or base whatsoever.
On the protest note me an my boots will be at goodison saturday!!!!!
P.S I dont rate Osman at all. He is IMO a glorified cross-country runner.
When I played amateur football we got fined by the league for not having a full squad of players!
Even if we did sign 6 players by transfer deadline as Richard Dodd suggests we might have dropped vital points by then.
Our preparation this pre-season has been a joke and I’m not laughing.
Please dont join that stupid ’boots’ protest..we look foolish enough without having us on TV or in the national press getting laughed at even more by the fans of every club. I dont believe we have no finance for players and I wish people who dont really know would stop giving BK excuses for rank bad management. We have gained at least £20 mil for the sales of McFadden and AJ plus the huge savings on wages by releasing all the loan players. We have a backroom staff which is nearly as large as the squad of players we have available..DONT let them off the hook by swallowing the ’no money’ excuse..if Wigan, sunderland and Stoke can buy players then we can..Villa had a squad as small as ours last season but they have backed the manager and brought in solid defenders..they already have a decent attack..plus Barry is still with them and if he gets transferred for £18 mil then that will be the best bit of business this season..he’s reasonably good, but no world class player....we are the tightest and slowest movers in the whole of the division...we could have had Arshevin long ago for much less than he will fetch today...no ambition or foresight is to be found at EFC so long as the present board is in place..we are back to the old days of trying to achieve 40 points to stay up !!
I am really annoyed at the lack of signings to the point where I dont even wanna watch the Blackburn game.
Defo everyone should take there boots, we may find where on the bench or even starting eleven when we get there.
Everton aint getting another penny from me until signings are seen.
I thought we had money from selling AJ - that’s at least 10 million there to spend. Now go and fucking spend it Moyes, you ginger cretin. Moyes’ refusal to sign a contract this summer has definitely undermined the club and added to the state of panic.
IF and a big IF, there was 30 million to spend, surely giving it to an attack minded manager would be far more beneficial. Everyone keeps crying out for this Carsley replacement. Carsley epitomised everything wrong with the way Everton play under Moyes i.e playing with an extra defender. Carsley had absolutely NO ability on the ball. This meant we were sound in defence but utter crap when trying to build an attack through the middle thus encouraging the hoofball.
Our priority this summer should not be to replace Carsley but to buy at least 2 attacking midfielders and another striker so we can actually start playing to win games.
Richard Dodd, I'm gonna put my neck on the line and call you a bullshitter mate. You a liar and your getting everyone else hopes up. If im proved wrong by saturday ill apologise. You have 3 days mate and counting!!!
Here, here, Alan Bond. We could stick you upfront at the weekend. you just need someone to provide with good assists mate!!
Alan Clarke...
Totally agree that the ginger nob jocky has magnified the situation, as who in the right mind would committ himslef to sign for a manager who is likely to scarper....
Either sign it or fuck off Dave... nobody is bigger than our club.
Big Ron... will you answer the call...!!
Failing that Slaven Billic would take us up that notch...
Moyes Out.
If that’s the best Steve Round can give us bloody hell sack him. Wait, sell him.
